@Sean Savage I'm further away from owning one than I've ever been, considering the current economic climate and my personal debt situation. Appreciate the response though, good to see my priorities were in the right place in 2009
@@LimeGuy101 Oh no.. I was hoping to hear something better. But yes, the economy is brutal and that makes it tough to get things like a dream car. That's damn true!!!... hell now for a new vichles they want 50 thousand or more....just think if you took 40 thousand dollars back in 1969. How many vichles can you buy....
Why is it nobody ever says they wished they made the same money they did in '69? The average full-time worker pulled down $9400 a year. I was working for $2.85 an hour then at a gas station.
My high school car. I paid $700 in '76 for it. Alum mags, 70's in front, 60's in the rear, gold with white top, 318, sold it to a guy that never paid me. sob

Those "special wheel covers" are nearly impossible to find today and are worth megabucks if you have a set. I always wince when these same wheel covers fly off the black Charger during the chase scene in "Bullitt".

from when cars weren't tiny, ugly, plastic bubbles, and commercials weren't so annoying as to want to shut off the T.V. It's a shame that I wasn't born until '84, but at least I got to watch a certain orange one of these go airborne a lot. :)
If that commercial came on TV, I'de go right down to the "Dodge Boys" and buy a 100 for $3000 each, all with 426's --- store them in a vaccum sealed bags for 40 years, keep 3 or 4 for myself and sell the rest of them--- and then I'de have more money than Bill Gates... If we only knew...
I can't believe there is so much " cartoon " instead of the car in this TV ad. The car sells itself,,,,and still does in the collector market. I've owned a 69 Charger since 1985, and looking back, at such a beautiful, muscled design, I would've fired everyone in marketing!
I grew up with those cars. VERY few cars were produced in the late 60's and 70's with six cylinder engines. Gas was so cheap, no one cared about "fuel economy". The US government in the 70's REQUIRED that a certain number of "econo" models were on the lot for every large V8 on the lot. That's a fact. There were many reasons that US auto sales declined, but government medeling was part of the equation.
Amazing that the car itself was not shown until 0:35 into the commercial. Plus, the selling points were a vinyl top, whitewalls and wheelcovers?? When I think of '69 Chargers, I think of wide tires, slotted mag wheels and a 426 Hemi (or 440).
@label1877 Well... your half right. SAE did change the horse power calcutions, no question. How they did it wasn't by measuring rear wheel horse power. SAE Net is still done at the flywheel, except it requires all engine driven accessories to be attached, an air filter and a full exhaust system. In the old gross HP days, they didn't even have to run the water pump!! Open exhaust! Open air filter! Yea, SAE Net changed everything.
It's good to see an effort. Lexus had the top spot for the last 14 years, it's about time. it should be noted that Toyota/Lexus rolled the competition in almost everything else, with a few wins from Nissan and Lincoln.
@VladBlok28 Ford is now called Ford Global. It is a multinational company, it would really be a stretch to call it an American Company now. Ford owns many foreign car companies now like Volvo, Saab, Jaguar, land rover. They buy and sell divisions often so they probably have bought some other companies and dumped some since I last read.
@IwontConform They destroyed 222 or so to make the series, but because of the series thousands were saved and restored. You cannot ignore that factror. If not for the series people would have said, "18 year old car in a barnm, crush it."

seen one for sale on ebay bidding got to 120,000. car had 6, yes six original miles on it. included stickers and the seat belts were still in plastic. this was about 2008 or so.
@amyhuk Not according to what I read. And the real number of cars destroyed was pretty high, which means that it's not exactly easy to restore one of those cars if parts aren't be reproduced and NOS parts are too expensive.
Yes, you strike a good argument. But were they not portrayed as vigilante's? I never really new where they stood on the whole thing, only saw a few episodes lol

@realbogus You guys may not know but up until 1971... h.p. ratings were measured off the flywheel and not at the drive wheel.
If it has 426 at the crank with the 426 Hemi, then I estimate around 408 at the wheels
the '69's split grill was awesome! I didn't like the tailights of the '68 so,now we're even!

love the old comercials

Both mom and step mom had them . 68 and a 70
