Theres something to be said about simplicity. I have a few extras that ive bought over the years, but once i found my goldilocks EDC i stopped switching things up. Now Ive got 1 edc bag, 1 car bag, one edc knife, 1 edc light, 1 edc pen, 2 multitools, and thats it. I always know what i have now.
Well said. Edc became a problem for me. Needlessly buying alot of gear I never needed. I got rid of alot. I only kept and use knives and mutltitools that were given to me as gifts
I used to be on the road a lot. I was wracking up serious miles and got into situations where I was seriously under prepared for certain situations. I didn’t have a pocket knife, a victorinox Sak and a keychain flashlight before but now I have those things on the daily and they have been helpful. I now keep a tire inflator and jump starter in my car. i keep a back up flashlight and a multi tool in my bag and car because i dont always bring my bag with me. i have three knives that i rotate between and thats enough for me. I got a few pens that cost me no more than $30 and a few nice cheap ones. Got a few notebooks that i use for lists or tasks i need to do. Rarely do i take notes. On rare occasions I’ll write my thoughts down. I think I’ve pretty much reached end game for edc for me. If I need something I’ll know when that situation comes up. For now I think I’ll just enjoy my hobbies and live life. Smoke some cigars. Make money. Etc.
Really like your chill videos. EDC is a strange term for me but only way I can search other people carrying stuff. It's just shit I carry that I use every day or in a twice a month scenario. New thing I added was a gauze pack (bleed stop) I cut the shit out of myself and I didn't have a great way to stop the bleeding. Whatever it is, it always happens when I'm NOT carrying the item(s) to deal with it. So i thought I don't want a mess of bloody paper towels next time, just going to carry 1 wound iodine pad, 1 bleed stop, and some form of compression dressing at all times. If I have it I wont cut myself. the second that shit ages out though, cut city.
I use EDP ..Everyday preparedness..I don’t really just carry things..i need to be prepared, I’m a certified first responder and I may over prep (EDP) at work but I need things that I carry, pulse ox, stop watch, medical kit.. I feel I prep things that I need and actually use..great vid bro
My EDC world started in the wake of Katrina. I personally saw a ton of folks with immediate problems and no immediate solutions. And it just got me thinking when stuff hits the fan, what am I prepared for? And I don't mean being a doomsday prepper. But can I provide any usefulness to myself and those around me? I did a long stint in the Navy, and when I wasn't out on deployment or at sea, became a Red Cross shelter manager and community disaster educator. I'd go to events and have water filters, medical gear, tools, food, etc. to showcase what people should have at their house. They almost never cared and just wanted a shirt or koozie. I'm very outdoorsy. Hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking... And a lot of that led to minimal and ultralight, multifunctional gear. And that's where I sit today. I do have a lot of things in my pockets, my office bag, my house, my car that can get me through a lot of bad scenarios. But I always make sure it is no more than I reasonably will actually use. I don't need whatever a Leatherman Arc can do. My Sog Powerpint that I modded does just fine for everything I need from it. I have one Benchmade and a Civivi Qubit, and they have never failed me. Final thought: what good is all the gear in the world if you haven't seriously assessed your knowledge and skills to understand the solution to what life throws at you? Education and knowledge is the one thing I hear almost no EDC influencer discuss. Its your most valuable thing you can carry. Period.
After thinking about it I have to say I don't really have am end goal. Also, personally I have and EDC line up for workdays and 1 for weekend fancy days.
So far, my EDC fits in the four pockets of my jeans (pants). I have mine down to a list of implements that could or do help me get through the day. I carry a clean and a dirty use folding knives…a Case Mini Trapper (old school) and a US made Buck knife bought at Cabellas for $19 ten years ago. I don’t smoke but I carry a Tisfa butane lighter. I carry an Olight SR1 that I can’t tell you how many times I was glad I had it in my pocket! I have a small Field Notes pad with an EDC pen my wife bought for me. I carry fingernail clippers and SS teeth picks in a sterile air tight cylinder. I’m old school with my wallet and I use an old school key ring. There’s always a handkerchief in my back pocket. I’m not looking for the most pricey stuff nor do I look for the cheapest. Everything is pretty consistent, none of this changes much. There’s about 8 feet of paracord on my wrist along with my choice of 4 different watches I like. And of course I carry an Apple 12. And lastly…I “carry”. I do feel “together” when I’m out and about. I appreciate your channel! From Gallia County Ohio…PEACE!
