Another day, another dust collection chute. In this video I walk you through my process of launching a product. There is a lot more that goes into it than just designing up some widget to sell! I hope this video was at least entertaining...

I purchased a dust collector for my Hercules sliding miter saw and can say with 100% assurance it works way better than the factory offering. Thanks for the efforts to improve dust management.
After comparing the Hercules to DW 780 I went Herc route and have been using this thing hard for the last 3 years, fantastic accurate saw with awful dust collection. Like this guy I’m a an engineer who unfortunately cant help but figure out problems, when I got tired of the saw dust flying everywhere I bought a $10 piece of kitchen silicone and cut it to fit the saw and installed….works like a champ! I recently found another TH-camr who did something similar. $10 works fantastic and doesn’t collapse when vac is on like factory setup.
Just ordered one for my DW715. I've been watching your experiments for a while. My own half-vast solution of Cheerios boxes, craft foam, hot melt glue and a lot of duck tape falls apart every couple of weeks. Your elegant solution is well worth the price.
I'm not much of a "shop" person (more of a coder type) but shop stuff is interesting. What makes me watch this channel is that this is really a Masters curriculum in business / operations / marketing / financial management for the modern high-tech small business entreprenuer. Very well thought out content.
Mine came in two weeks ago and what difference it has made. It’s literally a day and night difference in my shop. My dewalt 780 was the last thing creating uncontrollable dust, but after your upgrade it’s like I barely notice it’s been running. Couldn’t thank you enough.
I bought one of your dust collection systems for the Bosch axial glide saw. Works great and quality is top notch.
I bought the dust chute for my Bosch 12" axial glide and it was a game changer, worked far better then I expected. Easy to install, super fast shipping, quality product, and very highly recommend it.
Absolute Master class on marketing, behind the scenes, and display of value. Some of the best content I have seen in a while to promote a service or product.
“Making 💩 just takes time”. Truer words have never been spoken. It’s a plus that your target customers are woodworkers who understand this concept lol. It takes a lot of designing and planning time for me to just to get a project to the point of going to the lumberyard. I can’t imagine planning and preparing for a scale as large as yours Travis.
I have been waiting for you to make one for the 715 since you started. I didn't even wait till the end the video to order this one. Can't wait to use it.
You saved me from commenting the same exact thing
I bought one for my DeWalt sliding compound mitre saw and I have to say that it works wonderfully. If you are considering one, do it and you will not be sorry.
Cool to see another maker has tackled the Dewalt miter saw dust collection problem. I started working on a solution about 4 years ago and got side tracked into other projects. Good job!
Got mine several months ago, installed and it works better than expected...Much thanks!
Great job showing a glimpse behind the amount of work put into making something like this.
I’ve been waiting for this one to come out. I appreciate the time and effort you have done to work on these non-sliding saws.
Placed an order today. Can’t wait to improve the quality of my work environment. Thank you sir!
Also, as someone who spends every January making sausage, I appreciate the making sausage comment. My dad keeps his recipes in a notebook where nobody knows where it is.
Any market for doing one for a DW708? I'd be happy to buy one and do any fitment testing you need.
Yeah me too.
Do you know anything about the DW705? I am tempted to get a DW715 one and see if it can be adapted to fit.
I asked about trying the 715 on the 705 … no reply.
Dude, you've really elevated the production values & quality of your vids. They look great.
Thank you!
@@ShopNation what filament material is it made with?
The one you're making for the 12" Makita. I need it for the 10" version please.
I have DW705 also, I saw that someone else in the comments has one too. Will the DW715 version work for the DW705? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your journey. I am currently studying digigal fabrication and can honestly say I look at what you do as an inspiration for what to create and what the true process takes. Love the content and keep it up!
I purchased one for my DeWalt. Easy to install. I'm thrilled with the results.
I can appreciate what goes on behind the scenes, having designed and produced a high tech electronic product for a niche industry. Congratulations! I look forward to using your dust collector!
Are you considering any RYOBI miter saws for future dust collection adapters?
As someone who spent years involved in initially the design and prototyping of computers and consumer electronics, and then in the manufacturing of said products… Amen brother!
