    I the 1960s I watched the local 99hwy as it was dug and constructed. As a child I wondered where they put all that dirt.

    Great video.
    Good old Security Paving absolutely the worst company ever. I haul dirt for the first phase of the parkway and a little bit for the overpasses, and I was in my 30s now I'm in my 40s. What happens when you give it to the lowest bidder. You look at a company called Kiewit, they not only finished the four lanes of 58 in the desert in a record time there are all so rebuilding the spillway at Oroville. Security paving is from LA Sun valley, I remember them working on The i-514 interchange and newhall pass area and that took them forever in a f****** year to finish too.

    I appreciate the aerial updates! It's a great alternative to seeing it from driving by. It appears that besides the 99/58 interchange that there are no on/off ramps between H St. and Mohawk. Is that correct?

    Awesome shots! It is so cool to see this view from above! I often see the area around Truxtun since I go to Moo Creamery a lot to watch trains and eat. I hope this gets completed soon!

    I've followed your videos for some time and truly enjoy them! But I do not see where on and off ramps for the busy Stockdale Hwy and California ave. might be. Do you know if they are going to be added?

    • @myobmyob9558
      @myobmyob9558 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will be no on/off ramps at Stockdale or California. The closest would be the ramps at Truxtun and in the opposite direction the next ramps would be at H St/Chester.

      That bird flock flying at Belle Terrace was really good timing. I didn't even see them while I was filming, it was during editing that I noticed. Thought that was super cool though. Hey, thanks again for watching and for the feedback.

    Will the 58 hwy still have an exit on stock dale or real rd?

  • @amlopez714
    @amlopez714 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello do you know if there will be an exit to Stockdale again?…..so we don’t have to exit Ming or California.

    • @myobmyob9558
      @myobmyob9558 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the official maps it appears they will block the exit at Stockdale Hwy (southbound 99 at the 58 east interchange) and also the gap in the median where the offramp allows for a left turn onto eastbound Stockdale. I don't know if that is still the plan but they haven't changed the official maps so I assume they will eventually close that exit. I hope they do change the plans and leave it open though.

    • @myobmyob9558
      @myobmyob9558 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just realized you might be asking about the northbound 99 off/onramps just south of Stockdale Hwy. on Wible.
      No. Those ramps have been permanently closed and, according to the current plans, will not be reopening. I doubt they'll change the plans when they're so close to completing the project.

  • @dougc190
    @dougc190 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I remember seeing plans for the centennial corridor being a freeway all the way to interstate 5. Now when the parkway ends there are condos among other things all in that area now and they put a roundabout in at Stockdale and 43. My guess is they just said F it and they're not going to complete it all the way.

    • @briandavis3444
      @briandavis3444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess that's the last phase. It will parallel Stockdale Highway about a mile or so south from its current terminus all the way to the 5.

    They call it the Centennial Corridor because it will take 100 years to complete. Have been in Bako forever and it seems to me that it should have been completed 50years ago when it wouldn't have been so expensive to complete.

    • @Eric-469
      @Eric-469 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That makes no sense. 50 years ago tax payers would have been paying for a freeway interchange that wasn’t needed. Entirely wasteful.

    • @charlesgehlert3632
      @charlesgehlert3632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Eric-469 You obviously have not been in Bakersfield that long or you would know that Hwy 58 connection to 99 and going west has needed to be revised since the beginning. When is it ever smart to put freeway traffic (Hwy 58) on to a local city street (Stockdale) with all the semis and travelers going west to the coast. All that is needed is some forethought by Caltrans which doesn't exist. Fifty years ago it would have cost less than a third what it is costing now.

    • @Eric-469
      @Eric-469 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charlesgehlert3632 The population in 1971 was 180,000 people. It’s 718,000 today. Highway 99 was literally Union Ave until 1963. Why would they build todays massive interchange on a 8 year old highway? It wasn’t needed. I’m not saying that better planning wouldn’t have hurt, I’m just saying _this_ was not a solution 50 years ago. It would have been a waste.

    • @myobmyob9558
      @myobmyob9558 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@guyname8760 there was a recent (Feb. 2022 IIRC) news article that said the estimated completion date of the centennial corridor mainline (the part that goes through the Westpark neighborhood) is early 2023. But they're having supply chain issues, labor shortages, etc. and those delays will probably push that date back to summer/fall. That's just my guess though.

  • @cassholloway4369
    @cassholloway4369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    People forget about Jerry Brown saying no more freeways in the 70s. That's why 58 dead ended into Real Road. Would have been less chaos if they would have built it back then. Great progress but this has been long overdue and I feel for those who lost their houses and businesses over this.

    • @dougc190
      @dougc190 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same if they had done 178 that way they were supposed to bypass the canyon... Now that think about it we can go on and on. the 710 doesn't completely go all the way among others

    • @cassholloway4369
      @cassholloway4369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If Caltrans could do 178 through the canyon like Colorado did I 70 through Glenwood canyon everything would be so much better. But things were different back then and the environmental tree huggers would have a heart attack seeing that happen.

    • @dougc190
      @dougc190 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cassholloway4369 it's just amazes me the waste you know we got four lanes on 178 and then at Democrat it was supposed to go up the mountain and then come out rancheria. I love seat tax dollars wasted no matter what year it is 🙄

    • @cassholloway4369
      @cassholloway4369 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's waste anyway we see it. My dad told me 178 was supposed to be what the Centennial corridor is now before 58 got built but everything got put on hold and yes that would be nice if we could have a freeway through the canyon like in Colorado. But this state finds new ways to waste money, kinda like the Westside Pkwy now. It ends at Stockdale and supposedly it's supposed to go to I 5 but it'll probably be another 40 years before that happens 😅