I have my primary carry, which is a SAK of some sort, a diy hank, a Leatherman Rebar, and a single torch butane Zippo. In my wax canvas Viperade VE1 i always keep in my pocket, i have a rite in the rain notebook, 1.3mm mechanical pencil, Olight i5R, the Stanley 4 in 1 screwdriver, a backup knife of some sort, 58mm SAK, a boo boo kit, some duct tape, shrink wrap and zip ties. In my everyday life, i find myself needing to fix a bunch of different stuff, and help others with what they might need. Especially being a musician, never know when you need to tighten up a strap button, fix a loose input jack, tidy your nails, etc.
I "EDC" for fixing stuff around the house, yard, and moments in public I need to fix things, or clean stuff up. AND I EDC for rare emergency moments that I hope do not happen but I have an upper hand IF they do happen. 😁 People wonder what I mean by fixing stuff in public? I rode my bike last year along a bridge near to where it crossed a highway and the sidewalk was blocked by like 30 limbs of tree branches still attached to a big tree that fell, so I whipped out my multitool and used the saw to cut the thicker branches off, then the wire cutters on the pliers to clip off the thinner branches, and moved it all into the woods nearby. That, alone, should tell you that random crap happens, be ready for those moments. It feels good to have such convenience right in my pockets.☺️ I walked around my backyard and cleaned up some weeds growing tall right near the woods with my multitool. I tighten up loose screws around the house with my multitool. A pitbull got loose from neighbors house and charged me while on my bike at a stop sign. I had pepper spray and a knife ready if he latched onto my arm. I had to pepper spray someone who wanted to fight me, they ran like the wind. Over 20 years ago, my friends were hanging out, walking down the street at night and a big group of guys wanted to start a fight. My friend doused em with pepper spray (we were bail enforcement agents back then). Cops came soon after, we showed em ID and were let go. I can bring up more but that's just a few random situations you can find yourself in WHEN ITS NOT EXPECTED. So do not become complacent and let your guard down, people. Most victims are thee ones who never prepared for bad situations because they never happened before... until it did happen, and then it was too late. They learned their lesson the hard way.
My EDC is for comfort, convenience, and conditions. I have had the same MR Rip-Ruck 15 for several years and haven't even looked at other bags. I still carry the original Leatherman I got for HS graduation in 1989.
Hello Marine X. I just subscribed to your channel recently. I am a veteran like yourself and I think you and I see eye to eye on many things when it comes to EDC. I believe there are several types or degrees of EDC/Survival/Preparedness based on your environment. For example a person from Florida will probably have a slightly different edc setup as a person from Montana etc etc. For me EDC is pretty much a religion . I am always looking forward and thinking of ways that I can improve my EDC. Anyway, I just want to say that I appreciate what you do on this channel. Keep it up.
I recently started my edc collection over. I moved and I had built my nephews each a kit. So now I have nothing but a few pieces. Looking for recs on some knives I can beat up. This video will help me start off correctly and not just out buying tools and what not because it’s cool. Thanks for everything man.
I started watching your channel the other month and you seem to be the most practical person on TH-cam doing this. I use a flashlight more than anything, but at Christmas time my multi tool got a lot of unexpected use. Everyone is going to need different things… like I use notebooks a lot, but it is work & habit related. What is your take on always having a pair of multi-purpose or general gloves?
I love my leatherman wave. As far as knives on my person EVERY DAY, it is the wave and the Milwaukee fastback. Sometimes i wear my Mora Garberg on my belt. I will not spend 150 $ or more for a 5 inch + knife, there are too many good knives for 100$ or less. In saying that, if my income where to rise significantly i may buy like a William Collins knife or another good knife maker that is not a high production business. But for now, a good solid well known , time tested folder, fixed blade that have wood , solid rubberised or micarda scales with a decent blade steel is just fine for this old fart. My step dad gave me a old buck knife with a leather sheath that i had for years. I gave it to my foster brother when i went into the Navy. He lost it. That knife served me well. I think it was the 110?? Anyway, its great to have more than one folder or fixed blade to put in different packs, vehicles ect. But ive seen many ppl on TH-cam who buy all this edc gear but you can tell they dont use the gear. So for those who cant buy the knives, flashlights and other edc gear, get what you can afford and ACTUALLY take your gear out and use it, get comfortable with it. If you buy 550 paracord or bankline, practice your knots and use the gear. Thats all i can say, cause thats all i know. Thanks for letting this old submariner ( bubblehead) say this.
