    On swapping equipment:
    1. Order the ship you want the equipment on to take off.
    2. Immediately Pause.
    3. Select the fleet staying landed and sell the equipment you want to move. Return to the map.
    4. Select the fleet taking off and buy the equipment you want on it.

    When you're in the ammo buying area, there is a little tab at the bottom that you can mouse over. It shows all of the ammo types you currently have, including what you pick up from crash sites.
    Crucially, you can click on an ammo type to sell it, you probably have 6-7k gold worth of unusable ammo (e.g. 320mm incendiary) in your inventory.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I used this a lot in my last campaign towards the end to recover a lot of ammo. I am trying to stockpile 130mm, so it might be weird that I am not doing it as much in this playthrough.

    If you can't land without having two landing legs, you can try to repair only the amount needed to add the legs and then land the ship for the rest of the repairing.

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's awkward with the way the game prioritizes repairing, usually I am in too much of a rush to focus on this but it is worth doing.

    I've finally caught up :) Love seeing your attempt at hard difficulty. I will keep my fingers crossed for a successful ending.
    VVV Just few hints regarding ELINT as I've done some extensive testing VVV
    First of all, even though the max range is 1500km on the bigger sensor the detection relies on the radar range that you are facing. The game simplifies this rather complicated topic to a simple fact that the detection is basically a double that of the radar range (to account for the radar beam strength needing to be high enough to be able to return to the dish). This means that if we assume that you are facing a fleet with radar range of 500km it will come into your ELINT 1 range when the enemy crosses the line of 1000km. From then onwards you can divide the radar range into 5 even sections (100km for MR-500) and each increase in ELINT will give you rough approximation on the range to target with danger close being within 600 kilometres (this gives you a little wiggle room to escape without being detected). It is worth to note that, at least on normal difficulty, when you are landed ELINT never goes above 4 since there is no way for the enemy to detect you, unless they switch to ground sweep. There is a lot of caveat to this as the radar signature of your ships and imperfect placing of radar dishes on some of the enemy ships will also affect those.
    This gives few interesting possibilities. First, knowing the ELINT detection strength and the direction (which is a 30 degrees cone from the highlighted heading) you can approximate where the strike group is located. Closer they are the smaller the search box is. You can add another ELINT ship to the mix in a separate group to do the same and further narrow the signal position (triangulation).
    There is also a cheeky manoeuvre that can further help. if you move your ship to the 90 degrees left or right of the signal and observe the compass headings very carefully, for the change of the signal direction cone, you can instantly know exact heading. For example, if the signal changes from 30 to 60 degrees you can be absolutely certain that the SG is on the heading of 45 degrees at that moment (15 degrees to the right from 30 and 15 degrees to the left of 60).
    Hope this helps a little :) Good luck commander!

    Landing is the most dangerous part of the game in my opinion. Any side to side force can snap a landing strut and then the ship crunches an underside engine, and then the fuel goes off, it's a nightmare.
    Love the game, love the content.

      @@Phrosphor What I find funny, if a bit tragic, is that it seems like an unavoidable part of any high fleet playthrough. We all "teeter" just a little bit to the side or the craft starts listing uncontrollably in one direction or another. Everyone who plays the game gets that little increased heart rate as they approach the landing pad, eyes flickering rapidly between the ship itself and the little speed and altitude indicators.
      I love it as a part of the game, a source of amusement where I can't help but watch on in horror asking myself "alright, how is this about to go wrong?"
      I do find it a bit frustrating that you don't know if you "got the landing bonus" until the player get past the option to retry. Sometimes I get close to landing and just bump a wall a bit and lose an engine or some superstructure and then a leg snaps in half or something. I say to myself "it's okay, I got a huge repair time bonus which will offset that" and then I realize... oh wait... I don't have the bonus and now if I take off and land again I'm already too damaged to succeed, I'll just explode or something. Heartbreaking!🤣

    Wow there were plenty of intense moments in this episode :D
    About the strike fleet: I think they went from Shubath straight to Kiriath. Something must have triggered that Elint danger close alarm when your fleet was there...
    Also I think it would be a good strategy to always fuel your ships to the max by default. Not having any fuel available just takes options away if something unexpected happens.
    Also I'd vote for not bringing support ships into battle. If you loose the fight, just land them in the desert somewhere and pick them up later. As long as there's no strike fleet with ground radar around they'll be quite safe as opposed to being lost in a failed assault...
    Now I'm really looking forward to the next episode :D

    Hey. I love Your HighFleet content. I played (and finished) normal campaign after watching few episodes of Yours Vanilla playthrough. Then I started in Hard mode and failed miserably. Then started to watch Your Hard campaign, learned few things, and now I'm almost finished (last strategic missiles fleet to be destroyed) thanks to You :). I followed Your idea with tiny courier ship, but I also equipped it with big ELINT scanner and had it three in my HARD campaign. IT IS WORTH IT. They are life savers, and they can easily be used to pinpoint Strike Fleets, when used in pairs.
    Anyway...
    Just a tip for this episode:
    When Your ship has destroyed landing legs, sometimes it is worth to repair just the legs (and missing engines) in the air, just to land safely. This is what I usually do...
    Best Regards and please keep up the good work. Love Your content.

