  • The Mater Heart Run is a cherished annual event in the Kenyan calendar, dedicated to supporting heart surgeries for needy children. Launched in 2002 as a primary fundraising initiative for the Mater Cardiac Program, the event initially took place only in Nairobi. Over the years, it has expanded to eleven towns across Kenya, including Mombasa, Machakos, Kakamega, Kisumu, Meru, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, Kericho, and Bomet.
In 2008, Mater Hospital furthered its commitment to cardiac health by starting free cardiac outreach screening camps nationwide. These camps screen for heart ailments and educate communities about preventable acquired heart disease, which, if ignored, could be fatal.
This year's Mater Heart Run was held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the University, drawing Kenyans from all walks of life to support this noble cause. Thank you all for the generosity and participation, the Mater Cardiac Program has saved over 3,000 lives to date.
