I also miss Iloilo city. The last time I went for a visit,it was 1999. My family lives in Iloilo city.
Iloilo city is called wakanda of the philippines nung pandemic because it didn't rely much on national govt. Swab test kits binili using the money of the city and provided free tests for everyone (including tourists) and also provided consistent supplies to all families.. also bought vaccines and didnt wait for the national govt.. it is also worth noting na may free dialysis center on barangays and more to come and yet still secured to be included in the top 10 richest city in the philippines.
Pre pandemic most livable city esp sa transpos, P8 student fare sa other cities, P5 student fare lang sa iloilo and convinient routes.
There are a lot of constructions on going like the rehabilitation and reconstructions of all public markets, more parks, public housing condos, beach rehabilitation, mangrove parks, community colleges traffic, police, dialysis, library, health, mental health centers, etc.
Soon a sustainable city with Ejeeps and Evehicles plus the Integrated Solid Waste Management which turns recycles waste and turning waste into energy.
Extension of safe spaces for pedestrians and bikes and more green spaces and on 2025 start ng project ng panay-guimaras-negros bridge. Other cities in panay and across region 6 are following and soon will catch to be a most livable region.
Not gonna happen until insurgency problem disappears.

Iloilo is "the ILOILO" and not the Singapore of the Philippines... I think we need to stop giving this second rate moniker to our Cities just to make it on the same pedigree with other improved Cities. ILOILO is beautiful and has a rich vibrant history that can stand on it's own.
Need to attract more tourists to come by encouraging investors to put up a first class international ports for cruise ships & upgrade & expand the present International Airport! also make Ilollo more to become industrialized by putting a special economic ZONE for factories & tech companies! if all of these succesfuly done, then we can say Iloilo is the little Singapore of the Philippines

No need to become Singapore because Iloilo is better than Singapore. Aside from modern buildings Iloilo has longer beautiful productive river than Singapore. Although Singapore has bigger financial assets they have no room to put more infrastructures because they already maximize their small land area. And the biggest advantage of iloilo against Singapore is that it grows its own food because of its productive agricultural lands which is the most stable economic asset. No amount of economic meltdown can severely cripple a very stable source of livelihood.

They have beautifully-landscaped riverside esplanades, numerous well-maintained historical parks, several kilometers of bike lanes. Not common in othwr cities of the Philippines. Bravo Iloilo.

It is easy to clean, maintain and beautify a small hut compared to a big mansion.. Iloilo is way behind Davao in terms of income, population and land area. Davao has more high rise buildings but scattered in many districts which can't be seen in one viewing. You have to travel for a day before one can cover the whole city area. Whereas iloilo skyline is concentrated in one place only and can be areas can be reached within minutes indicating how small a city it is. Remember Davao is 3 times bigger than metro manila and 6 times bigger than Cebu. I been to iloilo recently and viewing from the plane I can see how small it is compared to Davao.

We just moved out of Iloilo (Savannah, Oton) because of how run-down and dirty the city was. The schools, hospitals, shopping centers; everything was dilapidated and falling apart. Singapore of the Philippines, nakakatawang biro yan!

I will agree if they can do better with their roads and canals. Imagine the road there, you must have a good suspension. A lot of holes and open canals in the city. Plus this overpriced overpass worth 680million worth of tax payers money just to be closed after a month of operation because of vertical alignment issue due to poor engineering and most likely poor materials. Singapore is the number one financial hub in Asia surpassing HK.Singapore international Airport is one of the best in the world. Singapore employs OFWs not just Filipinos,but other races as well.Singapore has a vibrant Chinese and Indian communities.Singapore is extremely clean and literally has no panhandlers. Obviuosly,you have never touched Singapore and wants to con us Filipinos ,just to make some few pesos.ive been to Iloilo,comparing it to being the Singapore of RP is extremely ludicrous. Singapore of the Phil ang title di naman sinabi na like Singapore ang economy. It is describe as one when it comes to cleanliness and urban planning. Although development still continues. Cebu mas lalong sobrang layo, poverty in the area is very evident and many places in the city not safe to walk around. Too much traffic in a very small city highways and too crowded.

Singapore is a center of TRADE in the world, highly MODERN, highly INDUSTRIALIZED, highly DIVERSIFIED economically, has one of the biggest & most modern PORTS in the world, has the best AIRPORT in the world, and is not FLOOD prone.
Iloilo City has hardly any of those: i.e. it is not the center of trade in the Philippines, it is not the most modern city in the Phils., it is not the most industrialized city in the Phils., it doesn't have a diversified economy, it doesn't have a modern seaport, it doesn't have the best airport in the Phils., but IT IS FLOOD PRONE. Its LGU local source income is not that high and its GDP presumably is not at par with even some very progressive Philippine cities. STOP claiming all these "little" titles please. Even if we think in a "little" sense, we should be ASHAMED of ourselves if this is only thing we can put up to compare with Singapore.

With due respect ,we have been recommending ILOILO CITY as a BIOPHYLIC CITY?bringing nature closed to the hearts of every Ilonggo.Considering it has a small area and average population ,it’s easy to manage its natural resources,built and natural heritage.Now its being swarmed by tall structures ,its better to introduced Green buildings ,or green ordinance as means of promoting less Green house Gas emmision that will mitigate climate change.Results of research by UNDP all developing cities in the world are experiencing climate change,change in thermal mass temperature,and Iloilo city is included.Biophylic or Green city are similar.We have to be careful in developing every space in Iloilo city,How about sea level rise which according to Climate change action body ,sea level rise will greatly affect its elevation above sea level .By Biophylic or Green City concept are one of the best concepts towards achieving a sustainable city in the future.
Disagree with you that ILOILO CITY is small and easy to manage. Iloilo City's land area is average but its "Commercial" areas is wide. And it's "easy to manage", you said. "Easy to manage"? You must be kidding. Ilonggos are a very critical people, very discriminating, always criticizing themselves to make their city better than it is. So look at it now, because Ilonggos kept on criticizing themselves all these years. They were able to fine-tune the city. They were able to elect the best city officials, yes, after dinner many years I'd criticizing their officials until they were able to separate the "chaff from the grain".

No need to become Singapore because Iloilo is better than Singapore. Aside from modern buildings Iloilo has longer beautiful productive river than Singapore. Although Singapore has bigger financial assets they have no room to put more infrastructures because they already maximize their small land area. And the biggest advantage of iloilo against Singapore is that it grows its own food because of its productive agricultural lands which is the most stable economic asset. No amount of economic meltdown can severely cripple a very stable source of livelihood.