I have been on your waitlist for this one. Can’t wait and appreciate your efforts!
You are the best, I have always enjoyed Shop Nation, thank you.
Ordered it the moment it became available and I can't wait to get it on my saw!
Thanks for creating these. I ordered one yesterday as soon as I got your email saying they are ready. And yes, it's hard to be patient when like today I was out in the beautiful weather creating loads of sawdust.
OMG. I was just cutting with my saw last week and the dust was AWFUL. I am going to make sure I have the right model, then dude, it's on!
I just installed the dust collector on my DWS715 and it works excellent! You said it doesn't collect it all but for me I think it gets 99% of it. I always had sawdust out the side but this has stopped that cold. Thank you for a product that actually works.
I agree 100 percent.
Do you Chute for DW705 available?
I have all these same issue but for my Soap business. lol. Great video. One thing what do you do with the printers you no longer use or swap out?
Did you shoot all of the narrative parts in front of the green screen or did you shoot narrative both w/green and in the shop? It looks great either way!
Green screen was only used for a short bit where I appeared over footage of myself, all of the talking head parts were shot in the main shop area
I ordered the dust collector for my DWS782 and it is awesome. Very little dust escaping compared to before. Thanks for your efforts to perfect the “OEM garbage “ dust collection 😆👌
I bought one of your gadgets for my Dewalt saw. It fit funny and contacted the blade. Just drilled one mounting hole a tad larger and that thing works great! I’d bet 97 maybe 98% of dust collected. Thank you.
Tha amount of effort and planning you put into these and 2 days in I still haven’t gone to the garage to confirm my saw model before ordering one. Definitely going to get one just need to pause one of the 4 times a day I walk by my miter saw.
How about design for Ryobi? Many backyard hobbyist use these saw.
Would you say this item is just a dust collector or a particulate collector? Have you tested on cutting PVC, cementitious siding or metal (steel and aluminum)?
Just for curiosity, question, at what point does farming it out to injection molding become cost effective?
Sounds like an interesting video topic 😉
Fantastic video! Question about this design - at 7:54 in the “before” shot, you can see the small cut piece fly off unobstructed behind the saw, and at 7:58 in the “after” it gets sorta jammed up by the new dust hood. Could it be a safety concern that there’s now no clear ejection path for small cut fragments to disperse? Or even if not safety, they could bounce back, get under the blade and mess up your current cut, cause quality issues, etc?
I can say this... I am absolutely 110% happy with the dust chute I ordered from you!!! Yes shipping took awhile and yes im not a patient man🤣 BUT... It made it way more exciting to open the box when it arrived..!
Although it doesn't collect 100% of the dust I would have to say its damn close depending on the type of cut being made. I work with MDF alot & we all know how nastey the dust is from it. I now have a clean mitersaw station without clouds of dust being shot everywhere.
Oh and the Shop Nation sticker included is a great touch. Made me smile.
Should look into using CPAP hoses instead, they're smooth inside and flexible. Just better, less turbulent airflow. Makes for better suction 😊
Like your 16x12 Camphouse, do you ever plan on doing any smaller building plans in the 12x8 range, like a Coop? I plan on milling rough cut lumber so it would be cool if it had some detail like your Camphouse, just curious. Great channel just found it
I've been waiting for this, just purchased one, thank you! Can't wait to test it out.
Ironically I was talking to someone on a FB group 2 days ago about this EXACT thing! Her comment was that you didn’t have a unit for a DeWalt. I then showed her my cardboard. Packing tape, yards price tag, PVC, and painter’s tape masterpiece (we will discuss how and when you got into my shop to pilfer my IP later, I mean, all ya had to do was ask)
So now I will tell her that through the power of her positive thinking, or extreme whining, that you have “just whipped one up” and she can dash over and pick one out for her very own.
But only after I get one first - your color choices are so much nicer than mine, I simply MUST have one!
Thank you !!!!
Hey Travis. Love your content. I wonder if you have any feedback from users of your dust collection enhancements when used along with zero clearance fence/throat plate modifications. I have recently added zero clearance mods to my DW715 and now I find that the dust does not make it to the back of the saw where even the subpar factory collection system could extract the dust.
