Most welcome 😃. Good question !! One of the basis to decide this is the client Design basis. However, in our industry the most widely used thermowell is tapered TWs. Like a similar example is that of thermowell connection, usually we have flanged thermowell but for certain special cases we could go for welded design but this depends on client preference. This is as per best of my current understanding. Hope some engineers can shed more light on to this subject 🙂

Good question !!
One of the basis to decide this is the client Design basis.
However, in our industry the most widely used thermowell is tapered TWs.
