That's the BIGGEST carrot I've ever seen! I think my jaw dropped when you showed it to us!!! 😀 I'm going to try your soup recipe, it looks yummy. Here in New England, the weather is getting cold, and soup is so perfect to warm us up! Thank you for the recipe, Vivi ❤
Vivi, your cooking videos are always the best. This one will be linked to my blog under homestead recipes. I love watching all your so expressive facial expressions. Your kitchen excitement inspires me to spend more time in the kitchen with simple recipes like yours. I store soup in jars with lids that seal up. Well, I do this with any thing hot that's left over. When the food cools it seals the jar similar to bottling. When cool and sealed it goes in the fridge for storage. This is strictly short term storage but since it's sealed up will last longer and safer than the non sealed refrigerator storage containers. I haven't tried it but I've read that glass bottling jars can be used to freeze all kinds of things. Have a great soup day in the kitchen. Nebraska Dave
Wooooohooooooo to soup season!!!! Simple, quick, tasty......what's not to love about soup?! :-) You can use glass jars for freezing......so long as they are food jars like you would use for bottling (canning) as they're more robust. Just remember to leave a good inch of head space to allow for expansion once frozen..... Have fun! :-)
Hi Vivi, never apologize for calling yourself a great cook . One of the prime essentials that dictate haute cuisine is the use of the very best of ingredients . Great chefs pride themselves on the use of the best and freshest of produce . Yours passes in spades . Truly great chefs give equal praise to their ingredients . Combining your allotment awards, fresh product and foodie enthusiasm , I think you have struck the right balance. Keep cooking what you like and you'll always have an audience . Cheers.
And wow what a whopper, made my eyes water lol, that was shockingly big, well done for growing that. And what a fabulous looking soup, honestly shop bought could never compete with home grown, well done Vivi, take care x
Making many soups and saving them in the fridge r freezer is a fab idea. Wonder why I never thought of it. Good that we have so many friends with so many great ideas. We eat a lot of soup in winter. Just a nice cozy meal. Thanks for the recipes.
You're welcome! A mammoth session in the kitchen is such a lovely way to keep warm.......and the sight of a freezer full of soups and currys etc is so satisfying. :-)
I love the autumn and winter time for soups. I "bought" : ( , butternut squash small pumpkins, acorn squash etc for soup making. Love your cooking vids and the info is great. There are many out there that have been raised in a fast food society and do not really know the ins and outs of cooking.
Yum Yum. I love your recipe video's Vivi.....delicious & easy! will try this one at the w,end. I can't be bothered with a lot of faffing around in the kitchen so quick & easy is just what I need lol. More recipes when you have time please :0) Many thanks Vivi x
Hi Vivi, I just made this soup, it is so delicious. I added a rest of cabbage and yesterdays left over from chili sin carne. It is such a beautiful soup! Goimg to try some more of your recipes. Have a nice weekend. Love from Holland.
Yummy! Looks scrumptious. I bought fennel for the first time to make your last soup. As soon as my minestrone's gone I'll be making that. I've never had fennel,..can you believe it?
Crikey!!! Get some down you girl! It's gorg!!!! Really hope you enjoy it.......I love it but it isn't to everyone's taste.......at least you're trying it though! :-)
Great video and thanks for sharing about the freezing and refreezing. My freezer doesn’t have one of the special non-frozen food shelves so I just put things wherever is convenient.
Aha, we get to see the Ginormous Carrot begin to get used. Lol! And good for you reminding people not to waste 'woody' veggies. I love that you give such good tips, Vivi. I made this soup after you posted it on Sean's channel and loved it so much that I made myself a freezer packet of the ingredients to save for just the perfect time. Well, it has been frozen over a year and I guess now is as good a time as any to get it cooked and into my tummy.
Hi Vivi, The soup looks yummy i could eat it either way blended or chunky.Did you treat yourself with some bread with this soup it would go well.Love all these recipes your sharing.
Oh Vivi you make me laugh! Of course you love what you cook, why would we eat something we don' t love to eat! 🤗🤗🤗 great video! Have a wonderful evening!😆
I love 💘 soup thanks for sharing all your recipes and your so 😃 funny 😃 you always make me 😃smile makes for a positive day 💘 Vivi your amazing my beautiful friend.. I shared this video on my Facebook ... God Bless
Glad to see you bounce back after the devastating mouse stealth attack (but what the heck, they need to survive on meager rations too) I believe the phrase 'trying to teach your grand mother to suck eggs' means........ years ago children would collect birds eggs, pierce a hole with a pin and suck out the contents. The dried egg would then be part of their egg collection. It was an innocent past-time, part of understanding nature. Children would be thrilled to show their collection of eggs of to their family, little knowing that, two generations before, grandma and granddad had done just the same thing!
