When you talked about how side characters can have a film focused on them i immediately thought of how kamen rider handles their side content after the shows are over. They would have 2-3 after series movies that do exactly what super hero does, take the main character out of the story and let the rest of the cast handle the new boss battle.
Gohan needs to take a hint from Ichigo. He just wants to live at home with his wife Orihime and their son and work a normal job as a translator… but he can still Bankai whenever he wants to.
Most of the people that say the movie is bad are people that watched some bad cam-rip. This is a movie that is 100x better when you go see it in theaters.
Oh yeah, the CG aesthetic is pretty near seamless with how the series should look. Maybe sometimes, you can tell they are CG animated, and Whis looks really desaturated for some reason but the presentation overall is very solid. If this was part of a dragonball videogame, this would be lauded as one of the best animated dragonball stories in any game.
saw it last night. without much spoilers, you see a lot of characters as cameos, but i felt they brought them in at the proper moment and that was all you saw. agree with Tekking101 that there were lots of humor between knowing the lore and history of DB/DBZ and imagery. some Bulma moments were like why did we cut to her again? never felt like the movie was dragging out at any moment. even at the critical moment at the end, the Gohan/Piccolo relationship played out similar to Goku/Krillin right after the 22nd tournament, caught wanting to hear Gohan say "i won't let you kill my best friend." watched it in dub so i could get the understanding of the story in the first go. am very much considering watching the sub as well to see what might've changed.
I saw this last night in IMAX and I loved it! Piccolo and Gohan are my favorite characters. Also fun fact, Zoro and Piccolo share the same voice actor.
if gohan's eye sight gets better in ssj it only makes sense. ssj is a booster that not only increases ki but physical power too so naturally his eye sight would get better with a booster activated.
I find it funny that the last 2 dragon ball movies haven't had Goku as the main character. in this one it was Piccollo and in the last one it's debatable but I'd say Broly was the main character
Okay so i finally decided to watch it.... Best DB movie to date... I am still sad about the animation but wow... A wholesome story about a young man connecting with his adoptive step father through his daughter who loves them both equally... This was DB fanfiction levels of fan service and i can say i appreciated all of Piccolo being Gohans real dad, this movie was great.
I loved the movie. Piccolo has always been one of my favorite characters and after the slog that the super anime was, it was finally so much fun to finally get away from goku and vegeta and let other characters shine. Gohan was great & I absolutely love Gamma 1 & 2. To me, Gamma 2 has more characterization than any of the tournament of power characters that were introduced in that arc. For me, the Dragon Ball Super Movies are easily so much better than the manga or anime. There were a few things I didn’t like. I agree with you, I’m tired of retreading gohan getting his power back. I’m tired of krillin being to the punching bag and Vilma berates him for being weak. One of my favorite episodes in the anime was the one focusing on krillin and how he’s not like goku and he’s scared to fight BUT he proves his strength to him & rises to the occasion (when goku was recruiting for top). My biggest complaint: Bulma. I know it was played for jokes she used shenron for plastic surgery and yes she’s always been vapid and shallow but that’s just low brow and I’ve never liked that type of humor in db. I didn’t like beerus instantly liking chilai. I thought her and broly were the pairing. Chilai is cool, cunning not physically strong but uses her wit to get by. I’d rather had seen her outwit beerus than just beerus going “ooh pretty girl”. How old is beerus? I wasn’t a fan of that. Dr. Hedo was great and I can’t stop singing the praises of Gamma 1 & 2.
This was my favorite dragon ball movie. Really any dragon ball content in a long time. Broly was really good too but the super anime was just so soulless and boring it killed any hype I had when I saw advertising for this movie. Superhero has heart and feels like the original dragon ball, loved it. Gamma 2 is easily my favorite new character since the introduction of Beerus
Man so much about this movie worked. Your so right about the characters feeling right on point, especially Piccolo and Gohan. Bulma just got ragged on relentlessly though haha, Oh and When they were analyzing power levels and brought Hercule up. They still think he's super powerful XD
If Goku and Vegeta: When will cell be ready? I want a fight. I know it was intentional on hedo part only preparing the body. He made cell max a brute who ran on instinct as a way to sabotage mangeta. Delayed the development of the brain /mind to milk mangeta for all his worth to develop his androids. Gammas. I love the fact 18 has ptsd on seeing cell max.
I think that this was test film for the new ways of using CGI, hence the low marketing compared with Broly movie. They didn't want to stress to much about it in cased it floped they could tell with was some sort of filler. I realy wonder how they will handle the time line from now tanking into account that Pan in a couple of years will be the same age as in GT. Please, please make SSJ4 cannon, maybe like in that fan fiction with the SSJ4 white (ultra instict maybe?)
