@16:02 You're impressed? I'm flabbergasted! They look fantastic. I'm so glad you could breathe new life into them. It was nice to see Christine for a moment. She has such a lovely smile.
A comment from someone who knows nothing about this gear: given that there are 4 gaiters, could they be for a horse? They look pretty small for legs of any of the big strapping men in my family. At any rate, a very interesting find. I’m glad you could bring that leather back to life.
Thanks Elaine. They expand a fair way, and then tightened with the straps. Judging on how small the belt was on me - I'm assuming the original owner wasn't a big strapping lad!
The thin belt with 1915 date, the bottom word is WALSALL. Walsall in England was the centre of the leather industry back then, lots of leather goods especially saddlery.
More great shed Archaeology Chris, great finds, a real bit of history there, the split twin buckled belt/strap is a mystery, hopefully someone will recognise it and enlighten us all ! Considering the condition of the case, the condition of the other leather items is amazing - I guess the case did do it's job in protecting the contents for at least some time !
Good work on the leather 👏🏻👏🏻 looks beautiful now , shame about the case . I have often thought of what your breathing in when you get really old stuff out 😳 dried up rat poo can’t be good for your lungs 🥴 hopefully someone will want to have a try at restoring the case , let us know please
Yeah, some shed dust would be rather toxic and I'm normally pretty careful - especially sweeping them out! I have the case at the shop today with a "free" tag - hopefully someone sees some value there..
Some of the leather could certainly be brought back to life, but there were BIG holes and the hinge/base area was nearly cracked right through. It wouldn't have been worth the effort! Hopefully someone can use the hardware though..
@@TheUltimateRecycler I was watching Susie Dent on the Repair Shop UK transforming some pretty broken and damaged leather items. Maybe there is a leather worker out there who sees the value in this weather beaten old bag

Really impressed how the leather came up, great job Chris 👍
Thanks mate, yes it's amazing how it came up! 😃👍
That case would make a cool decorative piece after a good cleaning.
Yes, it would have cleaned up much better with some effort! 👍
Very impressive to see leather come back like that.
Thanks Nas! Yes and with more work it would be even better! 👍😊
Watching from Florida in America. I’ve enjoyed the video and all the treasures.
Thanks Jose, glad you are enjoying the content! 😊👍
It's amazing what a bit of polishing can do to a piece of leather. Great job
Thanks Anita! 😊👍

Thanks Dee! Yes she does! ❤ So does Coco - in her own way!! 🤣
Amazing and interesting find Chris.
Thanks Dave! 😊👍
Brought those leather pieces back from the brink. They look fantastic.
They sure do mate - I was pleasantly surprised! 😀👍
Bonus Christine and Coco appearance. 😊 Chris, I detect a very (very) slight echo in that storage shed already! 😯
Haha, maybe the hint of an echo! 🤣
Neat find. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Cynthia! 😊👍
The open ended metal buckle looks very similar to my grandmothers book strap which they used to carrybooks. The metal piece was the handle
Thanks Rob, I'll do some research on that! Thanks for watching 😊👍

Sounds good. Thanks!

Yes, thanks! I guess quite a lot of military stuff was made in England around that era! 😊👍

Thanks Andy, yeah the case protected things pretty well although the wasps & rats still got in there!

Many thanks Sören! 😃😃
$220 ! , that leather came up fantastic. 👍
Yes, I even surprised myself! Thanks Alex 👍
Great resto Chris. The leather came up beautifully.
Thanks Nick. Yep, it sure did! 😀
Given how much the military markings add to old leather... it makes me wonder how much a stamp would cost and how we could tell the difference?
I guess a stamp would be easy to make Martin, but it would be hard to fool a collector as the patina of the stamped leather just wouldn't be the same!
The strap with two buckles. Could it be for a sword sheath? IE goes over the shoulder and under a belt?
Yeah, I don't know! Maybe. I'll do some more checking when I get a chance. Thanks for watching 😊👍
Why don’t you give the suitcase an oil up
I was thinking the same. It's amazing what can be done with old leather.

@@dantunno9264 Yes hopefully! That's why I decided to take it to the shop and offer it for free. I really didn't want to bin it!
That's a really nice find, Chris. I wait with baited breath to see what else that shed will cough up. 😊
SUBSCRIBE GUYS! Lovely old heavy leather Chris.
Thanks Glen! 😊👍
