Hi Nathan! I'm so glad that you liked this one. I put a lot of extra thought and effort into it. Looking forward to seeing you in just a few weeks in Japan.
This makes me feel so relieved. I have been studying Korean, and it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to do as an adult. I have a science brain, never really had a natural talent for languages, but I’m slowly improving every day.

As someone currently learning Korean after perfecting Tagalog-and I am sure Pearl never intended to imply otherwise- this is an extremely intensive and straining way of learning a language. I won't speak to the effectiveness of this particular method as I am sure the only way I'd know is if I tried it myself, and as Pearl is really exceptional at learning languages this may be more effective for her than others. But for anyone who wants to learn Korean, the language is all about steady retention. Grammar in Korean is wildly tough to get a grasp of. Now, this is rather ironic, but as an example, in Korea there are academies that have children getting as little as 4 hours of sleep a day because they do almost nothing but studying. This is all done for pure memorisation so they can pass a series of exams. But the actual learning retention is really poor, because they just don't actually absorb most of what they're remembering. This is the same problem when trying to fast-track a language, especially one like Korean. Repetitiveness is definitely the key for me so far. Pearl is absolutely right with her concluding thoughts at the end of the video. There is no 30-day or 60-day or 100-day railroad to learning languages like this. Good luck, everyone!
Repetition was immensely useful for me earlier on using Japanese, even though now im good enough at it that i dont need anki or any other form of repetition, I know im gonna be needing a whole lot of it when i eventually start Korean. Heck, maybe I'll find that I actually missed the process of being new to a language.
reminds me of learning to play a music instrument, takes about 6 months of (almost) everyday practice to get to solid beginner, advanced beginner to intermediate level at 1 year, but at least 3 years of playing for an advanced intermediate level, going past that stage takes natural talent, and another 2-3 years to make it to advanced, the small % of people who make it to 1 year plateau there, and an even smaller % advance past that stage - I started at 9 and play several music instruments, also taught many beginning players, I made it to advanced with only 1 instrument, prob because I formally studied it at university, getting close to advanced on a second instrument rn, also found that resuming intense practice in middle age (40s) after not playing anything for almost 20 years, was improving my mental health, wonder if learning a new language does that too!?
Learning Korean on and off for the last 12 years, as a hobby, I have noticed a couple of things; I always level up after spending time there and to help memorize and recognize words in spoken Korean (probably the same with other languages), you have to use those words, frequently, yourself, to recognize them in the listening process.

Yes! Most people don't realize how much time and effort is necessary for language learning. A friend of mine at university was concentrating on early modern European history. For research, she had to have a reading knowledge of French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, not just in their modern forms but those of the 15th-17th centuries. She said once, "I'm always studying," even during breaks and vacations. But she loved it, so it didn't seem like a chore.
So Awesome 💪💪💪 thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!! Heading back to China, Guangxi region in the next few months and plan on pushing myself to continue Learning Mandarin
This reminds me of when Steve Kauffman studied Korean. It seemed like he was expecting his knowledge of Japanese and Chinese to help him progresss faster, but he didn't seem sastisfied at the end of his studies. I still would love to go to another country and intensively study for a month, although in my case it would probably be to study to improve my Cantonese or Vietnamese, but I may learn Korean someday.

I studied Korean and Japanese for 4 years in college as a major & minor but I still think I’m not fluent in both languages. It was fun to see your studies and visit to Korea, An Min. Though, I have to ask, was one of the male performers at the cultural village break dancing? Cuz it really looked like it. Also, I've been teetering on studying Old English, and been a bit shy about committing to it. After seeing how dedicated you are to Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, I'm encouraged to just go for it. Thank you so much for sharing our adventures.
This is a great example to show that you can always catch up after falling behind for whatever reason. But it takes hard work and dedication to make it happen! It can be done and anyone can do it!
Korean is challenging for sure because of the grammar and the levels of formality in speaking. If it still had Chinese characters it would be just as hard as Japanese.

Exactly! People don’t realize how much time it takes everyday.
So Awesome 💪💪💪 thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!! Heading back to China, Guangxi region in the next few months and plan on pushing myself to continue Learning Mandarin
I’m so glad that these videos motivate you. Enjoy China! I love Guilin, it’s so pretty.
Yeah, knowing Chinese and Japanese helps a lot, but it isn’t a ticket to fluency in Korea. You still have to put in the study time.