My issue is fixed blades I have one in my go bag one in my truck and a drawer full of why I want to go from 30 to 5 solid pieces and what I want is a great sling I use the aer day sling xpac it’s great but I’m a bigger dude and need something bigger that can function as a emergency go bag almost . Great video man . And I have way to many bench mades also
I’d like my edc to help optimize my ability to problem solve and address whatever life throws my way. From simple tasks all the way to worst case scenarios and even being able to help those around me if I’m able too. But without being weighed down so much by too much gear. At the moment carrying a multitool, primary blade, and flashlight is my current goal.
If you're genuinely curious, I have two reasons. First is to have consistency, so I can prevent misplacing or forgetting things. I've already accomplished this and I never feel like I'm missing something. Second is to have as few things as possible accomplish as many of my goals as possible. This is practical goals like a pen, keys, wallet, and also goals that I just have like cordage... I thought I was done but my E&E portion doesn't feel right. I want to add to it, and also fit it on my person better. Right now I carry 8 items + an E&E KIT
I love edc. It’s my passion, but I couldn’t even afford to begin my journey. I recently got custody of my grandson and let’s just say his monster truck fixation is more important than anything I want lol. One day hopefully.
Personally I keep all my superceded gear. Firstly because my kids can learn with it when camping/with the cadets, and secondly because its easy high value barter items for the unprepared if SHTF.
I narrowed my collection if you can even call it that anymore to a Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 31 drop point a small sebenza 21 insingo a strider SMF and a Victorinox spirit x I purged the rest great videos man keep them coming 😎
my endgame is preparedness, function and simplicity and if it looks sexy and fits my vibe that's a bonus. Growing up with ex military and medics in the family - since school i was the kid with a pocket knife, bandages and an all around weird fixer upper + med kit in my bag. Love brick and mortar stores but since recently moving my family to eastern europe (co's f@#k Trudeau) options are rather limited and that makes the function and simplicity hard to judge. I can buy stuff online that it's cheap-er-ish... but as for more expensive gear it's really hard to settle based on reviews, - especially since most reviews are done by dudes and being a girl it's hard to tell how something's really gonna fit and feel. p.s. great channel! Chill, sane, practical, no bs. Just came across you today and you've just earned a new sub ;)
That was a really good video, it didn't do nothing for me personally but I am sure it is helpful for others. (I have had a clear goal in mind when I started EDC)
I feel like a peasant after watching this lol. I just have a Kershaw shuffle 2 and a stream light micro stream flashlight that I’ve been carrying for about two years now. Hey, it’s cheap, but it works!
Let's see a tour X! Pretty please? I like the idea of spending 2 or 4x your hourly pay on an item and going from there. I might start doing that from now on.
For me I tend to be thinking about stuff from the buy it for life idea. I am in my twenties and doing okay, but would like to figure out what can I spend a bit more now for convenience or usage for the rest of my life. It’s why while I have gotten a flashlight and charger, I haven’t gotten a pen or analog watch. Living in Canada I would want the pen and watch to work in the cold and in high humidity as well as high heat with minimal discomfort.
For me, it feels like the trend has slipped from EDC being items most likely to be used regularly. To EDC being all the nifty random items that could possibly be used at some point, under specific situations. I've had a variety of items rolling around my car for years. I decided to get a pouch to organize them better for when I need them. Then it evolved into "I have extra space in this pouch", so I started adding things that are handy if needed. There's so much hype over so many things that it's hard not to get caught up in it and buy more than is needed.
I really want a Leatherman T4 but never seem to have the $ to shell out for one...and I have a mountain of knives and tools that are in the same vain not sure how much I'd actually use it. So I don't want to pay full price for it
Honestly, I use my pry bar more than my pocket knife. I carry mine everyday religiously. I’ve only ever bought one, but I use it all the time. It’s a Lynch All Access Pass 2.5.
I did a study of my edc and found four influencing factors that heavily swayed my gear: TH-cam influencers, bushcraft, preparedness (Prepping), Military/LEO/First Responders.
When you can get your collection set to where you know where everything is, And what drawer the item is in you need you definitely feel accomplished And organized.