Although the 3-D kept the action a bit slower than what I’m used to with Dragon Ball, I LOVED the animation style. I’d love to see it continue (with different directors ofc)
I love “ ‘Florida Orange’ Piccolo” (the Florida is an adjective describing the kind of Orange it is) I hope that name picks up steam. It just works better than “Orange Piccolo” It has that Goofy “Special Beam Cannon” “Hellzone Grenade” “Light Grenade” touch.
If this movie takes place YEARS after the tournament of power (aka years after Piccolo last turned giant in the original Dragon Ball), it would make sense that he would forget that he could become a giant.
My favorite moment of the movie was when after Gohan used Special Beam Cannon. When Piccolo asked him how he know it, Gohan mentioned that it was so cool and meaningful to him, especially since he saw it when Piccolo killed his Father 😂
Didn't Bulma say, I think in Broly, that she was collecting dragon balls to wish to get younger 5 years and she had the whole explanation that if she wished to get any younger people would start to question it and so on?
This movie was great! Even though they reused lots of ideas.. Piccolo getting another form, along with the coloring naming power ups "Orange Piccolo, Golden Frieza, Vegito Blue", and forcibly causing a crisis causing Gohan to "awaken", etc... it was still amazing. I'm just waiting for them to announce the next anime. There's definitely enough manga content to fill many episodes up.
Frieza gets mentioned when they explain to Beerus why Broly & Co. are there. Which kind of works perfectly considering what happened in the Manga! But overall personally this is my #1 favorite DB movie!
The movie in general didn't have much budget in terms of it's Over-Seas Advertisement. Toei wasn't really expecting much from the Western world because of the movie's heavy lean on comedy.
They actually aged Goten and not just another version of Trunks again... Here is hoping they actually do some major independent development of Goten and not have him as a sidekick.
I remember wayy back when, Toriyama tried to let Gohan take over the center stage from the Cell arc moving forward and let Goku stay in the afterlife for good, but it got so much backlash that he had to bring Goku back in the end. I have a feeling he intentionally nerfed Gohan into oblivion from then on just to spite the fans.

I just seen like 2 hours ago and it was pretty good. What surprised me was how funny it was. I can't wait to see the Gamma's in a new fighting game. Also 21 being canon is pretty cool.
The thing that I enjoyed the most is that it used the canon in a pretty tasteful way. A good amount of nostalgia, but the new characters work by themselves.
I don't keep up with DBS reading-wise but I like to keep up with the overarching storylines/arcs, its so refreshing that it's gotten back to it's original Dragon Ball slice of life adventure funny times, DBZ is fine for what it is but it was almost never what I came to DB for. What a fun movie, what a cutie Pan is, Piccolo is the sweetest, both transformations were a bit sussy sussy but hey its DB theres going to be transformations.
I only have two issues with the movie. Cell Max was trash. It felt like a dollar store ripoff. It did not feel like it was real a threat. I'm ok with the added weakness to the head, but no regeneration? How is it an upgrade from the original Cell? It would have been cool if it had a second form after destroying the head that made it not a giant anymore. My second issue was Gohan snapping from seeing Piccolo getting hammered. He has seen that multiple times so I don't think it would be enough to push him over the edge, especially since he was skipping on training regularly. Perhaps it would have been better if Pan was hurt badly by Cell Max as well as Piccolo. Both his father figure and daughter getting hurt in front of him seems like the right amount of "Emotional damage". Everything else about the movie was good.
I think what annoys me the most is Gohan. It's like he's never accepted being a warrior, even though it's what he wanted as a kid. He gains tons of power, has the ability to grow exponentially, could be the embodiment of peace, but doesn't care until it's too late? Plot armor is the only thing carrying the dead weight of what Gohan should have been in the series. He sucks and it's heart breaking. Then the crap with the glasses really slaps the icing on the poop cake. I want to like Gohan so bad, but he's too annoying. I used to love him so much...
My favourite bit was them referencing the filler DBZ ep where Goku and piccolo learn to drive, which is my favourite ep of filler in any media second only to the G8 arc 😅

@@Animelover3819 but didn’t the girl come from the underwear wish? I’d think it would have had to have an effect then, and oolong was definitely in it for the panties that was his long time selfish wish. So I think the theory might be debunked a little.
@@stevelucky7579 that was actually showcased with Oceanus Shenron
Oolong’s wish was a selfish wish that ultimately brought out good results
Oceanus Shenron was a seemingly good Dragon that brought destruction wherever she went
Nice review Tekking! It would be cool if you did Dragonball character discussions on your channel. I would like to see the next movie focus on Goten and Trunks.
12:49- I agree with that statement! The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has that problem in their games as of late. However, Sonic Frontiers may not have that issue.
I sure hope so, but I’m keeping my expectations low.
@@chriscannon8144 That’s fair. I’ll be doing the same.