@@xohyuu yes, Korean, Japanese, and Korean share a lot of cognates, cultural references, and idioms. That’s just like an English speaker will have an easier go learning Romance languages than a Sinitic language. But in the final analysis there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Wow... Simply amazing how much time and effort you put in learning Korean. You are an amazing person, my daughter loved the dress you were wearing at the end (Korean dress).
That's why you can learn so much different languages: You're never give up 😤🔥🚀
Have a great weekend and keep on pushing these boundaries but please do not neglect your health 🙏🏽💪🏽
Thank you! I won’t give up.
Now i'm hooked to your channel as i teach English to japanese nationals and koreans are one of my best friends in the Philippines!!! Now you got me!!! This is wild and the fact that your videos are soooo clear and makes us see the streets of both korea and japan!! Your videos take my breath away!!
I really admire your determination to challenge and conquer something so difficult as learning a new language in a foreign country. Also, thank you for sharing the links/code to Sakura and TokyoTreat. I've been meaning to look for a service like this. I just got back from a trip to Japan/Korea and brought back a lot of snacks, but I know they won't last too long! I'll need to replenish my supply of snacks before I can get to go back! 😅
I’m glad that you like the snacks. I often send them to my family as gifts.
Dedicated and inspiring! 💫 Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures and joy. You will be to “1000+” in a flash!
I didn’t start from zero. I learned Korean for about a year before doing this. I only knew about 1,500 words starting the homestay.
The Korean language is unique in its tone with specific meaning which certain tones having similarity and meaing to ancient mixed chinese dialect. Through many centries it developes into very specific tones and writings.
You're amazing, so inspirational ❤
I studied Korean and Japanese for 4 years in college as a major & minor but I still think I’m not fluent in both languages. I learned by book and a little experience because my teachers are natives of both languages. I think maybe it’s time to do learning by experience too. I wanted to be a FL teacher. I became more inspired to learn more languages because of you 😊 Thank you for sharing your experiences.
College classes are hard because the class size is so big. If you can make get a private tutor to help out in addition to your classes, it would help a lot.

Very impressive Anming. ❤
Thank you so much!
Love your videos and very happy to see you trying to learn Korean, I have lived in Korea for 2 years and being a american I understand but happy to see you in korea
Omggg ive learned korean ever since i was born because my mother would teach me it growing up, god i remember the pain of sitting at the table. BUT YOU GOT THIS!!
It has been a lot easier knowing Chinese and Japanese first.
Your determination is so inspiring, I always feel motivated after watching them. They're so fun to watch, thank you! Tommy saying "yayyyy" over and over killed me 😭
Ha ha, that was actually the host father saying yeah.
@OrientalPearl oh, I'm sorry! I was kinda tired when I watched it, I must've glossed over during that part 🤣
Alyssa, you are very talented in Japanese and Chinese languages now Korean wow, I can see one day possibly Vietnamese language too.
I can’t wait to start learning Vietnamese!
That's probably the hardest to learn
@@OrientalPearl We can't wait to follow you learning Vietnamese. Now I'm sounds like a stalker haha.
Your homestay teacher seemed really nice, and encouraging. Thanks for letting share these moments with you.
Thanks for watching. She’s going to come to Tokyo to visit.
Damn I should learn Korean too, then I’d be able to talk to my grandparents. It’s hard honestly.
If I can do it, you can too! It's all about the time you put into it.
Irgendwie traurig, wenn man nicht mit seinen Großeltern sprechen kann.
Du solltest wirklich versuchen, es zu lernen. Können dir deine Eltern nicht dabei helfen?
That TV moment just killed me... I'd... just... nooooOOO! Funny, you did it so great!
Your dedication is absolutely awesome!
It taks so much effort to learn Eastern Asian languages, especially because of the pronounciation.
Do you ever get confused between Chinese, Japanese and Korean?
Thank you Michael. Normally I don’t get confused, but during my Korean class in Japan they use Japanese a lot and then switch to Korean so I do mix words up in those situations.

I have watched a ton of your videos over the last year. When I first started watching your videos I was just amazed how effortless it was for you to speak. This video was my favorite one yet. It shows your process. I like that you said it’s not easy and there is no 30 day course that would make you fluent…. Truly inspirational
I’m so glad that you like this video Michale. I really enjoyed filming it and making it. These kinds of videos are not favored my the algorithm so I’m really glad that there’s people like you that still love them.
@@OrientalPearl thanks for the response. I love process.
일본어 비디오들 만들다가 이제 한국어 배우시니까 좋으네요!! (I watched your Japanese videos, being a learner and it's nice to see that you're learing Korean too now!)
That's awesome that you're learning Japanese now!
What an achievement !! Your life is so full. Keep challenging the world and learning.
Thank you so much Patricia.
The funny thing is that they had some modern performances there too and modern music, but that performance was all traditional.
This is a great example to show that you can always catch up after falling behind for whatever reason. But it takes hard work and dedication to make it happen! It can be done and anyone can do it!
That’s right John! It’s not over, and you can always come back full force.
1 minuite ago? WOO NEW VIDEO
You got the first comment!
At 2:14. You've got to love those Korean TV programs. I also like Korean soap operas.
Between chinese, japanese, and korean, I have always found korean to be the most difficult. However, I also think it's the most fun of the 3.
Korean is challenging for sure because of the grammar and the levels of formality in speaking. If it still had Chinese characters it would be just as hard as Japanese.
When you say it's the most fun of the three, do you mean the way it flows off the tongue?
@@OrientalPearl japanese is difficult cause of the kanji and korean is difficult cause the formalities😅 japanese has gotten easier since ive started learning hanja though. seems less overwhelming now lol

