Why do I always get this rich aristocratic Victorian lady like vibe when ever I see you Pearl,Oh will you please vanquish my suspicions on that? Please.😁😁😁😁😁😁
I'll be honest. Japanese people are overall nicer than Chinese. Maybe it's just me, most likely is. I also notice *in my exp* Japanese roommates like to keep where they live clean. My Chinese roommates don't seem to mind a semi dirty kitchen/bathroom. One roomie even complained to the weekly cleaning lady that she didn't do a good job when she came. o.O I bought a squigie for the bathroom floor to clean the water on the floor. Aside from me and my gf that uses it sometimes, the other 3 roomies never use it. They just let the floor be wet after using the shower. :(
Actually, most people watch till the end, but your audience retention is like 40% or lower because some people click away after 1 second (misclick or spooked by Japanese language on an English title). Your 85% viewers that are not subscribed is a great sign! It means TH-cam is recommending your videos to people other than your subscribers and they are interested and click the thumbnail :) Just remind people to like the video and ask a question, so people can write a comment under the video. Comments and likes are the most important tools that the TH-cam bot uses to decide if your video rocks or sucks. I'm going to move to France soon (not really, in 1 year) and I need to learn the language. I will apply your techniques to learn the basics.
These are great tips! Almost all my videos have the same issue with retention where 70% of the audience has left after 30 seconds. But maybe that common for TH-cam or these types of videos. The subscription rate used to be 70% and it just dropped lower and lower. There are quite a few regular viewers that forgot to sub and they miss all the new videos with a lower click-through rate because TH-cam doesn’t put it on their homepage. Almost all of my views come from browse features.
I'm studying Chinese but TH-cam recommended your video and I paused it after only 15 seconds to check the comments and decide whether it's worth my time to watch more
Here’s some tips for beginners (I use these): 1. Watch Children’s shows: When your starting out Japanese don’t watch Japanese news for more learning. They will use very complex words that will be difficult. Instead watch educational shows for kids. They talk more basically then things made for older people. 2. Label Objects: labeling objects is really fun and helps you out. Get index cards and go around the house and start labeling things like door, window, bed, bookshelf, television, etc. Trust me, it’s a HUGE help. Put a romaji translation on the bottom also. 3. Japanese Dictionary: personally at night I like to go to the Japanese dictionary and created sentences. Then I say them out loud. It’s really fun, I also like recording myself.

When I need a break from hardcore studying, I switch to Japanese songs, movies, or TH-cam lessons. That way I can give my brain a rest without feeling too bad about it 😂
Songs are a really important part of study. Our brain can remember things in song much much better. For example the alphabet song. Or how you can somehow remember lyrics from a song you haven't heard in 10 years. So, if you listen to a song until you memorised it, and pair the translation/meaning to the words, you have essentially learnt all those words and recalling it/understanding its context is a lot easier. I learnt majority of my words from music when I first started studying and I still recall the song I learnt it from to this day. For any language I couldn't recommend it more.
@@catmerchant8699 Yup. Memorizing songs is something I have always done super quickly. Music has been an important part of my whole life. Thanks for sharing. As a 3rd generation Canadian Japanese, it's cool to see this. Unfortunately my native tongue was not passed down to me out of fear, due to the poor treatment of Canadian Japanese in the internment camps. Maybe one day I will aspire to learn my native tongue and also learn about my native culture/traditions. Keep doing what you do.
Finally took the plunge after watching your videos to sign up for Japanese lessons at the local university on the side of work, and signed up to Japanese Pod 101 :)! I already made a friend on Hello Talk who i talk with but they have to speak so much english for me. I look forward to learning the language and being able to speak back to them and understand what they are saying :)!
