$35 it'd make a solid commuter. Not a racing bike, more like a 70s-era bike-boom bike. Wide tire and fender clearance, ideal Oregon commuter!
That Rob English guy races too. He has some insane recumbent records, but he also has an insane recumbent.
I like dumb tech, regular sunglasses, sometimes even mechanical shifting! I think AI can help plan routes and make training more efficient. Beyond that, it seems like it's duplicative of existing tech.

I love technology, but riding bikes already involves me having to remember more things than I'm comfortable with. I've just gotten to the point where I don't routinely forget something critical every time I go out for a big day on the bike on Saturdays. If I start adding all kinds of smart garbage, it's just going to be a bunch of dead battery rubble like two weeks after I buy it.

I bought the Bose sport sunglasses with Bluetooth. You can hear and even take a phone call. I have a quad lock on my phone case and use that as my navigation. And my Spotify or whatever TH-cam is hooked up via Bluetooth to my glasses. I did not like riding with earbuds even the transparent ones blocked too much car noise. The sunglasses allow you to hear the sounds and the music and the phone call. I also use them on solo hikes and you can change out the lenses. I got some clear lenses for darker times :)
I have enjoyed the "shox" headphones for similar use. Have you ever tried them?
How is the quad lock working out for you? Does it damage the stabilisation of the camera? Do you have any clue if its better than the mous lock for phones? Seems a lot cheaper than getting a garmin
@@Caunion7the quad lock is good. Mainly because the case is unobtrusive when not using on the bike. I have it on all of my bikes. The case is stout
I just use JBL Go. In my back pocket. Some music, still hear traffic. Less £££. All my £££ went into buying a bike. Not everybody can afford tech.

Dam I might just buy those hope brakes for my sram rival axs on my gravel lauf seigla I treat like a mtb with my 180mm front and rear sram rotors I already have on it and my new sparrow berd wheels(rope spokes) for the chunky trails
One of the things I love about cycling is getting away from tech and just enjoying the outdoors even if I don’t know where I’m going and I’m riding a full carbon ebike with a heart rate monitor governing the available watts plotting my route with my smart phone 😅
Probably be better if it was built into a visor on a helmet, put all the weight and bulk in the lid, keeping the glasses more "normal" keep the vids coming mate👍🚴♀️🏴
I only go with basic tech, a Garmin Edge 530, a USB rechargeable Lezyne taillight, and my phone for that just in case emergency moment. I actually went backward with my choice of road bike, 1986 Specialized Allez SE steel frameset with 2012 Shimano 10 spd Tiagra groupset, 1997 Profile BRC carbon fork w/ an aluminum 1" steerer, and 2013 Fulcrum Racing Quattro wheelset. There really wasn't anything wrong with my full carbon Masi w/ Ultegra build, but something about riding a retro build just feels simple and chill.
Cant wait for these to get better. These are so cool. I wish it had a map you could toggle off to the side. Or arrows that pop up and show you the way. Making biking like video game HUDs is a fun options.
Should give the Rayban/Meta glasses a try - can take photos, record 60 second videos, and play music. Also look like normal glasses
I love my Rayban Metas when I ride. Video, photos, voice nav, music. I’d expect next gen to include HUD.
I think these might be handy for commuters as an alternative to a video camera like a GoPro.
I would definitely ride with something like that if they were as comfortable as my current riding glasses and weren't distracting. I'd love to have a HUD rather than a head unit, personally, but it sounds like we need to wait a while longer for the tech to fully mature.
I do think they can be really cool if we can figure out the thickness. Also I hate AI in everything, but I could see a benefit in “smart” products.
Think of being able to upload training to your glasses/ computer allowing you to see your current interval and the goal as you are progressing to it. Hydration/ fueling alerts, overall splits.
To me that would be cool fun to haves, but I’m a guy that runs a 89 cannondale road bike on flats, no computer besides my phones Strava, and athletic clothes 😂
Riding gives me a break from all the tech. I do have a Strava account, but I like to tune out and focus on the task at hand. I don’t want to have to charge batteries to make my bike go, or shift, or make my saddle raise or lower. I’ve got steel, aluminum, and carbon frames, but I’m hesitant to buy another plastic bike. I really just like going on my big dumb desert rides and putting in eight or ten hours of type two fun. Sometimes it’s good to ride solo all day and go into and out of the pain cave.

The MK1 version of most things isn't perfect. But I'm looking forward to seeing how the tech progresses.
HUD-equipped glasses would be rad.
It's Mandarin in the system language, if you ever need a PDX local to help navigate to language setting menu let me know :) But this thing does seem to have lots of room for improvement, integration with bike computer would be a very promising idea.

AR glasses are getting better but still have a long way to go... meanwhile I just want sub $2000 electronic shifting and power meters! 😂
You wish is granted. Apex AXS is close to $1k and there's a $250 power meter that's perfectly accurate.
To me, I like to disconnect when I'm riding. I work in tech, my house is full of tech. When I'm riding, I want to be in the ride, the landscape nothing else. Now I just need to get some KOMs and upload my ride to Strava.
The great thing about not cycling since my teens, and starting up 20 years later is that I got 20 years of bike tech to catch up on
Apple does this with the watch and the iPhone, I’m looking forward to seeing this kind of tech move forward as google is working on AR. I’d love a google AR headset with a Garmin api that displays the data as you go. The Meta ray and are great for everything except displaying data. That’s the next hoop.

I think AI is already making a significant impact/contribution on coaching - I use an AI driven training program that claims, and seems to, adjust my next workout to what I actually do and don't do and more importantly, my availability.
I'd say AG is more like "argumentative reality" ;)

I used free ride with no head unit and only in the last few years have started using a head unit. I will be the last for AI and will probably revert back to free ride.

AI, like big bike’s push for everything proprietary, is garbage. You can take your disc brakes, aero seat posts, and integrated handle bars and shove them up where your wife’s boyfriend doesn’t dare venture but you wish he did ❤

Personally, if I was out all day, I'd be more concerned with preserving my phone battery, but that might just be my own old phone, old battery issue.
It is. Google Pixel 8 Pro can do 200 miles of road with headphones. Quick charge during the day if it's 200 miles of gravel.

"AI everything" is a massive bubble bound to burst, the actually interesting AI applications are buried under a mountain of undercooked chatbot garbage with no real-world use and horrible implementations.
Once these get bone conduction audio, things are getting serious…but still seriously weird.
Nope. I like less tech stuff. I prefer mechanical things like film cameras, bikes and (older) vehicles. I don’t own a laptop or use the AI stuff.
But with that said, I am watching your videos on my iPhone 12. 😐

@@EverythingsBeenDone The Fast Old Racer for $35. Downtube friction shifters, shitty cantilever brakes that barely slow you down, skinny tires and a leg punishing group set for hill climbing. It's the vintage vinyl collection of bikes; super impractical compared to modern alternatives, but imbued with nostalgia that prevents you from noticing the problems.

SRAM and Shimano brakes are both great but 2 piston does not equal 4 piston. Plus anodized purple!