This was fun to watch, I laughed when you mentioned you "went all the way from Japan to Korea" that is just around the corner, I'm from Australia distance from Japan to Korea is about the same as Sydney to Melbourne 👍👍🦘🦘
OP on the move, so glad to see you branching out and experiencing a new language/culture! Keep studying!
This was fun, I used to live in Seoul. Love your dedication.
That’s so cool. I wish I could live in Korea for a couple of years.
This was one of your best one’s! Extreme learning!
When in the military, I spent a year at a base in Uijeongbu city. A friend of mine worked on learning the language, and we didn't stay at the base on weekends. We would travel. Sometimes, just grab a bus, and go for a hour or so. Was a fun thing to do. He was learning the language better than I was by a long shot. great videos. Cheers
Been watching all you videos they are great. But for some reason I can’t give this one a thumbs up 👍 it’s not an option. Loved this video you worked so hard
I Really admire you for learning different languages, it can literally open up a whole new world, and can make a different way of life for you, which it has. 😊🤗
Thank you so much Debra. I want to learn Vietnamese next year.
Oh, what a determined person you are! I came here to Japan 2 months ago, I can actually speak the language but here I realized that I need to study more if I want to get into this culture. Even we have the same difficulties, you are committed to study Korean while being in Japan, that’s so cool! Keep studying and you’ll fulfill all your goals 👏👏
I hope you are enjoying Japan.
What a gracious glimpse you give of Korea, and your own sweet vision Anming.Greetings to you and Tom from Battle Creek,Michigan,a stones throw from Detroit. For years I worked at the horse racing tracks in Detroit.
@Oriental_pearl1 Your way to kind Anming.I truly believe your language gift will open many doors and bring you before great men.Your laugh alone is priceless, and I say this with humble respect for Tom.
Thank you so much Fred. I’ll be in Michigan at the end of the summer.

wow! very awesome and impressive. These are the vids that inspire many folks ( me ) to get back to work!! Thank you and congratulations on your increased vocab!! 👍
Thank you Robb. I learn a lot of new grammar points too. Still working hard.
Gosh I salute you for your dedication and tenacity in language learning! If i have half your drive and determination I would be spouting yards and yards of Korean by now. I am hoping your videos can spur me on a bit...
Thank you Sarah. I hope these videos help to motivate you.
Have fun oriental pearl. Be safe. Have a good day today.
Thank you friend.
Good! 😀This motivates me to continue learning Tagalog. Malay/Indonesian is next for me, Total immersion forces the speaker to learn the target language.
Youre such an inspiration. This video really motivated me to work a little harder
Adorable beyond words.
Another great video Anming. The food looks amazing. I need your motivation if I want to learn Japanese. Best of luck with Korean.
Thank you so much Juan. The food was great.
you got this!!! bigggggg love from Korea ❤
Thank you so much! I'm working hard.
I really admire your commitment to learning Korean! Im sure you’ll make your goal! If you have time, can you possibly make a video of your perceived differences and similarities between Korean and Japanese customs/lifestyle? Thank you. I enjoyed watching this.👍🏼
I would love too, however the TH-cam algorithm isn’t very kind to me when I make non-reaction videos.
You are so inspiring. I am
I am amazed at your ability to learn languages. You are quite brilliant. 🙏🏼✌🏼💖
Really love you videos and learning about the different cultures. I would love to learn more Spanish and become fluent. You always get a like for me! Keep up the good work.

I am watching this video while I am sick, hope you all stay healthy and keep your pace with your language learning.
I wish you a speedy recovery Ronnie.
@@OrientalPearl thank you very much ❤️ I am pretty impressed by your achievements, you did an excellent job!
May I ask you if you found the time to maintain your Chinese and Japanese level? Or you only focused on Korean?
Well done for all the hard work you put in & thanks for the vids. Diolch!🏴
Thank you so much John!
Way to go. So dedicated. Proud of you. I lived the black and white cartoons...I laughed.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you like my silly sense of humor.

Thank you so much. I’m still working hard here now.
You are so inspiring!! Loving your videos
Pearl!!!! I admire your perseverance👍👏👏👏
Thank you so much!
At 8:38. You would really need to come to Korea for a year to become fluent. Study is one thing but practicing it on Korean locals is another. They could help with phrasing and tone. Plus you get to eat all that great Korean food.
The best I can do is study at the Korean language school here in Japan.
When I lived there, way back, language was different depending on the social context. Best of luck I will keep watching to see how it goes
Your motivation will help you a lot to achieve your goal. In my personal experience I started learning german at first when I was at the university but finally quit cause I didn't have any motivation to carry on. But some months ago started learning japanese with an academy, I had been wishing to learn this one since I was a child and my motivation increases everyday, even I study by myself when I am not on the job. It's supposed Japanese is harder but my love for the language and the culture is what keeps me going. Also looking forward to improve even more my english skills.
I’m so glad that you have so much passion for language learning!
Wow.... The struggles of our heroine are real😮 LFG anming.... You got this❤.... But seriously, Korean is the most pleasant sounding spoken Asian language.... It sounds so chill and friendly off the tongue...I really appreciate your honesty about no quick fix learning
Thank you. I’m glad that you appreciated the honesty of this video.
Amazing vlog ! 😊 Love it ! Thanks Anming