I’ve always had an interest in learning Japanese, so I bought a kanji textbook a couple of years back that I recently looked at for the first time. I know I won’t learn the entire language from it, but I figure it wouldn’t hurt to learn kanji as a hobby/for fun. Going to hit the book now and get off TH-cam (yes, I was still watching 😆). Hope to be able to speak Japanese/Chinese one day too, just like you. Congrats! ❤
Came here from a Tkyosam video. I really appreciate that you do your videos in Japanese. I have had a strong desire to learn this language from a very young age. Your videos give me a chance to immerse myself in the language, which is what I was really looking for to take my comprehension skills to the next level. I look forward to seeing more content!
i really love this type of content from you, sharing true experiences and your progression in learning language. i've been studying non-stop for 6 months and finally decided to take JLPT next month. my progress is sometimes overwhelming and sometimes rather declining but nevertheless progressing. but when times get frustrating and difficult, i look back to videos such as yours to get back up so please keep uploading :D
Very inspirational stuff. I can only imagine the frustration you had at the beginning and then you moved to Japan?! Kudos. I feel your strength! I’m Greek by the way so English is not my mother language but ever since I watched your videos I really want to invest into Japanese. Ja na!! P.s. totally agree on paying for lessons. It sets the mood for some serious learning.
I’m also in China now and have been here for more a year. I’ve already passed HSK-5 and plan on taking HSK-6 next year while also keeping up with my major i.e 汉语国际教育, in midst of all this I still am trying my best to learn Japanese myself. Whenever I feel like I’m about to give up I just watch your videos to keep myself motivated because it’s my dream to go to Japan.
For an intelligent person like you who did a great job at Mandarin / Chinese, I'm not surprised that you'd be good at Japanese too. Still very impressive.

Hello Sister. How are you? Good to see you after long days ❤️❤️❤️. Really appreciate your hardwork. Your videos always amazing and u are one of my favourite youtuber ❤️. Keep it up 🙏
I was on and off with learning Japanese since I was 16. I never got over the basics. But then I picked it up about a year and a half ago, after I moved to the US and waited for my work authorisation. 😂 I looked more seriously into verb conjugation, grammar, watched TH-cam videos, listened to japanesepod101 podcasts every morning and I still do so now on my way to work and back. I learned kanji more through just writing full sentences down instead of trying to memorize them. I improved so much in that time! Since a few weeks I also visit a Japanese teacher once a week and we talk about different topics and that helped SO MUCH with talking! My current goal is to confidently pass JLPT N4 mock tests and then get up to N3. Step by step!

I have been studying Japanese since I was 15, I am almost 18 and I am working on N2 now! Even though I have made a lot of progress my grammar leaves a lot to be desired (the JLPT doesn't test really that much). I also think people don't know how hard it is, this is why you need a fantastic motivation to do it. 😊
Thanks Anming, I’ve been waiting for this video, it’s really good. I’m reassured by the fact, that you said you found Japanese difficult, I really do, especially listening, but you’ve reassured me, I’ll use hello talk and study more!
That’s awesome that you’re going to give HelloTalk a try. If you want to meet people there use the search features and start sending many private messages. Invite people to be your friend and practice with you.
This video is really amazing. Your accent and pace of speaking Japanese is very helpful for me as a native speaker of English. I didn't understand everything without the subtitles, but I did understand some of it, and the way you made eye contact and your energy kept me trying. Maybe it's because I'm from California but you seem a bit lovably goofy and like my kind of people so it just makes your content very engaging. Fun is the best way to learn. And you 100% seem to be doing that in Japan, which keeps me motivated to study! 日本語はとても難しいです。でも、面白いです! Keep on making these amazing videos... thanks so much 先生
Omg, I could not. And now that I’ve been learning Japanese, it makes it kind of hard to watch subtitles, because my brain goes “oh, I know this.” The sentence structure of English and Japanese are different so I’ll hear the end of the sentence before I read it fully.
I feel you, Anming. Just like you, I have a base in Chinese (Mandarin) when I started Japanese (self learning) last year. At least 50 hours workweek, the mind is already tired to stay motivated to study after dinner; hours of isolating myself having to decline all the fun social activities. Saluted your discipline to master two extremely difficult languages.
Happy Holidays, Hope you and all your followers have a blessed one , filled with happiness and cheer surrounded by family and friends, Hope we all end the year on a positive. and look forward to a great New Year
I remember talking with you on hellotalk once! Your videos are great! I wanted to ask in Japanese one word can have different meanings based on the context. How did you overcome this for listening.
You have a great accent and speaking style, so well done. I've been to Japan 3 times and I know what its like, to be there in the moment, speaking to people. It's an amazing feeling and post COVID, I will be taking a trip again in the future.
