I have sensitive skin and one bad shave can give me hives for weeks. The multi-blade disposables work best to truly clean my face, and I alternate with a electric razor when my skin gets irritated. Find what makes you feel comfortable day to day, save the glam for special occasions.
This was a good overview of the different razor types, however, I would like to share some safety razor specific knowledge. Firstly I would like to start with the golden rule of safety razors: Your Mileage May Vary. Every razor and blade combination will behave differently for everyone so if anyone decides to go down the safety razor path my biggest recommendation is get a blade sample pack. Find what works best for you. Next I would like to give some general recommendations for a safety razor. My first recommendation is the Leaf and Twig razors. They are a fantastic pair and work best together. The Leaf emulates a cartridge razor and uses three blade halves for a triple blade experience and it's sister razor the Twig uses the last blade half. The Leaf is a really easy to use razor and great for shavig the face and body and the Twig is great for detail work around the moustache and pubic area. My second and more affordable recommendation is the Henson razor. The Henson is precision machined and shaped in such a way that it's constantly guiding you to the correct angle. It requires more technique than the Leaf and Twig combo but not as much as other safety razors and it's an all in one solution. As a bonus the Henson comes in several colours, my personal favourite being the purple. Moving on to blade longevity this is where I must invoke the golden rule: YMMV. I find for me personally, if I'm having a lazy week I can get four shaves if just doing my face (Twig if only doing detail work should last longer). My regular shave routine I get about two full body shaves out of a blade. The blades I personally buy are under $0.10 CAD per blade when I buy the hundred pack so the cost still comes in well under cartridge razors and even the most premium of blades is roughly $0.33 CAD per blade and different blades can last shorter or longer. YMMV. If anyone stumbles on this comment please know that Ieave email notifications for replies on and am willing to answer any questions.
Just ordered from Leaf Shaving... the duo pack so I get both the Leaf and Twig. It's over $200CAD... so I'll let you know. I hope it's good because that's no small change for a single mother on fixed income.
@@shaerayne56 Yea the price went up on both the Leaf and Henson since making this comment, I still think they're excellent options but it'll take longer for savings to catch up. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also another thing to mention girlies, FIGURE OUT THE GRAIN OF YOUR FACIAL HAIR!!! I know we all dont want to interact with it anymore then we have to, but if possible let it grow for a few days/however long you need just to the point where if you drag your fingers across your face, you can feel what direction its growing in (ie, the more resistance you feel, then your fingers are going across the grain, when it feels smoother youre going with the grain). The reason this is important (if not the most important) is that going with and against the grain does different things. Going against the grain will give a smooth shave but will irritate, cut, and generally not be nice if you arent super careful. I have a wierd grain on my face where my cheeks grow towards my mouth and my neck hair grows sideways from left to right up until just under my chin where it switches. I used to get a LOT of irritation before i figured it out and went with the grain for every shave which works in my case. If you have thicker/more frequent growth, it might be good to go against the grain and might be easier since youve got more to remove but still be incredibly careful. Also! Pre-shave is amazing and will help give extra cushion if you have sensative skin, i use poraso which is decently priced and works well in my case but experiment with as many brands as is reasonable for you. Im also a shaving nerd who mixes my stuff in a bowl instead of just using barbasol which id reccomend not really for any practical reason but i like it cause it makes the whole process feel like a treat. Get my soft brush, work it all in as good as i can, then get my safety or shavette and take my time. If you find shaving aggrivating id genuinely suggest it to try and make it more fun for you, we all love pampering ourselves, right? If you want to learn how to use brush and bowl/straight razor and safety razor shaving, id look at a channel called Geofatboy. Its very much a 'guys' shaving tutorial but ive found he makes it the clearest for me, and the vibe is kinda just like a friendly dad. Good luck girlies
@@DimitriaSparrow I'm afraid those explanations are passing right by me. The only thing I'm sure of is that YOU are a "Long, Cool Woman!" Not to mention very pretty, which I'm sure is included in that. Good luck with your channel.

Can you please tell me what are these techniques you mentioned?
Dimitria, excuse my ‘elderly’ ignorance but I don’t know what ‘long’ means in your byline.
Haha, it’s frankly the opposite of millennial slang and whatnot. If you’re into classic rock it’ll ring some bells!

Charles Lurio thx so much, you’re so sweet! All the best to you!
