    SMH, you are so right that you have to keep an eye on them, they are utterly clueless sometimes! My contractor painted my house a totally different color and kept arguing with me that it was the same color when one is grey and the other is white... amazing job, congrats! never seen a korean contractor lol

    Congrats Clara! I have a few suggestions. Get blinds or shutters and possibly drapes for privacy/security. Also, consider simply safe or other security, including a ring doorbell. You mentioned your inspector, so did your contractor get permits for renovations to plumbing, electrical, etc. So if you decide to sell, you won't have any hiccups.🥰 And are those huge banana trees? Wow. That's awesome!

    Loved seeing the transformation to your space! I've renovated two NYC apartments and found that even with a good contractor, you have to stay on top of all the little details to ensure the work is perfect. I feel your pain! +1 to the comment that your bathroom doesn't look like it got waterproofed. There's a special membrane that they need to lay before they tile which prevents mold and mildew.

    A month is INSANEEE for all that reno. You had an amazing team, great job!! I'm reno-ing now on my 100yr old victorian flat in London and it's not for the weak but I have my own contracting superhero so yaaaay.

    You really gotta keep an eye on construction workers and make sure they are doing everything right! Some like to take shortcuts. I always recommend to do your research on how things should be done properly so you are aware of the proper way to do them and always ask questions too. I also recommend in taking video and pictures of everything and make more than one visit to the site!

    Love your home. You did a great job! Renos are a learning process. You get better at it with each one. You did the right thing in buying a fixer upper. I live in Monterey Park. Couldn’t afford what I really wanted so bought an ugly house and gutted it. So glad I did. Enjoy your home.

    Realize, this is an old home, walls are not going to be 90 degrees, especially old LA homes because they’re are not brick. The issue there is that they didn’t add decorative shim pieces to make it 90 degrees during that cabinet installation.

    Honestly, your joy's literally the best to watch here! Joining you on the whole homeownership/massive changes journey from our place on the East Coast!
    I'm mainly surprised that you had lathe and plaster! I thought it was mainly an East Coast thing.
    Where did you get your cabinets from? They look fantastic!

      thank you so much for watching !!! i had to google lath and plaster but oh my god, yeah a lot of things about this old house took my contractor by surprise for sure... it must be an old house thing. 100+ years..
      the cabinets are all from a small wholesale place in Rosemead, east of LA. theres a BUNCH of chinese run places there that sell everything hella cheap lol. ill make a video about how i sourced everything next!

      @@clara.hwajoon yep check my page of my DIY bathroom Reno so you can see how it’s supposed to be as far as waterproofing the walls and floor, tile and grout is not water proof so water will get behind the cement board and drywall they tiled over and slowly but surely start water rotting wood studs behind that and cause mold/ termites etc

    Congrats on your first home. The speed and cost of the renovation in LA are quite surprising. I might have done some different things for space planning. For example, rather than having a big hallway, I might have incorporated that into the bathroom area and then with the shifted bathroom, added that space into the bedroom. I won't ask how you managed to get permit approval in a month span when you replaced all your systems and moved bathrooms! The kitchen especially turned out really nicely.

    • @clara.hwajoon
      @clara.hwajoon  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep i wanted the hallway smaller but couldnt do that with the placement of existing hallway window. And none of the bathrooms moved at all, as far as plumbing! la for sure is speedy haha thank you for watching ~

    I guess the question is: Why did you buy this house in the first place knowing that it is full of problems?

    • @clara.hwajoon
      @clara.hwajoon  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Sometimes u gotta weigh to pros and cons + look at other places on the market that are more expensive with fewer problems. For me a place like this at the price i got it at was a steal even including the renovation costs - everywhere else id never be able to afford, aandd id likely have to put in money renovating a lil bit. With old houses in good locations its just hard to avoid. Plus!! This way i got to renovate and make it MY place with my design decisions 🥹🥹

    Is this your first reno? If it is you found a dream contractor. You did a really nice job on this cute home. I like all the continuity of tiles and cabinet colors. Do you have a laundry area within the home? What was the final decision on your furnace situation? 😊🏚️=🏠❤