I will be massively disappointed if sonic doesn't clip through the floor every 5 minutes. I want another Sonic 06 to laugh at.
I quite enjoyed the movie with Piccolo being my favorite character.
I love Broly second coming, the animation is amazing and Gohan fight is one of the bests.
Haven’t seen it but piccolo being the main character instantly makes me want to watch it, he’s the best character in the series
They are rare but Matt's reviews on Any Dragon Ball content are always a treat
Personally liked this movie more then BoG but less than Super Broly
Same the first half was great, I really love what they’re doing with pan and piccolo but gohan is still being written wrong IMO beast was just an asspull and undeserved.
@@damarkomoore5236 nah gohans whole thing is not needing to train alot.
@@animeperspective9866 no it wasn’t gohan trained intensely from the age of 4-11ish he didn’t train for the buu saga and has been gifted bs power ups since if we’re being honest you can tell tori is done with his character.
@@animeperspective9866 also all of gohans power ups before the buu saga felt earned and he did in fact train I don’t know where you’re getting this gohan has never trained bs from.
@@damarkomoore5236 again bullshit. He trained for 3 months until the saiyans arrived. And trained 1 year with his dad in the time chamber. He then didn't train for 7 years. Didn't train in the buu sage and got his power unlocked. Didn't train again in super. Then trained for a few months to get himself in fighting shape and lastly trained for 2 days before the top. He hardly ever trains hence why the complaint of his power being bs makes no sense since that's always been the case
Watching the entire Dragon Ball franchise was my lockdown quest. Now you convinced me to watch this movie.
Why wouldn’t you if you’re a fan?
When you talked about how side characters can have a film focused on them i immediately thought of how kamen rider handles their side content after the shows are over. They would have 2-3 after series movies that do exactly what super hero does, take the main character out of the story and let the rest of the cast handle the new boss battle.
Also fun fact: Gamma 1 & 2 closely resemble Ultraman Rosso and Blu, just put them side by side and you'll see what i mean.
Yup kamen rider build did like 4-5 V-cinima for everyone else it's great and wish more series did this
Gohan needs to take a hint from Ichigo.
"With the great power comes with responsibility"
Gohan: I'm going to pretend like I never heard that
I saw this last night in IMAX and I loved it! Piccolo and Gohan are my favorite characters. Also fun fact, Zoro and Piccolo share the same voice actor.
Now I’m trying to picture Piccolo using three sword style lol.
Piccollos new transformation was purely badass, long overdo for my fav DB character
if gohan's eye sight gets better in ssj it only makes sense. ssj is a booster that not only increases ki but physical power too so naturally his eye sight would get better with a booster activated.
So far tekking has my exact opinion on this movie and I love that I’m not alone. Great movie
It was awesome my theater was having a great time as was I
I find it funny that the last 2 dragon ball movies haven't had Goku as the main character. in this one it was Piccollo and in the last one it's debatable but I'd say Broly was the main character
The movie is named after Broly. I’d say you’re right. He’s the MC.
This is my favorite since Path to Power. I can really feel the old-school Dragon Ball in the heart of this film and I love it.
Man so much about this movie worked. Your so right about the characters feeling right on point, especially Piccolo and Gohan.
Bulma just got ragged on relentlessly though haha, Oh and When they were analyzing power levels and brought Hercule up. They still think he's super powerful XD
Bulma will be the reason for the Shadow Dragons. Parts of GT are creeping in.
If Goku and Vegeta:
When will cell be ready? I want a fight.
I know it was intentional on hedo part only preparing the body. He made cell max a brute who ran on instinct as a way to sabotage mangeta. Delayed the development of the brain /mind to milk mangeta for all his worth to develop his androids. Gammas.
I love the fact 18 has ptsd on seeing cell max.
Still think Vegeta’s blue form should have been called “Royal Blue”
I'm personally a fan of super saiyan bluer
Still waiting on the “tekking teaches us to tie a tie” video.
Everyone loved the broly fight so much so that the db team was like just make a whole movie out of it
Nah SSJ4 just wouldn’t fit in Super continuity
Pan is like the best character in the movie. ❤️ Piccolo was close second.
Although the 3-D kept the action a bit slower than what I’m used to with Dragon Ball, I LOVED the animation style.
I’d love to see it continue (with different directors ofc)
Completely agree with you Matt, the fact that Goku and Vegeta weren't the mains was incredibly refreshing
I love “ ‘Florida Orange’ Piccolo” (the Florida is an adjective describing the kind of Orange it is)
I hope that name picks up steam. It just works better than “Orange Piccolo”
It has that Goofy “Special Beam Cannon” “Hellzone Grenade” “Light Grenade” touch.
Literally just got back from watching this as of typing this. Cool to see Tekkings thoughts while it's still fresh in my mind.
If this movie takes place YEARS after the tournament of power (aka years after Piccolo last turned giant in the original Dragon Ball), it would make sense that he would forget that he could become a giant.