I have been blessed with opportunities to learn bits and pieces of several languages, although I only speak American fluently. I am able to read and speak a tolerable amount of Spanish, a little German, some Italian, very little Greek, a few words in Hebrew, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian, and a few phrases in Japanese. I have a few friends and acquaintances that speak some of these languages and we pick on each other in them as practice. I am very impressed with your range of knowledge. I have watched an American male that goes to the various Chinatown's across the US and orders food at the restaurants, in English. Then at some point he will ease up to speaking fluent Mandarin or Hunan, and even a few other dialects. Thank you for sharing and including your teaching videos.
It is thanks to people like you (and others) living in Japan that I wanted to start learning this language. I bought books, but I never really got into them. 2 months ago, I finally started taking private lessons with a teacher (haifu) to study seriously. I hope to be able to visit in 2-3 years, I am not trying to speak fluently, but I want my experience in Japan to be the best!
@@OrientalPearl I have also tried with many videos on TH-cam. But speaking the language with the teacher and writing exercises for the next lesson are very useful ! Hope to see you in Japan next year! :D
Familiar music definitely helped me understand it a little more. I listen to a lot of 80s and I was surprised to find japanese adaptations of them and many other songs especially from Masayoshi Takanaka. Of course it is not much as I'm only starting out, but I'll see how far I can get.

I know it becuse living 4 months in England gave me way more (including confidence) than years of learning English in grade school and high school.
currently studying to read manga, watch anime and go to japan without looking for translation i love your channel I'm from PH
Thank you so much! I hope you reach your goals!
I'm Brazilian and I'm learning English and Japanese on my own, I love watching ur videos and I've learned a lot watching them, thanks for the quality content!!
Strong and inspirational video today Anming. Thank You!
Yeah i'm still watching! You really are inspiring. I'm studying, getting frustrated many many times, but like you said just keep going!
Never give up!
Your dedication to learning languages is amazing. I love watching your conversations with regular people in your videos.
I'd love to see you learning and speaking Hangul next. Your language skills are mind blowing!!!
I would love to learn Korean next here in Japan.
That’s so cool! Congrats!
Thank you for sharing your experience and providing guidance/motivation in this video!
Everybody needs some motivation every once and awhile. I used to use TH-cam for inspiration and it worked.
Thank you Anming for making this video. I am a health care worker and I watch your videos at lunch time. It's so nice to get a break from all the pandemic stress and just watch something educational and entertaining. Yes I would certainly watch a video about why Japanese is harder then Chinese. I am taking your advice and also listening to japanesepod101.com and yes I watched your video to the very end!!! Good Job!
Thank you for making this video! I am a beginner in Japanese and I appreciate your tips!
Thanks for watching! I hope it helps you. We both started from the same spot.
Thank you for the video! Looking forward to the series.! And I am sure that this is also helping you to keep speaking Japanese. 💕
Yes, I’d like to do more videos speaking mainly Chinese and Japanese.
Anming is the coolest person on youtube that I know because she really cares about her audience. She reads every single comment, and even interacts with us! Thanks for being my favorite Japanese TH-camr, always a pleasure to see your videos come across my feed :-)
Thanks so much! There are so many Japan-based TH-camrs. I’m proud to be your favorite. 😊
Hi!! im from Argentina, im studing japanese and watching your videos im also improving my english skills so thank you so much!!
Watching right now. Here to support . Please dont skip ads guys :)
For years I watched youtube to support creators without skipping ads but recently they made it unwatchable without an adblocker.
If they revert back to something reasonable I'll remove my adblocker.
Thank you!
I dont have ads because i use premium youtube
I seriously admire how you speak 3 languages so well your really amazing your video literally make me want to get up and start learning something new good luck to you
anming: "hit the books! why are you watching youtube?"
me: "......'
I looked at my books and said 'later' 😂
You’re a constant source of inspiration - I start in the New Year..! ありがとうございました 🙏🏼
honestly, at this point if freaked me out more when she started speaking fluent english.
Thank you, Anming! As someone trying to learn Japanese, I appreciate your insights. Japanese grammar and vocabulary can be difficult to learn for English speakers, but I will keep trying. Your videos are inspiring! あリガとございました。
It's great that you decided to make this video... I love the video so much!
Thanks for the encouragement! Now to go back to it.
I just downloaded the app and i already found someone who is willing to help me. Im also currently subscribed in japanese pod for the last 2 months. Thank you! 😁
That was fast! You already found someone! Nice work.
