I have a 2013 Evinrude 9.8 4 stroke that’s really a tohatsu/nissan and this is exactly the same motor. I ordered the impeller kit and hope it goes as smooth as you make it look. Thx. How much oil did that take?
It's an easy fix, just remember to turn the shaft clock wise when putting the upper housing on. You don't want to get the new impeller in a bind. If I can recall I'm thinking like maybe a quart I think I can't remember. Hope this is helpful. Smash 👆 that subscribe button thanks
I don't. I went to my local marine dealer a few towns over and picked it up. Call a marine parts dealer and give them the serial number off your motor and they can tell you what you need for sure
It does not, I haven't seen one that was one direction only *yet* lol. It shouldn't matter which way you go if it's hard to knock out soak it down with something
Sir, I didn't get your name and I hope that you are ok with that. But great video and great advice! Can I ask you a quick question regarding, a Nissan 5 hp 4 stroke. This motor had sit for a while. So after getting it ready to start I noticed before I started, my water pump had been spiting out water just fine even at a steady pace before the motor was running. Meaning when I pulled the starting rope she just spit out water! Well after trying to start her and then I found a wet spark plug and also a plugged gas line she stated right up? But she didn't produce a water flow at all! I quickly shut it off and began to investigate. So you Know the prior history, this motor sat for about 5 years is there something else I should be looking for? I don't want to cook the motor so to say by running it so I am looking for advice? Thanks and a great video also!
Ok I kinda had the same problem with that myself and I took a air hose and blew in where water comes out and I managed to get lucky and it started pumping again. But from my experience if it had set for 5 years I would break down and go ahead and replace the impeller because it's probably done dry rotted...(I would sleep better if it was mine). And while you had it off look up in the water tube and make sure you have nothing clogging it. Check this video out and youI'll see what im talking about , the water pump on 28 hp th-cam.com/video/Dfh1fvMbQJg/w-d-xo.html The name is James aka(Jamie) that's not a problem lol hope this helps
You would think that but for some reason it doesn't work that way. There's not enough room in the pump housing for the impeller to get a good seal and still flex enough without extra wear on it. I had the same mind set until I wore out a brand new impeller caused from improper installation. Feel as you wish to install yours how you wish to. 👍
No the engine spins clockwise and the direction of the prop changes in the lower gear case. The water pump spins the same direction in forward and reverse. It also spins the same direction while not in gear.
thanks so much for posting this! I appreciate it! Great and to the point!
Thank you. It's just what I needed to know.

thanks, after the season I exchange in my engine
Does the motor need to be in neutral before this process ?.

You dont need to put any gasket sealer on it .
Thankyou for the video.👍👍
Do you have a part# for that impeller?
I don't. I went to my local marine dealer a few towns over and picked it up. Call a marine parts dealer and give them the serial number off your motor and they can tell you what you need for sure
Does it matter which direction you punch the pin out of the shifter linkage?

Get Some Outdoors I agree so I will do that by replacing the impeller and check out the lines that run the water too! Thank you!
@@josephcadrin any more questions just ask and I'll help any way I can. Hope this helps you. Keep me posted.
How doni get that pin out?
The pin on the shift linkage? I took a small roll pin punch and bumped it out
The ONLY hard part is getting that pin out of the shaft connector without bending the shaft and you didn't show that.😡
If your outboard has reverse the impeller would go both ways. So would think it would not matter.
