Is the 2019 Honda Pilot good ENOUGH or still needs MORE?

  • The 2019 Pilot receives a refresh on the exterior and a tad on the interior. Honda is trying very hard to break the minivan personality, look and feel the Pilot has received. Under the hood is the tried and true 3.5L V6 mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. With 3-row seating and tons of amenities, has Honda done enough?

Never loved the look of Pilot but we need a wheelchair accessible vehicle and VMI converts the Pilot. Just got the 2019 EX-L black on black and we really like it so far. Amazingly the space for wheelchair (former second row) is more ample than our 2008 Odyssey wheelchair van. I’m glad the styling improved for 2019. 👍

When all car reviewers complain about folding down the second row seats flat? Let me ask you something: how often does anybody fold down all the seats but the front? Not so often, so what do you need a fancy schnazy button for if you won't use it often?
This is not to hate on you, your reviews are great, its just a thing reviewers complain about that I don't get why.

There are a number of interesting choices in the "tweener" category (circa 190" in length) larger than the compact category and smaller than the larger midsize vehicles (196" and up) including the Passport, Ford Edge, Outback, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, etc. Most are two row crossovers. The Sorento is an exception. And most offer standard or optional V6's. The Santa Fe is the exception on that score. All in all, the "tweener" group isn't widely recognized as a separate category but for those who want more room than a compact SUV but something more maneuverable and easier to park than the larger midsize entries, the category has some interesting choices.

I think it's going to take more than a "refresh" for the Pilot to beat off the competition from the Telluride, the forthcoming Palisade, and the new Explorer. Honda is very good at offering lots of clever "family friendly" features, large and small. And their reputation for quality and reliability will provide some defense. But the entire category of what Americans call larger "midsize" SUV's (and the rest of the world call behemoths) is becoming very, very competitive with new models.

    • @davidjym

Trying currently to decide between a Pilot EXL or Touring, a Palisade SEL, and a 4Runner SR5 or 2019 Highlander XLE, all fwd. Also trying to take the complaints of every model with a grain of salt on the NHTSA.gov site. They all sound like nightmares, and make none of these vehicles seem reliable. Fyi, the deals you can find on the Truecar app are phenomenal.

      @stephenhendricks103 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

All in an overall size that's (surprisingly) virtually the same as the Pilot. The same, by the way, applies to the Subaru Ascent. In fact, KIA does a remarkable job in terms of packaging "efficiency" in both the Telluride and the smaller Sorento. Divide the total passenger room (in cubic feet) by the length of the vehicles (in inches) to get a measure of the "passenger room per inch of length." The Telluride and the Sorento are #1and #2 among all three row SUV's.

    • @JJustinXu

hello, i am a new 2019 honda passport touring owner. i am here in canada. the touring is the top trim level. picked it up last week. 13,000 KMS on it. not sure how many miles that is. and just today - thu april 30th i get the infamous loss of radio signal and then the network communication failure and it goes dark. no pwer on it. then a few mins later it turns on by itself to the sirius xm station i was originally listening too. this happened 3 times within an hour. but the 4th time it never turned back on. stayed dark for an hour and i got home. turned the vehicle off. waited 3 mins and turned it back on. but NO screen. was dark. nothing. MANY videos on youtube also show the SPEEDOMETER goes dark as well. nothing showing your speed. THAT becomes a SAFETY issue. not a cosmetic one like the radio not working. videos show the infotainment screen turns off at the SAMETIME the speedometer screen goes dark. thats not good. im assuming all honda sending isnt working either since nothing is on the screen above the steering wheel. yes the passports have the SAME infotainment system as the pilot and odyssey's. and the samething is happening to 2019 acura rdx models as well. this is a HUGE SAFETY issue for honda. a HUGE class action lawsuit has started the the states. here in canada i dont see one yet. i need to start one because the issues are with the passports as well and it MIMCS the u.s. case. this is a SAFETY issue folks. look at these videos. would this be cool for you to drive in these situations with a 3 year old in the back seat? maybe not knowing if the honda sensing is working or not. not knowing how fast you are going.....hmmmmmm sounds like it becomes a NON street vehicle without a speedometer no??? WAKEUP HONDA !!! this is going to be a HUGE recall for you. odyssey's, pilots, passports, acuras. wow.
you can run and deny but you will NOT be able to hide.
HERE IS THE VIDEO LINK OF THE ACTUAL LAWFIRM TAPING IT:
    th-cam.com/video/Wx6uiQpxHCk/w-d-xo.html
read the link i am attaching. a HUGE lawsuit has ALREADY started !!! im in canada so i cannot get in on it. i have a 2019 PASSPORT. its doing the SAMETHING !!! just got it last week. UNREAL.

If Honda want to attract the earth loving soccer mums, they need to make a trim that has a hybrid engine
I still love my internal combustion engine, but rising fuel prices makes me think twice about flooring the pedal sometimes.
SUV are usually equipped with AWD or 4x4 so calling a FWD SUV a SUV sounds oxymoron to me
The Pilot is more like a mix between a tall MPV inside with SUV like looks on the outside
weird to still see DVD player system in cars, prob the last time i saw them was in the 90s and 2000s
i think the iPads has mostly replace the need for DVD players

Thanks for the video. I have the same exact car but AWD. Towing is 5,000 lbs if you have it. They did make the armrest wider for 2019. I do prefer a fix armrest like my old MDX though.
I love my Touring model but hate all the chrome on the outside. I plan to delete everything even the wheels. I don't like all the gloss black on the inside too and wish there were aftermarket trim covers for them. I do agree that the steering wheel needs to be like the one my 18 Accord though. I wish they would've kept the remote like in the older year pilot instead of having it separate. Those small pockets on the back of the front seats are for the remote because it's too small for phones hehe.

Potential 2019 pilot owners: please stay away from 2018-2019 Odyssey and 2019 Pilot, apparently, a lot of pilot owners have reported that the pilot has a defective infotainment system, it malfunctions, freezes, and sometimes shuts down suddenly, it may displaying “radio unavailable” or “network connection lost”. If you want to know more info, just search “class action lawsuit 2019 Honda Pilot” on google, apparently, a class action lawsuit was filed against Honda for knowingly selling defective vehicles and refused/failed to fix it. You can also go to carcomplaints.com to see the consumer Reports.

The 80's called and want their arm rests back. I can't believe Honda thought that was better than the previous model that had a large center rest and none of those flimsy fold-down rests. Overall, I've disliked the changes Honda instituted with the 2016 change. My 2012 is still better looking - inside and out. I wouldn't buy the current model.