Hey Anming, just wanna say you're incredible, I found out your channel a couple days ago and I'm obsessed with your videos already. I love learning languages as well, I'm almost fluent in english, and Japanese is one of my target language, which I started learning in the age of 12 I guess, but then stopped 😔. Hope to be able to speak Japanese/Chinese one day too, just like you. Congrats! ❤
Thanks so much! Your comment is encouraging. I’m glad you found the channel and that it’s helping you.
Thanks so much! That’s something you, Sam, and I all have in common. We like when people speak Japanese.
I still learning nihon go, soon i'll come to japan, especially tokyo
Hopefully i can see you there
i really love this type of content from you, sharing true experiences and your progression in learning language. i've been studying non-stop for 6 months and finally decided to take JLPT next month. my progress is sometimes overwhelming and sometimes rather declining but nevertheless progressing. but when times get frustrating and difficult, i look back to videos such as yours to get back up so please keep uploading :D
I’m so glad that these videos are helping to keep you motivated!
For an intelligent person like you who did a great job at Mandarin / Chinese, I'm not surprised that you'd be good at Japanese too. Still very impressive.
Love your videos and at 68 have started to relearn what I've forgotten...To many years of not speaking hurts..I've learned quit a bit of Vietnamese having worked around them...but again once no one is around....TY...I'll keep watching for your motivation
You are amazing! 68 and still driven to learn!
Hello Sister. How are you?
Good to see you after long days ❤️❤️❤️.
Really appreciate your hardwork.
Your videos always amazing and u are one of my favourite youtuber ❤️.
Keep it up 🙏
Ha ha, I didn’t go anywhere. I’ve been here the whole time posting videos.
I was on and off with learning Japanese since I was 16. I never got over the basics. But then I picked it up about a year and a half ago, after I moved to the US and waited for my work authorisation. 😂
I looked more seriously into verb conjugation, grammar, watched TH-cam videos, listened to japanesepod101 podcasts every morning and I still do so now on my way to work and back.
Este video fue igual de nostálgico que el anterior. Sigue creciendo!! :D
Volviste. Mucho tiempo sin verte.
@@OrientalPearl wait what, how much spanish do you know girl?
Thank you so much!!
嬉しいですよ。本当ありがとうございます。
Thank you so much for making video... Now M so inspired for learn Javanese by u 💪❤😘
I'm currently trying to learn Japanese and it is challenging and fun. Content like yours and other people abroad in Japan keep me motivated.
I’m really happy to hear that because I want to encourage more people to study Japanese.
You got into university after 3 years of studying? That's amazing
Very inspirational !
Keep up the good work 😃
honestly, i follow you for the Japanese content! thanks!
That's great! Since I live in Japan there will be lots more of that.
WOW! You’re amazing. Just happened to come across your channel and out of curiosity viewed them. ここまで日本語をお上手に話せるなんって凄すぎてす。一生懸命学べてる姿はとて魅力です、頑張ってください。
Thank you, I’m going to start studying Japanese winter break :)
And if anyone wants to learn Japanese there is a great TH-cam channel in Spanish Yuyu Nihongo, I think he explains things really well
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and finally decided to do some courses thanks to you!! 💛
been studying alot for the last 4/5 months now and god damn its hard, its my first time learning another language but i wont give up
I have been studying Japanese since I was 15, I am almost 18 and I am working on N2 now!
Even though I have made a lot of progress my grammar leaves a lot to be desired (the JLPT doesn't test really that much). I also think people don't know how hard it is, this is why you need a fantastic motivation to do it.
😊
That rising tone at 2:12 sounds like a Japanese commercial. (Based on The Simpsons' Mr. Sparkle episode. It's the only one I know).
Invite people to be your friend and practice with you.
i clicked on this so fast , i have been struggling with my learning 🥺😤but i hope this works , i bet it will cause your goooood !!❤️
I learned Japanese while watching anime.
Yeah! it was my catalyst as well🤙✌🤖
Same
I recommend you to also practice with japanese people, since the way they talk in anime is not the same as in real life.
Omg, I could not.
And now that I’ve been learning Japanese, it makes it kind of hard to watch subtitles, because my brain goes “oh, I know this.”
The sentence structure of English and Japanese are different so I’ll hear the end of the sentence before I read it fully.