Love soup - I'm going to make a bunch of soup this winter. I got a set of 6 bowls with lids so I can freeze soup, stews and casseroles etc. After they are frozen into individual meals I pop them out and use my vacuum sealer. I got rid of all almost all my freezer containers to unclutter my kitchen and clutter my daughter's kitchen instead. :-)
The soup looks lovely. Is that all you have for a meal? Are you eating purely from the garden, or are you supplementing your dishes with other things? Things like bread, crackers, fruit, cheeses, rice, dairy, etc.? I would pair the soup with a chunk of crusty bread or croutons, or a salad, or a grilled cheese sandwich.
I don't eat much bread (rarely), occasionally oatcakes or ricecakes. Soup like this would be my lunch on it's own....it's very filling because of the lentils........I do buy rice and a bit of cheese (cheese is my only dairy), nuts and lentils.....otherwise it comes from the garden. :-)
What Vivi did next I admire that you do that. I grow most of my food, but I would be starving if that was all I ate... but then I'm an American, which says a lot about my eating habits.
Oooh this looks so good! I will have to try it! I'm making your beat a cold soup for our Thanksgiving next week! I've done nothing but think about it since I finished off the last pot lol!
the right video to make me in a mood for cooking dinner, tonight it's leak and pomegranate vegan risotto :D thanks for the inspiration to get up and do stuff, you're great! XD
Yum yum yum I love soup and it's good that you like everything that you cook - no wastage : ) Did you know that there is a site called "not quite nigella?" Quite fun to look at but not as wholesome as yours : ) Love yours but I quite like hers too. Question - you have a smoothie for breakfast? Is it a green smoothie? More often than not these days when I make a green smoothie I feed it to my plants because it doesn't taste good - they get the goodness but I don't : ( The trend nowadays is "what I ate today" but I would be curious to look at a day of your eating from the allotment because you look so healthy : ) And yes I know no two days are identical well maybe not. Guess what? It rained !!! Happy dance - and it's 22 degrees down from 36 degrees - happy dance : ) : ) : )
Try a handful of spinach, 1 large carrot, 1 apple - corded, 1 small avocado - peeled, 1 cup each of apple juice and orange juice (helps to facilitate blending), 1 to 2 cups frozen mango chunks, 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks and 1 cup of frozen peach chunks (frozen grapes are yummy also). Blend until smooth, makes enough for breakfast and lunch!
My smoothies have a bit of green in but not too much.....either a handful of spinach or Kale or Broccoli......depends what's in season (the rest is usually frozen berries from the summer, oats and carrot or beetroot juice.....and some seeds).
Thanks for sharing. My goodness - what a carrot!!!Because of stomac problems I have been eating soup for a while. Maybe I try this one. Do you buy the lentil or do you grow it? Not sure I can buy that kind of stuff here in Norway. Can I use something else?
I buy my lentils (I may try to grow some one day)........as an alternative you could add beans or chickpeas......they'll give the thickness and the protein. Have fun experimenting. :-)
Did you say don't chuck the leaves on the parsley? Here in the states, people throw out the stalks. Both are tasty and nutritious if homegrown store bought is somewhat iffy even if you purchase organic.
Just the Good Bits The stalks is where the flavour is, celery, parsley, cilantro... In Thailand the root of coriander is washed really well and it's actually really he main ingredient for a specific Thai soup. I wash the roots of parsley and coriander and freeze them for later use. Nothing goes to waste.
I just had to tell you the commercial i get for tour soyp recipe video is for progresso soup. A canned processed american company soup. I keep thinking but Vivis soup is so much tastier and healthier. Lol
Hey Vivi, thinking about carrots etc, would they only give up their vit c during a spell in water, if the cells had been cut, i.e. The cells central would still be ok as they hadn't been breached?
I make it up as I go along depending on what ingredients I have but I tend to prefer red cabbage and carrots with a half mayo/half yogurt dressing. :-)
Why didn't you take a photo of that carrot? You should of shown it to Sean, I'm sure he'd come up with some off color comments, hahaha I make lentil soup with a bit of tomato and spinach.
