  • Doctor Furlan explains what are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, naproxen, diclofenac, ibuprofen and celecoxib. Dr. Furlan shows the indications and contra-indications for these medications. How to use them for pain, chronic pain, migraines, headaches, menstrual cramps and acute pain.
    She answers questions about mixing antiinflammatories, safety for children, during pregnancy and for elderly people.
    Dr. Furlan explains that some anti-inflammatories are different in terms of side effects, complications and toxicity. It is important to remember that acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory but Dr. Furlan includes this drug in this video because there is a lot of confusion about what acetaminophen is. And she explains the potential poisoning by acetaminophen (Tylenol).
    To read the script of this video, visit this link:

    She answers these questions:
    1) How anti-inflammatory medications are different, is one better than the other?
    2) Can I mix anti-inflammatory?
    3) Can I use an NSAID if I have high blood pressure?
    4) Are NSAIDs safe for children?

      @@DrAndreaFurlan Hello doctor! I am 46 years old, I injured my shoulder, nothing is broken, the specialist doctor says I injured my muscle! I'm going on therapy,Dr prescribed neproxin! 500 mg daily! he stressed to me that I don’t have to take it every day but when I feel pain! and be sure to take with food! Neproxin helped me but when I take it I feel as drunk! I have no strength! By the way I'm 6'2 "and 250 pounds! When I told the doctor he reduced my dose to 250 milligrams! I don't take it regularly but sometimes! I also noticed that when I take neproxin my sugar is increased for a few hours (I have type 2 diabetes) I drink a lot water! I don't smoke, I don't take drugs, I don't drink alcohol! Do I need to change my medication?

    I love your videos Dr. Furlan! You have guided me so well ,especially in between doctor and specialist appointments. I m able to view each subject matter to have my questions answered and if more questions arise I am able to write them down to ask at the next appointment. So thank you again for all the detail and attention you put into each video!
    May I ask if you have a video for feverfew? I took it in my 20's for migrane,6 months and migranes were eliminated. Now I would like to add it again ,but do want to know more about it. I happened upon it in my 20's and didn't research it much .

      My doctor also prescribed naproxen for my frozen shoulder. It didn’t help. I tried chiropractic, and even though my shoulder could not be moved to adjust it, they did deep tissue massage to a level where I could feel the beginning of that pain but no deeper. After 3 sessions the shoulder was much improved. The fourth visit was canceled due to Hurricane Ian.

    I have had chronic pain for thirty years. I took prescription NSAIDs for about 15 years, then developed painful, untreatable, constant heartburn. So, my doctor switched me to the COX-2 type. The first two, Vioxx and Bextra, were taken off the market eventually, so now I take Celecoxib. It really helps to reduce my pain, so I have a much better quality of life.

    Hi, i wish you can do some video on Vasculitis ' i had a severe attack back in 1996, since than i need to take prednisone 15 mg per day, after all these years now the medication is ruining my body... is there evolution in the cure ? thanks

    • @thehealthychefri
      @thehealthychefri 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prednisone raises blood sugar and overtime, you become insulin resistant, that’s how the vascular wall become stiff! Any NSAI combined with prednisone just speeds up the process.

    Thank you for this information. I suffer from osteoarthritis and sometimes need pain relief. My go-to is Advil, but my doctor has prescribed Mobic. Where does it fit in among these pain medications?

    • @DrAndreaFurlan
      @DrAndreaFurlan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mobic is meloxicam. I didn't have time in this video to talk about all the NSAIDs that exist. Maybe in a future video.