Sure
You did a fantastic job oriental pearl. Keep up the good work. Much love muah.

I respect you as a fellow hard worker.
I think it is important to learn the Japanese mannerism as well.
Happy Holidays, Hope you and all your followers have a blessed one , filled with happiness and cheer surrounded by family and friends, Hope we all end the year on a positive. and look forward to a great New Year
I made it to the end of video bcause i really like Japanese accent and i want to learn speaking Japanese too
🌞🌞 I have been self-teaching myself Japanese for like 8 months now so hearing you speak like that is my dream thank you!
日本語上手いっすね!
僕も中国語と英語を話せるようにがんばります〜
すごいです。頑張ってくださいね。
@@AniGrannyOG Sounds great. I believe you’ll master Japanese👍🏻
@肉肉 Why do you introduce him to me? Is he your favorite historical person?
@肉肉 この人のこと、初めて知りました。今度少し調べてみます
Im so happy your channel is getting bigger.😊😊😊 keep it up.がんばってください
It’s all thanks to you and the others.
I remember talking with you on hellotalk once! Your videos are great! I wanted to ask in Japanese one word can have different meanings based on the context. How did you overcome this for listening.
No way! That's so cool. I don't get many people from hellotalk commenting on my videos. This is really rare.
You have a great accent and speaking style, so well done. I've been to Japan 3 times and I know what its like, to be there in the moment, speaking to people. It's an amazing feeling and post COVID, I will be taking a trip again in the future.
Dayumn, 日本語上手 yo
I would love to teach you American Sign Language
I loved this Anmimg. Your content is so uplifting and don’t worry I always watch until the end! 😊 love from Ireland x
Thank you Ireland!
It seems you have heard of Stephen Krashen and his second language acquiring theory ... speaking of 200 language partners.
I've only heard about him through Matt's channel.
Books can be quite boring. The audio lesson route might be better for you.
@@OrientalPearl I have also tried with many videos on TH-cam.
But speaking the language with the teacher and writing exercises for the next lesson are very useful !
Unfortunately, I know a lot of people cannot afford private lessons with a teacher, but the motivation is there when you want to learn a language. :-)
When I lose motivation in my Japanese studies I listen to Band-Maid and I am charged again! 😁 btw thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you! Yes, you motivate me to study Japanese. I'm currently on Duolingo and Japanesepod101, for free. I study Japanese only on the side as I am still studying for my board exams this year. After passing the boards, I plan to take up actual Japanese language classes. Keep the videos coming! おめでとうございます。
That’s great that you’re using Japanesepod101 now!
I started being interested in Japanese because of Anime 😊☺
omg I use japanesepod101 too I like how they have so many videos for different video. I loved you video today, it makes me feel good then you said you listened to japanesepod101, i felt that if you saw them too then I could get as good at Japanese , thank you
I love Japanesepod101. I’m glad you’re enjoying it too.
Thanks, Anming! I'm currently learning Japanese and without a doubt, videos of Westerners speaking fluent Japanese (and specially your videos) always top up my motivation! So massive thanks for continuing to produce more and more videos, and on interesting topics and with interesting locals!
Thanks also for the JapanesePod101 recommendation, which has been great - wish it had been my first resource. Although Duolingo has became revolutionary since I started typing my answers (rather than just ordering the 'word blocks'), especially since you get instant feedback. Hope to see you in Japan next year! :D
I used Japanesepod101 for like 2 or 3 years. They have some really hilarious audio lessons.
Familiar music definitely helped me understand it a little more. I listen to a lot of 80s and I was surprised to find japanese adaptations of them and many other songs especially from Masayoshi Takanaka. Of course it is not much as I'm only starting out, but I'll see how far I can get.
ありがとうございます!You really inspire me and help me stay motivated to learn Japanese 😊
Listen to you makes me want to learn languages again. Thank you very much for these videos.
That’s so wonderful!
You have helped me alot with trying to be motivated and continue with learning as i would like to become fluent in the future , thank you so much!
I really like all your videos but i am really inspire from you that you speak other language so fluently i am learning English language and i always see your videos and think i can also learn language and get fluent like you God bless you
I am currently learning both French and Japanese. It has been 7 months now and I do see some improvements. I will become fluent in Japanese in 3 years. Excellent video, I enjoyed watching it.
