02:04: "a locus is the position of a gene on its chromosome [...] the locus is essentially the location of that gene"
So there are parts of the chromosome that aren't genes, then?

I do not see how that is implied. The chromosome is your neighborhood. The gene, is your home. The locus, would be your address. Your home exists without your address, the address just gives a little information about how to get to your home.
