A red lentil batter recipe that actually works! I honestly didn't know how this would turn out 😂 This is a great low carb recipe. I love borek so this is a good alternative. Next time to up the protein I'll try adding a tuna mixture or shredded chicken mixture using the lentil batter as the base. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback 🙏 I have already made so many bread and flatbread recipes (even sweet cupcakes) with red lentils for you to explore on the channel, if you like! This legume is just so versatile, you can use it almost like regular wheat flour for so many things 🤗
You’re welcome and thanks for the feedback 🙏 Actually, I wanted to respect the recipe of inspiration (spinach pie) that uses spinach, but actually the recipe will be great with most of green leafy vegetables! I’m glad you opted for kale, an excellent choice 👏 Glad you’ve enjoyed the recipe 🤗
I just finished making this recipe and it is delicious. I made a couple of tweaks by adding minced garlic and using parsley instead of dill (no dill on hand). I also accidentally bought ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese, but that still came out yummy. Overall it is a great recipe, the next time I make it I am going to soften the onions by sauteing them before adding them to the spinach filling. 😊❤
You did a great job with all those subtle changes 👏 Yes, definitely, you can play around with your favourite cheese, herbs or spices 👍 The recipe is simple and can be adjusted to everyone’s own liking easily 🙏🤗
I think that in addition to dried dill, I will use dried mint, and another time I'll use dried tarragon. That will be three times, each one a different flavor simply by changing the dried herb 😊
Delicious recipe & smelt soooo good while cooking. I had to reduce the qty of greens as I have kidney disease. Salad & yoghurt could be a tasty addition!! Didn’t expect lentils to work so well as a batter.
Best recipe, you're absolutely right. I love it. I didn't have any yogurt or cottage cheese so I diluted some cream cheese with vegetable broth. I've tried two of your recipes now, top notch, you rock.
Ι just love everything about this recipe.Full of goodness and sustainers for anytime of the day🎉❤. I definitely will be making it for my family and friends 😊.Thanks a lot and good day to you👍🇦🇺🦘.
You could even substitute chickpeas for lentils and I’m sure would be equally delicious. Or even use both. Certainly worth making though as very healthy and delicious.😋 😊
That looks fantastic and I am definitely giving it a try. I grow spinach so I thought of wilting it gently in a pan with the onion before adding it in. Thanks for sharing.
Oh that’s fantastic, if you can use your own grown spinach 👏 You can add as much as you want, I used the frozen version because it was easier to have a large amount ready to go 🙏 Absolutely, you need to just let it sweat for a bit before adding it to the rest 🤗
I make lentil bread, this is a genius ideas with the same batter. I used to love making boreks and Greek Arab pies but celiac disease diagnosis a year ago. I also make lentil wraps.
Well, you can make a nutritious and delicious spinach pie with green lentils too, but the texture and taste won’t be the same as this one with red lentils 🙏🤗
Just came back here to say THANK YOU. I'm always looking for modified (Middle Eastern) recipes to fit my new Weight Watchers lifestyle. Your recipe is low on WW points, but delicious and satisfying. Even better reheated this morning! Looking forward to trying more of your recipes!
I experimented with a dessert version, as I loved this version so much..😂 I added cinnamon and some maple syrup to the lentil mix. Used sliced apple sprinkled with more cinnamon between the layers of lentil mix. 👍
I used a simple immersion stick blender, left out the baking powder (forgot) and cooked the pie in my fan oven at 165° Celsius for 50 min (I made a double batch in a 35x22 cm dish, so probably slightly thicker than in the recipe). It’s absolutely delicious! Thank you! (Anybody else had lots and lots of tiny brown bits coming out of the red lentils while rinsing them? I’ll make sure I’ll always rinse them thoroughly from now on...)
Thank you for the feedback and really glad you enjoyed the recipe 💓 Yes, please, if you see dust and or impurity in your red lentils, rinse them thoroughly before soaking and after soaking 👍 The one available in my place (Canada) are clean and nice, that’s why I usually rinse them thoroughly only once soaked to eliminate the tannins and phytic acid (anti-nutrients that block mineral absorption like iron and zinc) 🙏
This came out absolutely perfect! It is delicious! Thank you! And it is very versitile. I'm sure that other fillings, like broccoli or zucchini, will come out just as good.
That’s great to know 😇 Yes, you can keep in the fridge (up to 1 week) or in the freezer (up to 3 months) and they stay fresh and tasty, particularly if you preheat before serving 🙏🥰

I don’t thing the calorie difference between cottage cheese and yogurt is that large, so that the macros in your case should be close to the ones calculated with cottage cheese here🤗
The Macros per 1 portion (of 9 total portions):
Energy: 208 calories
Protein: 10.94 g
Fat: 11.64 g
Carbohydrates: 16.58 g
Fiber: 3.3 g
What a great way to increase the protein in spanakopita. Although I love filo, this makes a great alternative.
The taste here is also so amazing, you won’t notice the difference 🙏😇
Really looking forward to trying this one!

Q: If using fresh spinach, do we have to boil it then squeeze out the water or just add it raw ? 🤔

Hi there, thank you so much for this delicious recipe. I enjoyed it but my daughter asked if I could make it with fresh chickpeas. Do you think I could substitute the red lentils with chickpeas and keep the ratio of other ingredients as they are?

Wow amazing it’s really looking delicious can I try it please keep one piece for me 😊

This looks delicious. Would an egg replacement (such as one can flax powder) work for people who are allergic to egg?
You can even skip the eggs altogether if you like. Add an extra 1/4 cup of cottage cheese or sour cream and the recipe will be good 🙏
I would like to make this but without eggs. Is there an alternative or can you omit them altogether.
Yes, you can skip the eggs and add a 1/4 cup cottage cheese or you can use an egg substitute like ‘just egg’ 🙏
Looks delicious❤
Made it with potato and onion!.
How long will the final product keep in the fridge
The pie can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months 🙏

Actually you can skip the eggs and add an extra 1/4 cup cottage cheese or Greek yogurt instead, or use an egg vegan substitute like “just egg” 🤗
Since I'm using feta for the filling, can I substitute feta for the cottage cheese?
Yes, you can use feta cheese also for the lentil batter, if that what you prefer. Just make sure you add some of the water feta cheese (if it’s not the dry version) that you can keep the right batter consistency (cottage cheese contains some liquid) 🙏