I like gear that last. I don’t need the “best money can buy” but I want stuff that I can beat the crap out of and it still works. I don’t treat my gear poorly but I definitely use it. I’d spend a bit more for a knife knowing it’ll last me for years.
For me less is more. If I have more than 10 knives/multitools I get way overwhelmed and only carry one thing. I sold so much shit last year and have it down to 8. I’m much better about rotation and enjoying! I do still keep my kit tools though. I don’t count those in the same category. I probably have 12 or so kits across my bags/truck/etc.
I was wondering the same thing. For me more of an every day smoke would be BLTC or a plasencia 151/149 but a once a month or special occasion smoke would be pardon 1964 or plasencia Alma fuerte
My endgame is a Zaan or an Arius, ideally both😊 But, I will never get there if I keep spending my money on Civivi’s and Kizers 😂 I guess I’ve become a collector now, I’m just enjoying the ride. I’m not quite where you are X, but I can see myself there in a couple years. What really scares me is that once you spend a little more on a piece of gear it just keeps getting easier and easier to pull the trigger on that next big purchase 😅
In my opinion, when you start talking about the label EDC vs. things that you just happen to carry everyday, the difference is intention. Most people carry things with them every day out of necessity or habit. It’s autopilot. When people talk about being into “EDC” it means they’re slowing down to put thought and intention behind the items they carry.
I’m not jealous nor envious of your EDC stuff. I do however get inspiration from your garage/man cave space. I’m “stealing” some of your ideas for my garage.
My goal was having shit for every ocassion. From back packs just need 1 for everyday (already have outdoors, bigger sling bag and small one) Folding knives want dumb big one (have kizer in ti + s35vn for most days and purple baby banter for shorts and casual outfits) Organizers have for all ocassions maybe buy box organizers from helikon for travel. Have 1 multi tool no need for more, 2 flashlights and 1 notebook from moleskin with leather cover and minimalist wallet both from local maker. No need for more of those items.
EDC is the Answer to Bilibo Baggins riddle: "What's in my pocket?" My Precious. The purpose of having multiple items is that they can be located in multiple places, giving you a greater opportunity to use them. That said buy more Dental floss, put them everywhere and floss your teeth when you find some down time. When you are trying to build good habits, give yourself every opportunity to succeed. More and more we are inundated with ideas that are not our own, because modern technology has made us more accessible than any time in the past. Before you buy some idea, ask yourself where did that idea originate. This is called Idea Tracing. Some times that source of bad ideas comes from your well meaning friend, you know the one that always has bad ideas and if you don't know who I'm talking about look in the mirror you might be that guy. Don't be that guy. Ideas that you think you think, do not belong to you. Every thought you have ever had originates from your environment, the question you never asked about the thoughts you think: Is that idea something I accept as my own or am I rejecting it because that is not who I am? This is what free will looks like and you must practice it or you will subjected to which ever way the wind blows. The last piece of advise is to surround yourself with people that have good ideas to increase the chance that good ideas come your way. Contra-wise culling friends that have bad ideas might be necessary when their bad ideas become your problem.
X ! you have way too much redundancy in that drawer. I bet you don't have a grail chef knife like a Bob Kramer. Liquidate the extra redundancy and pick-up a culinary slicing masterpiece that will headline at your next BBQ.
Hey if you ever gift tools I would love to have a Leatherman… anyone that you don’t want or like… I never had one!!! Not that I am Begging just don’t know what’s a good brand and style of knife or multi tool!!! I will pay for it
I wish I watched this before I went and bought another knife and flashlight yesterday😝🫡 Mehhh into the boom stick cabinet with the rest of my gear. Great video X, love your videos and how real you keep it. Happy new year to everyone!

The qsp penguin is an amazing knife for cheap
Outdoor edge is nice. They come with replaceable blades. Only knife I carry anymore.

Good advice. As the great Ron Kwok would say, "Live with purpose". I consistently use that when deciding on a purchase.

That Big Worm picture is amazing.
I really enjoy these episodes discussing the purpose of edc and as you put it before “deinfluencing”. Keep up the great work X.
Thanks much brother! And all your content from watches to mics and more is great
I feel like a peasant after watching this lol. I just have a Kershaw shuffle 2 and a stream light micro stream flashlight that I’ve been carrying for about two years now. Hey, it’s cheap, but it works!
