Ethan, your segments bring back a lot of memories. I was a teen in the 80s and remember all of these cars when they were new and on the road. I remember sitting in a new Subaru SVX in the showroom with my dad as well as the Mercur. I also remember both the LN7 and EXP. My parents had the station wagon equivalent at the time, an 81 Lynx wagon. Used to sneak it out of the garage and joyride in it before I first got my license. Suzuki also had some unique vehicles as did Renault. You rarely see them on the road anymore. Thanks for rekindling those memories!!!

I had an XR4Ti, it had the mods that made it vastly better than stock. A Rapido front mount intercooler( no intercooler stock ) and a T5 transmission. I had mine in 2005 and my buddy had an STI the first year they brought them to North America, he was constantly surprised how well it kept up in spirited driving. I wish I had the money for an Esslinger head back then! Another great video, thanks for continuing to dig into the endless mine of '80's automotive history!

I love the VehiCross since the beginning. And by the time I was able to buy, they’ve always been too expensive. I’ve always seen them with a snake-like styling with those headlights and the ‘fangs’ in the grill, think Dodge Copperhead concept’s snake design allusions. The interior was always a bummer.
The BEST iteration of this car can be seen in the Movie Mission to Mars at the beginning in a concept convertible form. The thing is still gorgeous after all these years.

I loved the looks of the Merkur XR4Ti. My girlfriend at the time had one of those. Hers was a red 1986 with automatic, leather and moonroof. The car was pretty quick, but it started having issues around 80K miles. The only thing that didn't give her issues was the automatic transmission. Turbo failure and electrical gremlins started occuring around 80K miles. Yeah. She loved it when it ran well, but even she said that she'd never recommend one.

The cordia was used as a cop car in Australia. Turbo. It was banned not even a year in because they where so crazy to drive. I bought one 10 years ago. And they where right. Torque steer all over the road. I could get it up to 160ks in the distance of 5 houses. One of the funnest cars and biggest death traps I’ve ever owned

The Vehicross, "no other vehicle like it", almost all vehicles look like it now, or it's brother, the Axiom. They only lack a spine. I've owned everything from a I-Mark turbo hatch, to a Rodeo, to now owning 4 90's pickups. Isuzu has the unfortunate ability to make cars before the trend they fit into exists. Just like the Impulse, they build them at least 5-10 years before they fit in.

Not gonna lie, the concept of a “Kei/micro-sized SUV” sounds super appealing to me as someone who currently doesn’t own a license; The perfect blend of ruggedness, practicality, and safety with fun factor and great fuel economy. (Though, admittedly, I WOULD personally swap out the four-cylinder for an upgraded 40+ HP lawn mower engine, just to keep things easier for me to work on.)

I had a Cordia Turbo, the manual rear seat b-pillar vents and the squishy foam rear spoiler. The mechanic that performed my service replace the fuel injection lines with low pressure fuel line and on my way to work blazed up destroying the wiring harness which I didn’t know how to make back then.

In Sweden people use the Suzuki x-90 to their teenager. We have something that we call A-traktor, it is a car that only can drive up to 30km/h and teenagers can get their driver license to these cars by the age of 15. The Suzuki x-90 is perfect to rebuild, it has only to seats and if you lock it at the second gear it only drives up to 30km/h.

Speaking of Merkurs, I'd love for you to feature the Scorpio. We had one when I just got my license (early 2000s). It drove great, but definitely had some mechanical/electrical issues and was hard to source parts for sometimes. I picked up a flywheel when I was on student exchange in Germany because we couldn't order one where I lived. That was the second flywheel it went through too.

When I was a young Cop I once pulled one an X90 late in the evening. I thought I had another drunk golfer in another custom golf cart that had decided to take a drive downtown. Trust me, it wouldn't have been the first time. Once I approached it I realized it had a temporary 30-day tag. At that point I realized it was an actual car, I apologized to the lady driving and we both laughed about it. She said her husband wouldn't ride in it.

I remember how 10 years ago the merkur was still popular on Craigslist with prices around $2k, another car that disappeared is the Alliance (Renault) convertible.

I bought an Alliance convertible in 1989. It was a 1985 model. I always thought it was the poor mans BMW convertible. I must admit I had fewer problems with it than BMW owners did with theirs.

I was told that Vcross was not profitable vehicle to make and sell at Isuzu. Meaning more they sell more they lose money. This is why Isuzu limited number of production. It is also very rare vehicle in here. I’m always enjoy watching your channel, from Japan!

I have a red Zuki X-90 and i freakin love it. It has some issues but its very fun to drive. NOTE: THE X-90 IS VERY TOP HEAVY AND WILL ROLL IF TURNS ARE TAKEN FAST.

I had a Cordia in the late 90s I drove for about 5 years. I loved that car and drove it all over the great plains. I'd but one again if I even found it

In Sweden I can see some rebuilds of the X-90 with a 50-80km/h limit and re-registered as a type of tractor so 15 year olds legally can drive it. Called A-tractor or EPA

Merkurs come up for sale from time to time, but they go fast because they have a bit of an underground following among people who want a Cosworth Sierra but can't import one :D

Fantastic video. That dash on the Mitsubishi was really good looking with no clutter. I saw a Suzuki and a Verhicross locally sell in a few days .I drove a girlfriend's Merkur in high school and it was a real blast.
Love to see a Mitsu Starion or the Chrysler version. I remember when it came out back in the 80s an area mall had two indoors, on display. Felt like a real sports car inside.
    Would like to see more

Your taste in cars is... different. But I’d own any of these. Definitely unique for their time. Had a coworker way back that bought an X-90 when they came out. What does an X-90 buyer look like? A goth, metal head woman!
