A big part of Jimi's sound was his band as well and that is probably why everyone keeps "chasing the ghost" so to speak. He worked those dudes as hard as he could to get the sound he heard in his head. Studying his technique is great and all but I feel like way too few people give the band the attention they deserve. Either way Tim is a beast.
An excellent point - those drums and bass provided the perfect bed for Jimi's ensemble playing! It is part of the 'cult' of personality, hero worship we tend to be blind to the support structures!
Timur Shaitanov and the way he was trying to interpret and play White music. He emulated all the great British players he stole from beautifully. He put a great spin on the British sound.
Timur Shaitanov Also, Hendrix tuned his guitar down a half step which made those 10 gauge strings feel more like 9's or even 8's = easy bending + darker sound.
Absolutely beautiful, angelic heavenly sounds coming from Tim and Papastache. Jimi was and always will be The Chosen One for electric guitar. Thank you.
6 ppl accidentally hit the dislike button!!! love me some Brett and Tim!!! love Bretts charisma, and Tim's attention to detail.. he has so much fun while doing his thing!!
Damn Tim the opening was amazing sir. I hope I can just play 1/64 as good as you one day. I’m 4 months in and I’m a major rut. Just playing same riffs over and over don’t know where to go from where I am. And I played unplugged for too long cuz apartment complex so when I do plug in my touch is too strong because for example I slide hard to hear it unplugged but sound bad plugged in. Anyway you’re an amazing player thanks for inspiration
Got it. Better tell Tim to change the link in the description. At this point, there is no link. Yesterday, it took me to another site, which looked different. But, when you guys said, "new," I just thought I hit the correct one.
Hey Tim, love your stuff! Especially your shows with Pete. What is that copper mini wah I've seen on your board lately? It looks almost like a mini Bonamassa wah, but I don't that exists, at least not yet.
hey just wondering if one of you guys could do a video on some fast pentatonic licks using pull offs like tim demonstrated in this video instead of hitting every note as i think this is why i struggle to play fast.
Show me how that strat sounds playing the 5th & 6th strings from the 10th fret up the neck. Mine sounds really strange acoustically & plugged in, banjoish/hallow harmonic sounds. Great vid by the way, two of my favorite players...
Sounds like you're fretting out up there and may need to either raise your strings a tad or a slight truss rod adjustment is in order. I know the sound you're talking about. It can happen to any guitar but a well setup Stratocaster will sound pure as bells all the way up the neck. Edit: just saw this was a 4 year old comment! Hope you've had it straightened out before now!
Thanks, guys. I preferred Hendrix live, and he screwed up a lot, but that was part of his charm. You guys are actually better guitarists than he was ... but he had "the sound"!
Capfka Yeah, you're right: there are a great many guys (and girls!) today, who are technically(!) "better" at the guitar than Jimi was in his day, but musical personality is about so much more than just technique. You gotta be willing to take chances and when you do you sometimes fuck up - that's only natural, I guess. So there are in fact some live recordings where Jimi didn't quite nail it (drugs and booze may have been in the mix, too...), but on the other hand there are - luckily - so many live recordings where he was absolutely stellar, in complete command and "resonance" with his instrument and these are the ones which will forever justify his status as someone who largely defined what the electric guitar is all about.
Berkeley's Hear my train a-coming and Band of Gypsys' Machine Gun are in my opinion those stellar, complete command pieces of music. Been listening to those songs for two decades and they keep on hitting me deep in my soul. The reason why i started playing the guitar!
Fantastic lesson! Tim's fluidity is second to none! I've worked with so many guitarists and Tim's tone and feel is the best of them all!
I agree he is the best.
Tim. Thank-you. You are just brilliant. Everything you do, your passion, your generosity, the care you take. Fantastic
Fantastic tips Tim & Brett, you never cease to amaze me. What incredible knowledge you have Tim. Once again my fingers are sore!

Is the pick glued glued to your index finger, Tim? Loving the Journey Tee, Brett.

Beginning sounded a lot more like David Gilmour than Jimi