Hahahaha - he was there when I dug it up and captured the moment on film......we were all (including my neighbour) a bit speechless when it came out of the ground! ;-)
I'm not Vegan, no......I still use a bit of cheese from time to time......but the majority of the food I make for myself is vegan and most of my recipes are either vegan or can easily be made vegan. :-)
That's the BIGGEST carrot I've ever seen! I think my jaw dropped when you showed it to us!!! 😀

@@WhatVivididnext tis the season of soups🇨🇦🐝
I have never blended lentils into a soup! It looked gorgeous and hearty. Another Vivi must try recipe! Thank you!
Oh I do like them blended......makes the soup so think and creamy.....mmmmm. Have fun experimenting. :-)
Ah, fabulous! Thank you.......I keep forgetting the phrase......and I certainly didn't know it's origins - wonderful! Cheers. :-)
Lovely soup
Sooooo good on a chilly, damp day.
Vivi I am always amazed that you keep that white apron clean! Mine is an absolute mess.
Hahahaha - there are a few little tomato splash stains! The birds disguise them..... ;-)
thank you for sharing, I am so excited to try this recipe.
Oooh, enjoy. I really love it......so simple but so yummy and nourishing. :-)
I put soup into ziplock freezer bags the quart size for single servings. they stack well in the freezer.
Great space savers those bags! :-)
This looks so yummy can't wait to make itxx
Oh it's so good......super easy to make and a great winter stand-by. 😊
Love soup - I'm going to make a bunch of soup this winter. Hahahahaha! Our containers, tubs, pots, lids etc certainly take up a bit of room......and organising! ;-)
Nice watching and listening,nice soup
Thank you. :-)

Yum! :-)
Did you say don't chuck the leaves on the parsley? Here in the states, people throw out the stalks. Both are tasty and nutritious if homegrown store bought is somewhat iffy even if you purchase organic.
It isn't parsley it's celery.......most folk only use the stalk but I love the leaves too.....and it's far less wasteful to eat it all. Yum yum! ;-)
Just the Good Bits

Hey Vivi, thinking about carrots etc, would they only give up their vit c during a spell in water, if the cells had been cut, i.e. The cells central would still be ok as they hadn't been breached?
Even uncut the vitamins would start to leach out if left in water. Best to prep them at the last minute. :-)
Do you use salt and pepper?
Rarely. A bit of salt if I have a bag of chips at the seaside......but that's about it. :-)
hi Vivi have you got your own coleslaw recipe, would like to try home made with the veges i have grown .
I make it up as I go along depending on what ingredients I have but I tend to prefer red cabbage and carrots with a half mayo/half yogurt dressing. :-)
Oh yes, it smells divine ! .....what no one else has smelly vision yet ?....that's a shame 😊
Hahahahaha - market smelly-vision and you'll be a millionaire! Btw.....it did smell yummy. :-)
Yum, healthy, cruelty free vegan, nice!
Yeah!!!! :-)
That soup will keep you regular Vivi. 💩
Sheesh! Nigella could learn a few things from you. 🤗
Hahahahaha! ;-)
Why didn't you take a photo of that carrot? You should of shown it to Sean, I'm sure he'd come up with some off color comments, hahaha
I make lentil soup with a bit of tomato and spinach.
Hahahaha - he was there when I dug it up and captured the moment on film......we were all (including my neighbour) a bit speechless when it came out of the ground! ;-)
I keep laughing every time I see that carrot.
I kept screaming! ;-)
hi vivi,,YUM,,xx
Ooooh, it is! :-)
You should make aprons to sell. I love your aprons.
I need to find more time! ;-)
Grace Chilcoat my thoughts exactly.
Mmmm...this looks so good. Nice and thick not like those thin nasty soups you get out of a can.
I love my soups thick - the spoon needs to be able to stand up in it! ;-)
"Suck eggs" means something very different here LOL.
Lol! ;-)
I love everything you cook, are you vegan? 🌻🌻🌻😘🐝
I'm not Vegan, no......I still use a bit of cheese from time to time......but the majority of the food I make for myself is vegan and most of my recipes are either vegan or can easily be made vegan. :-)
Jesus, great stuff, but please go back to being a caner... at the age of 45 I still hope for a rave woman to take me away to Mars...keep the faith
Hahahaha - cheers. :-)