    Hey I just recently finished your vanilla playthrough and got caught up with the new hardmode one and your stuff is fantastic, please keep it coming. It's such a unique and interesting game and there are so few people making any content around it. That said if you're looking for something else to break it up with I noticed you had some Starsector videos from a few years ago. Not sure if you've kept up on the game but it's come a really long way in the last few years, as has the modding community for it. The Nexerelin mod particularly turns it into a full on 4X game where there is territorial push and pull between factions and competition for key resources. Might be worth a glance. Shadow Empire is another good one that has some very similar themes to Highfleet (though it is much more of a 4X) and perfectly fits your description of "weird wargamey simulation stuff".

    Heya! Loving the Highfleet content. It's such a fun tense game!
    Say, I noticed that when you're making a quick fuel stop you're not repairing your damaged ships while you fuel. If you're going to be fueling for 2 hours, why not do 2 hours worth of repairs anyway?
    A very gentle recommendation, please feel free to disregard if it cramps your style: Mounting bombs you don't intend to use so you can get 20s more shooting time feels like exploiting iffy game design, and pulls me out of the vibe you got going. If you're gonna mount bombs, drop em! I also think you'll fall in love with two bombs on each attack ship. They do ridiculous damage and you get to add a sweet little bombing minigame. ;)

    • @Phrosphor
      @Phrosphor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am pushing myself to use the bombs now that I have them, as they are a lot of damage for a very low price. I was already feeling bad about using them as it was so I am going to step away from just exploiting with them.
      As for the repairs while refueling - I feel like the repair timers in Hardmode are so long and the prices so high I don't want to leave myself in a situation where I am stuck waiting for something to finish, I just want to go - especially as towns turn dangerous so quickly.

It's the best kind of Russian janky-ass genre mashup. I wish they'd expand on this - I'd love to have a purely strategic and tactical airship combat game set in this universe. The aerial dogfighting in Highfleet is fun but it gets a bit wearing near the end when you're staring down yet another 10 ship garrison north of Khiva.

    Why don't you use your planes to scout the Elint signal?
    Planes do not alert the enemy if they don't engage, the worst that could happen is they send in AA interceptors if it's a carrier fleet

      @@Phrosphor Oooh, that's nice to hear that my tip will come in! Thanks man!. Yeah, i always use the planes just to shadow the transport fleets so i don't lose contact with them, and send my skylark in once i'm in range, while at the same time usually finishing off any escorts with planes and bombs
      since, for some goddamn reason - planes with bombs are more accurate vs mid air ships than rockets ( IF they come from the right angle). Say - if the transport is surrounded by 2 escorts - the planes come in from the left and attack the left ship. It has nowhere to dodge except the left, and the planes are very good at triangulating where the ship will be, so they drop the bombs at that EXACT spot the ship tries to dodge in, guaranteeing that 3/4 bombs hit (depending on which plane you have, of course). Most of the times it's enough to kill the weak escorts the enemy transports have (250kg bombs from interceptors work wonders)
      They're literally the best Stuka bombers ever in existence, i finished the campaign without almost a single ship lost because of them (Except for the end... for obvious reasons)

    • @gae_wead_dad_6914
      @gae_wead_dad_6914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Phrosphor Besides the point - planes will rarely give you a reason to turn on your radar since they're so good at scouting. You can send a single plane to hoover around a settlement just to see if there's a strike group in it without raising an alarm or alerting the enemy. You can also keep it hovering or attack it from another settlement to see what it is, and leave/wait for the alarm to cool off and then go to the settlement to get a silent strike.
      This is especially useful for when you see 2 enemies in the settlement and you're not sure if one of them is a transport.
      The enemy will react to planes ONLY if they have some of their own. That's why the best planes to send are the LA-29's. They're an invaluable scouting tool on hard mode. Just be sure that you don't send them exactly on the settlement, just somewhere around it, since if you do - they will attack once they're there.
