You should take the first hook off that bait, leave the tail hook on. You will get more good hookups and less fouling. Speckled trout trick I learned from Louisiana!
Fun video! My only feedback is that you can switch the trebles out to singles and you’ll have less trouble getting them unhooked plus the singles do less damage to the fish when they actually commit to a bite and try to swallow it. The missed hookups are not your fault. Fish generally try to nip and injure their prey before committing to a bite you just gotta keep playing with them until they can’t resist their instincts to attack the lure. Looking forward to more similar content! Tight lines!
Great video. New way I am fishing for trout. I have changed the treble hooks to a regular barbless hook. I have also pinched the barbs on trebles. Made it easier for me to release the fish. Just a thought if you haven’t tried. Tight lines😊
Great video! I’ll be getting one of those jerk baits and trying it in my local spots. I appreciate you showing us how you fished with it too! So many time product review videos don’t actually show you how to best use the product like this Keep it up!
Get yourself some baits from dynamic lure , great action , a lot of great patterns to choose from, I’ve been getting some nice browns between 16- 20 inches and a few larger ones
I'm new to trout fishing but I've been running jerks as of recent and I like them. Trying new ones each week it seems. Caught my 20" brown on a live leaf worm though but also throw panther Martin and mepps. They all work sometimes it boils down to timing, the body of water and figuring out asap what they'll hit more frequently.
Nice job. This is my favorite way to fish trout. Small streams. I haven't had too much luck using stick baits but I need to find more spots to fish. Good video though.
I usually use the x rap like yours, I have a few different colors and ofcourse the yellow and black panther martin. I've done real good on both. And good and enjoyable video too man! It's about time I catch up on your awesome and knowledgeable videos! Good video man👍👍
Love the channel, thanks so much for sharing! I started trying jerkbaits for Michigan brown trout and I too struggle to get a good hook-up and keep it hooked. Always fun to try something new though!
I have several smaller jerk baits about a one and a half inches. They look just like yours, but smaller. They are quite effective. I believe it is because is they are too short for a fish to hit broadside without getting hooked. Also, another great stream bait is 1 1/2 soft plastic hellgrammites, fished with a 1/16 ounce jig head.
Really enjoy your videos -- I especially liked the advice about Trout Routes, which I downloaded. Curious -- are most the streams you fish in Southwest Michigan? Of course you don't want to identify them by name. But I will be moving to Douglas next summer and was very encouraged by your reports. Are there plenty of fun small streams in southwest Mi to keep a guy busy without having to drive north for 3+ hours? Thanks!
Hey! You ever been skamania steelheadin? Come down to the kalamazoo, or Saint Joe rivers around a week or two from now. A better fight does not exist in fresh water.
I’ve caught a few in the fall but never a fresh run skam, planning on hitting them this summer though on the kzoo! What is your recommendation for bait for them? Will my jig and wax worm work?
@@themichiganangler4746 jig and a waxy or a spawn sack on a float, drifting flies spawn or beads, inline spinners for casting. Also plunking with spawn and wobble glows if your feeling lazy lol. I got one on the south haven pier on a allwive fishing bottom last week. can't wait to see the video.
It really depends on your setup. Line and rod really effect the action of those stick baits. I have about 30 different kinds currently lol. Come fish with me sometime and you can try some out.
Actually, I use the same technique in a small river in Massachusetts this spring and I slayed them one after another. It seemed the sharper I jerked it the more aggressive They hit it. ..all in the rain too! Got it on my GoPro as well! Great video!
Try fishing it slower. The rip stop is made to stop very quickly after you jerk it. It can’t do that if you’re constantly reeling. Just a thought. I’ve never caught or fished for trout with it but I’ve caught a bunch of bass with it and they seem to hit it on the pause.
You should take the first hook off that bait, leave the tail hook on. You will get more good hookups and less fouling. Speckled trout trick I learned from Louisiana!
Great tip thank you!!!!
That would be good for bigger trout. Try a smaller jerk bait you will have a better hook up

First video I've seen on the ripstop for trout. I've been using the ripstop for GIANT browns in reservoirs. I personally favor the herring color.
What state?

I 100% agree 👊👊
Enjoyed the video man! Panther Martin spinners have always been my favorite lure when I target Brook Trout. Probably work well on Browns too
I definitely need to pick up a couple of those then! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! I actually have a video coming up in a day or two on how I find new spots to fish 👍
Great flick, color of them fish are excellent.
Thanks a lot Bill! Beautiful fish!!
Reminds me of fishing small streams when i was a kid. Great video

I'm generally not crazy about product review and promos but this was pretty cool.

Really Appreciate that!!! I’m trying to understand when to throw what though. Like when the situation would call for a spinner vs a jerk bait ..etc

This video was awesome! Thanks for sharing! I do a lot of Michigan hunting and fishing videos too
Thank you for checking it out!!
Love jerk baits for trout. Cool video. I like spinners too. I catch big Browns on both, north of 55 and east of 33.

Absolutely! All the streams I fish are within 45 minutes or so from my house in SW Michigan. TONS of awesome trout water!

I have these in every color they make and man are they worth the coin spent on them.
I just picked up a couple more the other day! Love them!
@@themichiganangler4746 Worth it for sure, theyre not the cheapest but they create some great reaction strikes!
Do you ever have any luck fishing type 1 designated streams?
Yes!
I ordered some jerk baits from BPS recently and am gonna hit a small brown trout stream here in SW Mi this weekend.
Nice! Good luck man!! I fished today and the creek was low and super clear.
Nice! do you know of any good fishing spots in southeast Michigan, like around Rochester?
I don’t, I’m from SW Michigan
I’m also in Rochester. New to trout fishing but having a lot of fun exploring the creeks and rivers around here.
Wow love your videos but I don’t know what to do or where to go to catch these guys anymore.
Very good video buddy! Every time I jerkbait fish I pray I don’t end up in ER with a treble hook in my finger. :D
If you need the emergency room to remove a treble hook.. you’re the problem 🤡🤣 save the emergency room for… emergencies 🙄
awesome vid i gotta try a jerk air and also what is your rod and reel combo called if you don’t mind me asking
Nice man. Picked up some ripstops about a month ago.
I haven't found a stickbait that has a great hookup ratio yet. A lot of that may be the fault of the angler though
It really jumped out to me when I was at the tackle shop! Was wanting a more trouty pattern but this one seemed to work ok!
Yeah I threw it a few times. Action is ok
What other one do you recommend I get??

Awesome video! Have you ever fished up in the UP? I’m headed there in a week or so!
I never have but I sure want to!! Where are you planning on fishing ??
I’m just gonna take my fishing guides and drive and fish and camp
Well that sounds awesome! Have fun man!
Nice video! Can you try to fish the Pere Marquette? I’m going there next month and would like to see if it’s good there
I’d love to try the PM, it’s about two and a half hours north of me so I’m not sure when I’ll get up to try it !

Try to find smaller jerk bait. I'd like to see that
Pick up a rainbow trout color brown trout hate rainbows
