      Creep being a very, I would say, "uncomfortable" song probably just works better when it's a little bit... unhinged. Thematically speaking. Same goes for the guitarist for example -the way he just shreds the strings angrily makes it all work in line with the song's subject.

    'Your skin makes me cry". The pain in that lyric is so deep and sad. Watched this dozens of times and just noticed how restrained and disciplined the bass and drums are. While the singing and guitars are going manic, they stay in their lane and provide a much needed balance to the song. That is truly great musicianship.

      I don't think they hated it. They just hated that it threatened to make them a one hit wonder, as back then I believe it was the only song anyone asked about or wanted to hear. They wanted to be more than that, and so developed a disliking to playing the song live. These days they play it again, as they are a long way from a one hit wonder band now and so it does not threaten them.

    • @macfilms9904
      @macfilms9904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      From interviews with Thom, it has more to do with the fact that when he wrote the song he felt this way- he had a crush on a beautiful woman at his college, but felt he couldn't even talk to her. Later, with this song a huge hit, they played their college town & he spotted her up front singing along - she had no idea the song was about her. He said that he no longer felt the way he did when he wrote the song, so there was a period where he wasn't interested in playing it. It's also probably because this song is pretty uncharacteristic for them as a band, having that (Pixies) Nirvana feel of quiet/loud dynamics - when bands are starting out, producers and labels will push for that 'hit single' no matter what - and even when it is a hit, it may not be the band's favorite.

    This utterly encapsulates my adolescence. It just SUCKED. I'm amazed I made it through. It's very triggering when I hear this song done by them. The pain is so visceral and so satisfying to hear the basic animal truth burst outof him. This performance is amazing.

    I think this is my favorite version of his song, it ripped my heart out and left it on the floor

    Bought the Creep single on cassette tape back in 93 when I was 12. One of my earliest music purchases that I bought and not my parents. Pablo Honey is a great album.

    In Utero was released the day before this. More things happened in rock between 91-93 then in the last 20 years.

    Wow!😀 What a great performance from the whole band! Thom so animated, energetic & blonde, held that note for what seemed eternity 3:10 !
    Johnny thrashing his guitar like a death metal fiend. I loved the '90s, we were lucky with so many great new UK bands in each decade.🎵
    ~ Radiohead still goes on , we need them more than ever in 2021. 💕🐱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
