Bossy is definitely one of the best goal scorers and he could have scored over 800 goals if he played 20 years. However, you CANT use goals per game average as a way to compare players. Naturally, the longer you play has an impact on that statistic. Because you are not going to score as many goals at 38 as you did at 28.

As a new hockey fan of 4 years that lives in Utah, it is great to hear these stories of some of the greats. Hockey has a magnificent history, and I am obsessed. Thank you!

I was a distant neighbour of Denis Potvin and schoolmate at his primary school. He was freakishly strong as a boy and his excellence did not stop at hockey-- he was a star in lacrosse (late teens) , football and deemed to be the best baseball prospect in Canada by Montreal Expos' scouts. Can someone tell him that I was unable to reach him in order to tell him that one of his best childhood friends, Gary Dagenais, was dying from cancer a few years back and I was unable to contact him. Bobby Orr may have been better offensively but Denis was scary , especially when his team was losing.

Denis, you were absolutely right. When Montreal won The Stanley Cups, The Islanders were the only team to beat them during their run. Also, when you were made Captain, IT WAS START OF SOMETHING BIG, VERY, VERY BIG.

Well, for their late 70s Cups, they had one more loss each playoff season so their record is:
      12-1
      12-2
      12-3
      12-4
The Islanders faced them and gave them all their losses the first two seasons.
However, the next two seasons, it was Detroit, Boston (5 losses) and the Rangers who gave them those losses.

There really is no comparison between the Montreal dynasty and Islanders. Canadians won 12 straight series winning 4 cups. Islanders won 19 consecutive series in their run. They are the greatest NHL dynasty ever and no team is winning 20 series in a row for 5 cups straight.

Gretzky, Bossy and...Ovi? No Mario Lemieux???

You're right, when it comes to goals per game, Mario is in the conversation for sure. Bossy and Lemieux are 1-2 in NHL history. But, they conflated that with most goals all time. Ovi now only averages 0.598 per game. Gretzky and Ovechkin are the compilers of goals. Bossy was the most pure goal scorer I ever saw. He would have scored 1000+ if he stayed healthy. Same with Mario.

Guy Lafleur did not play a game with Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the American Hockey League.

You are correct. Larry Robinson played about a year and a half but not LaFleur.

Gino, Denis was never humble, actually quite the opposite.
