Thanks for bringing us along for your adventures mate. I'm watching from my sailboat in the middle of a weeklong exploration of the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria, Australia. I havent been sailing in ages, finally Back to the Barky!
The sculpture reminded me of the children’s game jacks, and when I looked it up it’s indeed that called the Jack Star sculpture by Richard Farrington. Keep up the adventures!
Love it. I drive past Portsbridge Creek every day on the A27 and sail and Kayak around Portsmouth/Langstone/Chi. Great to see some familiar waters from a different perspective.
Thanks matey! Yes they are good fun, plenty out there in need of use/rescue, shame to let them fall to bits, and spares are abundant so a cheap way to get out there. Thanks for watching.
An interesting trip! An old stomping ground. The first bridge you encountered was the Eastern Road bridge, the second was the Hilsea railway bridge followed by the Portsbridge roundabout that used to be one bridge but is now two ...in order to accommodate the roundabout. And afterwards the M275.. and the ditch is called Port Creek which separates Portsmouth from the mainland.
Yes I should do more research beforehand to improve my tour-guiding 😏 Love the fact Portsmouth is an island, Wikipedia says it's the 3rd most populated island of the British Isles after Great Britain and Ireland! Thanks for watching all the way.
I was sorry for your stress, but that was _very_ funny. Imagine if trains still emptied their lavatories onto the tracks. 😄 I've never seen *any* sailing boat in the canal beside the M27 there, so it's a heroic first in my view. Always glad to see you have liquid assets on board - but get that drinks holder screwed down securely, or gimballed! Fascinating to see the _Britannia_ moored up there. For most of the last seven years she was at Hythe, I didn't know she'd moved. She was built 30 years ago (rather badly) but never finished, as a replica of King George V's yacht. The builders ran out of money and she's been like a dark shadow wherever they parked her since.
Glad I entertained! Sure I'm not the first that was probably a bronze age trader but I'll take the heroic part! Some interesting local knowledge there thanks for sharing thanks again for watching!
Good one fella. I've driven past that many times and wondered if that trip was possible too. Nice to see you succeed. That sculpture reminds me of a game we used to play called Jacks. You would have half a dozen of those shaped objects and a rubber ball. You'd throw the jacks on the ground and bounce the ball while having to pick up the jacks. Not quite GTA, but they were simpler times eh. Best wishes Al
@@backtothebarky Never. It's generally calm on the land side of the Goodwins, and besides, we were fearless (A.K.A. stupid) teenagers. We did wear PFDs, and carried a small box of flares, just in case.
Great video and thank you for saying "goosewing" as that's the proper name 😊 Loved it when you were laid under the bridge. How much for the other boat?
Tis the right true Christian way to describe it yes! Yes I almost bottled it and didn't go through, all those high voltage warning signs etc! As for the famous Jaba well if you're genuinely interested email me and I'll let you know the details: backtothebarky@gmail.com. Thanks for watching!
Hello mate, enjoy the videos. How much water does the mirror need under her and also any chance of a shorts video on your main sheet set up as I’m hoping to run a outboard on my mirror next spring!
Hi, glad you like them cheers. Dagger board down maybe 2ft, dagger board up rudder up maybe 6inches! As for the mainsheet it's not complicated, tie off one end on the port side transom, then run it through a block at the boom end, then through the block on the starboard side of the transom and into your hand. So it forms a triangle off the transom to the boom. Tie a stopper knot in the end. Maybe I'll do a rigging video next time I drag her out the shed ay might be good to do.. Thanks for watching!

I know I had the game but didn't remember the rules... Sounds like hours of fun 😂 cheers for watching again Al.
I learned to sail in one of these, back in the mid 70s. Many a happy hour was spent off Deal, and out to the Goodwin Sands.
Wow that's a few miles out into the channel pretty epic sailing a mirror that. Twas normal in the 70s tho I'm sure! Did you capsize out there?
