Always love Trevor’s interviews. Unlike the “news” interviewers who always seem to be trying to provoke a controversial sound bite, Trevor’s interviews are thoughtful and nuanced and have greater depth than most interviews I see on news networks.
Brilliant interview!! Two scholarly men aiming and reaching to dig deeper into the components and vagaries of race in the Obama administration primarily, and secondarily in the Trump administration.
Ta-Nehisi Coates. A fascinating individual. Hearing his take on racial issues is very refreshing. You're not going into the conversation expecting normal conversation about race you're going in with a much more deeper understanding of it and coming out like "okay I think I have a better understanding than I would have with any other person who talked about it"
Amazing interview! He is absolutely right about having an experience, expertise and knowledge of a subject so you whole heart just purred on the paper like a wave on the ocean. Great, handsome and beautiful mind. We need billion of copies of him and his book.
@@firstlast9846 In what is bound to be the most quoted passage from the book, you write that you watched the smoldering towers of 9/11 with a cold heart. At the time you felt the police and firefighters who died “were menaces of nature; they were the fire, the comet, the storm, which could - with no justification - shatter my body.” You obviously do not mean that literally today (sometimes in your phrasing you seem determined to be misunderstood). You are illustrating the perspective born of the rage “that burned in me then, animates me now, and will likely leave me on fire for the rest of my days.”
2 brilliant men just conversing from their individual and common perspectives. Outstanding conversation! Certain people are supposed to hate this. That’s their roll in this jacked up country
For all those wondering why the Daily show isn't covering the war in Ukraine, I have a theory. It's certainly not because they don't care , and I don't think its Trevor's personal choice not to cover it, but my belief is that the higher higher ups don't want him to yet, the daily show is supposed to be a comedic news channel, you receive news, but comedy is thrown in here and there to lighten the mood, and make the news overall more entertaining and less serious, but with what is happening in Ukraine along with the uncertainty, there is nothing funny about the situation, in addition the way the daily show normally broadcast its news stories are in short summaries of the situation and then onto the next story, the situation in Ukraine is not simply a topic than can be mentioned for 5 minutes and then glossed over for another story, hence why I think that at least for now, the daily show is choosing to let the more serious news channels cover it.
Yeah, noticed the same thing on John Oliver, he made mention of it and they had the flag in the stage, but he didn't do a piece on it. I am betting we'll see something more substantive once there is some certainty that Putin isn't going to start tossing nukes and/or there is a ceasefire.
Yeah. I've seen some Ukrainian viewers who were less than pleased that war in their country is part of other comedic late night talk shows. Which is a very valid point. I also recognize American's have a culture to joke about aweful situations even when the situation is about them. However, war is a whole other level of aweful. It's a line I wouldn't want to walk either.
@@DownwithEA1 yes, I saw a Stephen Colbert piece, and while I respect that he was at least trying to address the war, it felt very wrong to hear his, audience cracking up at his jokes. I know it's all about breaking up the tension, but this goes beyond anything remotely funny.
The depth, the nuance & facts of analysis is just riveting. Compare that to the rants & rages of Candace Owens or even Judge Clearance Thomas, leaves you shaking your head from those two utter stupidity.
Conversations like this are rarely heard. It`s rare to have a talk show who is so literate, and black. Across from him is a very thoughtful literate and educated writer, who is black. Both men express themselves extremely well, both men have experienced racism, but in different ways. Man, this may have never happened before, in the whole history of television.
This was a very interesting conversation. I like that Trevor said he was a big optimist and Ta-Nehisi was not. I love Trevor and I realized his level of optimism is different from other comics. And I bought Between The World and Me and didn't get throught the 1st chapter. It felt so different than the way I like to think about things. I felt like he was trying to convince me of how awful life was for me. Maybe I'll give him another chance.
Yes he should cover the racism from the Ukrainian ppl while they're at war, preventing black students from passing borders and getting on buses and trains... disgusting
I love you both so much. But also, Trump didn’t win because he was rich and white. We could have a whole discussion about the fraternity of the presidency and where they went to school, etc. But Trump won because he is an excellent entertainer and his whole strategy was just to give the people what they want. He was a strawman for the Republican party and no one thought he believed in anything he said. His opponents didn’t take him seriously or took him too seriously. Trump is one of the greatest conmen of all time. But most of the people in power are just rich white guys.
I loved this interview! Unfortunately for Hillary she figured out how to win with diff constituents but her arrogance toward black ppl esp black men sank the ship. She blew it!
Sweetie she actually won an very overwhelming percentage of the black vote including black men. But if you think Trump was more appealing to black men what does say about your values admiring a known racist because he was a man.
@@FemFantastic2.0 i didn't mention his name. My comment was regarding Hillary. She lost, plain n simple bec as many "black" votes as she received she still LOST!!!! Do you get that?!! Go argue about facts with someone else.
@@vivpace7049 sweetie she lost because of the way the electoral college is set up. She won the popular vote but lost because the republicans in those smaller less densely populated states won.
