Within this, you can probably hear what would be the future Goal Horn of the Ottawa Senators, it's an Airchime M3H salvaged from an FP9 that was scrapped in 1995.
Feeling proud. At 15:00 Could very much be my Grandfather driving The Canadian. When he retired his last run Cartier to Mactier was the last day VIA had The Canadian on CP Rail January 1990. The last Engineer to drive through Sudbury on that line.
My Grandfather ran the Canadian after retiring from CN in the mid-80s, shortly after Hinton. He ran it on the Ottawa to Montreal and back segment, retired in 1993 with one of the last runs of the FP9s
Then the CTCUM (Montreal Urban Community Transit Commission), becoming later the STCUM (From Commission to Corporation), and today the STM (since the 2002 towns and cities mass mergers mandated by the Government of Quebec. "Montreal Transit Corporation" for the translation). This was the West Island commuter train service, from then Windsor Station (now Lucien-L'Allier Station, since the Bell Centre was erected) to (Vaudreuil-)Dorion with some trains extended to Hudson and Rigaud. Operated by CP, this service was transferred (along all other commuter lines, including the CN-operated Montreal-Deux-Montagnes line) to a provincial-level transit agency, the AMT (for "Metropolitan Transit Agency"), somewhere in the mid-1990s. This latter got reorganized about 10 years ago (now under the name of ARTM, for "Metropolitan Regional Transit Authority"), and now uses the "exo" brand, and this scheme got expanded to include all bus lines in the suburbs surrounding Montreal, Laval and Longueuil (each operating their own local transit systems).
Great catches on some old MLW road power. Smoke and awe. Well done. Thanks for posting as a great part of CN's history.