Wow it's really been so long since I've visited your channel, I'm surprised you're not talking on your bed anymore. 😅
Thanks for this video!👌
It makes me so angry that they teased teen gotenks then didn’t show him
IKR
I missed watching your channel. One Piece is something I don't follow super hard so this is taking me back to the Bleach review days
when gohan drop the senzu bean remind me of when he dropped the potara in fusion saga
My favorite moment of the movie was when after Gohan used Special Beam Cannon. When Piccolo asked him how he know it, Gohan mentioned that it was so cool and meaningful to him, especially since he saw it when Piccolo killed his Father 😂
Love the video and keep up the great work tekking
Didn't Bulma say, I think in Broly, that she was collecting dragon balls to wish to get younger 5 years and she had the whole explanation that if she wished to get any younger people would start to question it and so on?
Her AND Freiza wanted to be younger and taller a few inches
The only thing I disliked about the movie is they didn’t tell dr hado that gohan was the great sayai man
This movie was great!
I prefer to call it “Florida Orange Piccolo” has a better ring to it.
I have not been hype for this movie at all, now I have to see it. Thanks Tekking.
Frieza gets mentioned when they explain to Beerus why Broly & Co. are there.
Which kind of works perfectly considering what happened in the Manga!
But overall personally this is my #1 favorite DB movie!
Please can you make another manga collection video
This was a definite fun movie! I had so much fun with it
Keep up the good work. Been following you since you had less than 100k subs.
Piccolo's orange form looked very reminiscent of the black star dragons looked so badass
I don't even watch dragon ball, but I'm still here to hear Tekking!
Without spoilers, I'm surprised the theater I saw it at didn't have any promotional stuff when I bought my ticket compared to when I saw Broly.
The movie in general didn't have much budget in terms of it's Over-Seas Advertisement. Toei wasn't really expecting much from the Western world because of the movie's heavy lean on comedy.
@@R00TB33R Oh! I guess it was just my speed as well.
Just The fact that goku isn't the main character of the movie makes it 100x better
They actually aged Goten and not just another version of Trunks again... Here is hoping they actually do some major independent development of Goten and not have him as a sidekick.
I was dead when Bulma kept trying to wish for body enhancements from Shenron bro said yeah she ain't serious I'm finna head out😂💀
Gohan: “I’m Mystic!”
Gozar in the distance: “...what...!!”
It wasn't back lash he just felt Gohan couldn't carry the story.
59:92 this is the moment that Tekking truly became 101.
Love the video man and I saw the movie yesterday as well with my friend whose a big DBZ fan and he loved it and as someone who has never been a big fan but I enjoy dragon ball but anyways great movie I enjoy Piccalo being the main character I loved his interactions with everyone and him like sneaking in and out of RRs base multiple times made me think of a Rouge and made me laugh
It’s an absolute blast of a movie, I loved it a lot and I don’t care what the haters say about the cgi.
Yes some scenes look a bit rough but the product as a whole was a banger.
I watched the movie and I just didn't like it. Btw don't just call people who have a critic about the movie haters, it just makes for a lack of discussion.
@@Danksforbreakfast if you’re not a hater then it doesn’t concern you.
This film had so many naysayers trash on the cgi before even seeing the movie.
@@Amplifymagic When talking about CGI in Anime that comes with territory, and I don’t fault the criticism from those who didn’t like it. And they shouldn’t be considered haters.
@@ChiefEngineBoy I’m ok with criticism, it’s the mindless haters that reeee without even have seen the film. They are definitely haters. Many have come around tho since the initial trailers.
At first, when Teking said he loved the movie I was so confused, because I was so mad after finishing that movie.
But he just laughed at all the stuff that bothered me, so maybe I just misread the movie and it’s actually a comedy
Making a movie based around Piccolo and Gohan was the best idea they could’ve made
I just seen like 2 hours ago and it was pretty good.
I used to watch Dragon ball z but stopped I wasn't interested anymore, but I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
I just KNEW that the "gammas" were gonna be food for MaxCell to perfect him.
"Why I can see you sound effects,"
This movie was funny. So good lol
In super he only saw it once which was against frieza when he returned. He never once raged out in his ultimate form
I loved the fun that they brought with the OG RR Army days.
Gohan finally getting cool again was enough for me to enjoy it
My favourite bit was them referencing the filler DBZ ep where Goku and piccolo learn to drive, which is my favourite ep of filler in any media second only to the G8 arc 😅
Wow Tekking review Dragon Ball, am I dreaming? Cool review/discussion as always, I loved Gamma 2 in this movie, he had a great fight. I'm not sold on Beast Gohan, where did that come from? xD
well tekking is a random and i thought i was prepared for everything , not dragon ball video thou , but a welcomed one