@@silvercommander probably not but who knows how much money he’s making off TH-cam. I’m not hating at all. He’s got great information!
That Big Perm….I mean Big Worm painting is BAD ASS!!!
Right?! I was immediately looking for a comment about that!!
I like the 2 hour constraint for limiting your effort dedicated to individual purchases.
Works like a charm
I like gear that last. I don’t need the “best money can buy” but I want stuff that I can beat the crap out of and it still works. I don’t treat my gear poorly but I definitely use it. I’d spend a bit more for a knife knowing it’ll last me for years.
Regarding seeing what other people have, I tend to feel joy. That's my super power.
What Cigar are you smoking and what are your general go to cigars?
I was wondering the same thing. For me more of an every day smoke would be BLTC or a plasencia 151/149 but a once a month or special occasion smoke would be pardon 1964 or plasencia Alma fuerte
That Menace II Society poster go crazy 👏🏽❤️
Peace bro! What sling is that hanging in the background between the Friday and menace posters?
Review coming soon. Secret sauce
@@MarineX Yea I kind of figured it was something you haven’t shown yet. Looking forward to it.
Prepping and EDC can be an obsession ask me how i know. 😎 Im getting ready to cull my stuff. Semper Fi
I’m not jealous nor envious of your EDC stuff. I do however get inspiration from your garage/man cave space. I’m “stealing” some of your ideas for my garage.
Can’t wait to see the finished product
Do where do we go to buy dome of the stuff your off loading?
My goal was having shit for every ocassion.
From back packs just need 1 for everyday (already have outdoors, bigger sling bag and small one)
Folding knives want dumb big one (have kizer in ti + s35vn for most days and purple baby banter for shorts and casual outfits)
Organizers have for all ocassions maybe buy box organizers from helikon for travel.
Have 1 multi tool no need for more, 2 flashlights and 1 notebook from moleskin with leather cover and minimalist wallet both from local maker. No need for more of those items.
This video fits right into my unspoken edc new years res. Which is quality over quantity. Now let's get the tour of your gluttonous cabinet. lol
Hold up😅.!!! I need to save up before the liquidation sale!!! O, yes, to that tour!!
what did you shoot this on that the aspect ratio is crispy?
4:3. I upload talking head in this aspect ratio when it’s slower pace sometimes.
Looks great! Also the collection looks like the best type of addiction to me lol@@MarineX
i would like to see a tour of your work bench
So many great points!
we want a tour! and... special request can you make it a TIER list??? I wanna know what your S tier gear is after years of ownership!!
@SilverCommander he's done tier lists on live stream before, ya noob. Get off my nuts 😆
The EDC stuff is dope, but I gotta know. Where did you get the art on the wall?
Thanks. www.icanvas.com/
Question, why are you not a fan of Titanium knives?
They just feel slippery and heavy to me in certain scenarios
Looking forward to hearing what you think of that new Nutsac Sling hanging there, X!
(Not Nutsac) ;) They got a competitor giving that same good feeling. But the two new Nutsac Slings look interesting
What cabinet is that where you have everything?
Husky 62 inch from Home Depot
Yeah the Tour!
Thank you X!
Gimme dat tour sir!
My end game is to 1) be prepared, 2) be useful to others.
Totally makes sense
Great video X.
Haha. The wingman is trash!! I’m still aggravated that leatherman killed the juice line. Love the content devil
Let’s see a tour
Again right on mark
X ! you have way too much redundancy in that drawer. I bet you don't have a grail chef knife like a Bob Kramer. Liquidate the extra redundancy and pick-up a culinary slicing masterpiece that will headline at your next BBQ.
i see a boomstick 😎😎
Hey if you ever gift tools I would love to have a Leatherman… anyone that you don’t want or like… I never had one!!! Not that I am
Begging just don’t know what’s a good brand and style of knife or multi tool!!! I will pay for it
I'll take a pry off your hands! I use my knife to pry shit open at work constantly lol
What up big perm, I mean big worm. 😂
It is a video about obsession.
I feel better because i thought my addiction for man gadgets was out of hand lol healthy habit though
you have tooooo much knifes..., but flashlights, your volume is ok. I have 26 axes.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wish I watched this before I went and bought another knife and flashlight yesterday😝🫡 Mehhh into the boom stick cabinet with the rest of my gear. Great video X, love your videos and how real you keep it. Happy new year to everyone!
