Adam Serwer gets it. He understands that voting to support white supremacy is voting some people's self-interest People vote against that ECONOMIC self-interest all the time. Progressives who are economically comfortable vote against their economic interests in order to have a more equitable society.
A co-worker openly, very proudly, admitted during a conversation with myself and another co-worker that they voted for Trump because he is a “great businessman” which has lead to them making a ton of investment money since Trump became POTUS. When asked about Trump’s cruel racist misogynistic xenophobic homophobic islamophobic erratic beliefs, actions, comments and policies, they stated they “don’t pay attention to all the crazy things he says and does.”
