Agreed that Saving Private Ryan would be a good one to review, because back then Spielberg was very involved in making sure the ww2 veterans approved of the material. He did the same thing for the first Medal of Honor game, where his company produced/made the game, because they wanted to be respectful.
No joke, the commanding officer of my Recon Bn casually rolled up and asked to join my team on a 2 day jungle training patrol because he was bored of his desk. He patrolled as a slack man, carrying nothing but a shit ton of water, ammo, and a 30lb M67 recoilless rifle filled with cement. He said like two words the entire patrol, covered his field of fire with his stupid ass launcher, and happily took orders from Sgts. Dude was a legend.

I remember humping the M67 Recoilless Rifle myself in early 1980s while in the Army - hated that hunk of worthless metal. Also remember that rather LARGE signature smoke effect that you would get after firing a round which basically revealed your position - quickly learned to immediately get up and run to another position after each time firing that thing. Was glad that the Army got rid of that thing!! Also remember that when the Army finally decided to get rid of the M67, we went to the range and just basically fired off as many rounds as we could for a whole day in order to get rid of the inventory on base. Then, near the end of the day, we were told to stop firing the rounds because it was finally decided to that the M67s and whatever ammo that was left were to be sent Nicaragua to help with the Sandinista Rebels at that time. Remembering firing something like 50-60 rounds that day.

Granddad was a Tanker in Korea, for that War. He said when the Wave Attacks came, it was like watching a Wall of Ants, devour the Valley, in front of him. Massive movements of Men screaming and charging. You could hear the roar a mile away. His Battalion would start out with the Main Guns, then Mainguns and .50's, then Mainguns, .50's and .30's. Then all the above and any Rifles. Then, they were on the Tanks and he would bust out a Remington 12 GA with Buck Shot and would sweep the Tank.
Then an M9, then a rock. lol

"Three Kings" and "Kelly's Heroes" the two movies that made me want to join the Army. I never did run into a nice little cache of gold I could steal with my buddies behind enemy lines though? I'll blame my recruiter for that.
Well, I'll say it, Rambo for being as over the top as it is now, the ending speech that Rambo gives at the end of First Blood still hits close to home about veterans returning home in comparison to opportunities.

My wife talked me into seeing this movie with her when it first came out. At times during the movie she would say " you wrote me about that". Folks who ask " what was it like" I tell em that it would be like telling a virgin what sex is like.

I don't know man, Surf Ninjas was pretty epic. I think the Napalm was the only thing that tipped the scale.
Excuse me, but Surf's Up 2 was a cinematic masterpiece on par with The Godfather II.
My favorite laugh out loud moment was from Rambo II, where he fired the LAW from the cockpit of the helicopter without regard to the POWs in the backblast area.

From what I gather that is a fairly close representation of what actually happened that night, one of the most accurate movies without being an actual documentary w/ on the ground footage. Unfortunately, media has done everything in their power to keep it from being aired on broadcast, which I think is total horse shit...

My grandfather,father,and almost every man before that in my family has served a military of some country and seeing how my own family members reacted to these types of movies supported the spark of curiosity ive gotten when i ran across this particular video and i have to say seeing veterans with actual experience with the things used in these films is extremely interesting to someone who has yet to serve in any kind of military like myself

In my day, there was a debate over whether or not the PL should be starting the ambush with his M203. Always seemed ‘tarded IMO.

The unit that was in that movie ended up skipping a deployment to sangin to relieve other 5th marine units thusly they became the loser Hollywood unit in their area of Pendleton. Just a random fact about that movie but they should totally critique it.