Wow how inspiring you are. Really admire your problem solving abilities, grit and engineering skills. God bless you. Will be ordering for my Bosch miter saw. 👍🙏
RESPECT for what you do and appreciation for how you do it!
Now all I need is your solution to my Hitachi C12RSH dust devil 😢
Question - will this fit the older DW708 miter saws? Currently I'm using a trash bag duct taped to the unit which at least lets the dust fall to the floor.
Interesting to see a bit more of the product launch process. Now to patiently await the launch of the Makita LS1219L version.
I would love one for my Dewalt 12” sliding. I bought it used, and the label was scuffed so I can’t tell the model. Is there a way to tell which one I would need?
If the parallel bars off the back are next to eachother and not stacked on top of eachother, it will likely fit the 779/780 dust chute model I have
@@ShopNation Thanks! Side by side.
Wow! This was an unexpectedly informative experience. Ironically, I just put a DW715 in my Amazon shopping cart last night.
I’ve bought It for the dewalt. Fantastic product.
Since you are making these dust collector options. One very cool idea would be to make a zero clearance plate that closes off the underside portion of the zero clearance plate so dust doesn't collect underneath the saw and improves dust collection even more. And then you can make it a package deal on your site with these attachments.
Like figure out how deep the saw blade plunges into the base. Create an enclosure under that has some kind of vent that will direct the dust right back into your dust collector attachment.
I'm already a fan of the 780 version.. I bought 2 for my shop. If you ever get to the Milwaukee 7.25" miter saw I would personally buy another dust collector attachment from you.
I bought the SN adapter for my BOSCH mitre
saw un real difference in dust collection.Make sure you have a decent dust collection method. Thanks SN!!!!
One trade off here is that you have to remove the dust collection add on to be able to remove the blade. So factor that extra time in when choosing this type of product, worth it for me but not advertised!!!
I wish I had seen this earlier. I just spent the last day or two designing, making, redesigning, and remaking a dust chute from the usual carboard and duct tape. Mine works great as long as I don't want to bevel cut. So I ordered yours with the 2 hose adapters.
Great job.
Do you make them just for Dewalt?
I broke the dist collection on my Ryobi and your shop is the first place I went for a new one. Unfortunately I did not see a Ryobi offering.
Again awesome video, design, and updates. Still hoping you’ll be able to make one for the DW706 which is a dual bevel 12”.
Small tip: If you're trying to thwart the idea stealing snakes, make sure your Bambulab printers are not connected to a network as they upload the gcode for every print to Bambulabs if they have the ability to talk to the internet. 3D Musketeers just did a video about this. Bambu have claimed multiple times that they do not collect gcode files, but the printers upload logs for every print you do that contains gcode files regardless of if you opted out of the data collection program or not. If they're lying about that, what else are they lying about? Stick to the prusas IMO.
WoW Proud of you, wish i felt better and had that kind of energy.
Hey Travis. great video. In your video you had a picture of the plywood cart (5:19 on video), but I can't find plans for it in your shop. Do you still sell the plans for that?
Hey Travis, I recently purchased the DWS779/780 dust collection system. If this works nearly as well as the one I purchased, then it will be another winner and make a lot of people happy. Keep up the greatness!
Have you come up with attachment to better the dust collection on delta model 10 radial arm saw
are you willing to share where you get your large spools of filament?
Hi Travis. I'm still waiting patiently for someone to come up with a better solution for the Festool Kapex K60. Not the cordless version, but the corded version, which you don't have in the US. I bought mine 3 years ago, but the dust collection is nowhere near as good as it could be. Have you done any trials with the KSC60, as I'm sure the layout would be very similar? Thanks. G
I have the harbor freight 12” compound miter saw. Any chance you can make one for these saws?
Mr. I click on the link to buy your product but it does not provide a part for the dewalt, either on your store
The link in the description should go directly to the product I'm referring to
On a sliding miter saw, it makes sense for the dust collection to be on the arm to follow the blade, but on a non sliding how well would it work having the dust collection on the base aiming up at the saw? Maybe still have a small shield on the arm to prevent the saw dust from shooting up and over the back of the saw. I wonder if it would eliminate some of the dust that makes its way under the saw.
