Honestly, that’s a sad end. The Gold Hoarder was one of my favourite characters in sea of thieves, and unlike Flameheart or The Captain, he was an actual villain that appeared several times in the story, with an actual explanation, (cough) Siren Queen. The Gold Hoarder deserved a better end than just being welded to a stick made of coral. RIP
The skull still contains the soul of the ancient warrior (the siren queens husband) some in his skull and in his own remains and in the chest of everlasting sorrow so he has more than enough power to come back if you dig deep enough for long enough he does actually have the best story like ever written
And the skull on the trident gains so much power that it cracks and releases the souls trapped inside and could find new remains and imagine it became the thing that merrilk is talking about and spreading rumours about now that he’s back and could be something that could cast ruin upon the sea of theivs and he takes the remains of the ancient warrior or idk anything

I remember doing research into Hogarth when Hoarders Hunt was live and I ended up finding nothing on his eventual fate, nice to know he played a role, albeit a small one 👍
Lore wise...so many dead ends, unfulfilled promises, incoherence, and missed/blown opportunities. Breaks my heart. It's now so far beyond ever truly righting the ship, that the closest thing we'll ever get to a satisfying ending (for this labyrinthine PL/FH arc alone), is something akin to the end of Return of the Jedi. What I mean by actual villain is that he’s someone you can fight, not some Reaper representative like Flameheart is now.

I'll be honest... the story and its missing parts and connections is the only thing that keeps me in Sea of Thieves

Honestly it is a miracle how such good lore was such severely underutilized and bastardised by developers.
SoT lore used to be amazing. The adventures began the beginning of the end.