I may have to mock up one and see how it works
I bought the one for my delta cruder and absolutely love it! If you need testers let me know 😉
Focus group feedback and continuous improvement is key. You’ve put a lot of hard work and dedication into improving dust collection that is much needed and glad to see your hard work paying off! 👍
Oh the gripping nostalgia of Dewalt tools…I remember when I was a beginner
I see you're working on a dust collection chute for the Metabo 12" saw, any idea if it will fit the 10" model? I have the C10FSHC and it looks very similar to the C12RSH2 you're listing on the website. I would be happy to test it!!
Congratz on your venture - much luck to you!
Would you happen to have a solution for the Ryobi Compound Miter Saw??
One of my favorite TH-camrs. Great content with just the right touch of humor. Keep it up!
Any plans for DEWALT 20V MAX 7-1/4-Inch Compact Portable Miter Saw, ?
I just went to my shop to check the model of my DeWalt, hoping I could order one of these. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered I have a 713.
...is it weird that I kinda want to buy a saw that will support a Shop Nation dust chute?
The crazy thing is with these new Miter saws is my 22 year old 10" saw is fantastic with dust collection. The bag is meh, but with a shop vac connected the only dust produced is large chips ejected forward.
Love your channel, and purchased a dust collector for my Hercules miter saw ... it works great!!!
Lots of planning and prep work to create a product from scratch for sure. I need to check your line to see if you have one that will fit my Bosch 12 inch slider, which I think would be a great help for it
Do you make a dust collection version for the harbor freight Hercules brand miter saw?
any chance you might design something for Metabo's mitre saws? Specifically the C10FCGSM ? I know it's an inexpensive saw, but it's my first and other than dust management it's perfect for my small shop 😢
awesome content - good luck with the new shop project ❤
Do any of these work with the Skil saw mitre saw?
Skil 10" Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw - MS6305-00
Planning to buy the Bosch 12 device. Love to see one made for my old DW708. Hooking a vac to its bag port does almost nothing.
I got your dust attachment for the DeWalt DW735, love it. Can I maybe suggest a new journey to design? Lathe dust control, maybe starting at the midi-lathe sized (14x20ish) dust collection. Many have tried, all have failed. Rockler has the "best" option on the market and it is subpar but better tha nothing.
I happily volunteer myself as a test subject for a journey to create useful dust collection for lathes. Yes, it would help with wood but with hybrid and resin turning especially.
Hope all the work pays off. Just imagine if you had gone down the road of magnetic ratchet, socket, wrench, organization! Infinite sizes, colors types etc. (quality out there is all over the map too). Keep up the shop greatness standard.
Seems like a good product, but I noticed that there’s still sawdust that gets out. Which makes me wonder, could you make a table that deals with this? Like sort of the inverse of an air hockey table? Maybe an air hockey table would do it.
But anyway, what if your table had holes in it and then under the table there was negative air pressure not quite as strong as a vacuum that would pull the sawdust down underneath and then collect it?
Love that the before picture is with the factory's dust collection already removed...because I'm guessing you threw it away after your first prototype worked. Anyway, it doesn't do that much better than what you showed, so we're good. Gotta go see if you have something for a Hitachi sliding miter....
Do you have one for a dewalt 12" DW708 type 4 sliding compound miter. The saw is about 23 years and the dust collection snout is completely gone
I'm wondering if this will work on another miter saw that appears to be very similar to the DWXXX. I'll get some information together and email you directly with the details.
are you using push plastic for PETG supply?
I wonder if redesigning the blade guard and integrating dust collection into that would be another improvement. Similar to a table saw blade guard hood with dust collection. Travis, I challenge thee to experiment.
Moooooooom!!! Travis made a beer bong!!!
Nice Design. What filament do you use. I make RC hobby parts and like your finish.
I know the DW705, the DW715 predecessor, is similar but not the same. have you taken a look at that model?
Do you make one for a makita 10”?
This thing is awesome. It works!!!
Love the content and products you’re putting out! Just curious, if you’re going to be releasing your yearly channel revenue breakdown video?
