Ok I don't know if I have commented on this yet, but damn. That's about as sexy as music can be. Look at that silvertone. Jeez. Props, and love from mississippi.
Really nice version of it man. I remember getting goosebumps when I was around 12 or 13 hearing it in the movie while Willie brown is monologuing over it. Still sounds good as hell no matter who's playing it.
Wow...thank you for the memories. Bought my Silvertone from Sears in my hometown of Washington, DC in 1959. It was on this so cool guitar that I discovered that I would never be a guitar player, but I so enjoyed the sound it made. Lived within hearing distance of Link Wray and I use to hear him and his band practicing all the time from their home...what a treat. That was a wonderful time for music and our great country...thanks for sharing and you sound great...yes I'm jealous...David
I never had one, but I knew several guys that did, so I got to play them occasionally. Interesting guitars that were great if they were set up right. Pickups were a real crapshoot at times. My first guitar was a 1983 Ibanez Roadstar II. It had what they called "quarter-pounder" pickups - 3 Fender type single coils with big fat 1/4" polepieces. It had a 5-way selector switch, and a little silver phase switch that worked in positions 2 and 4. Playing with these switches and the volume knob, you could make this guitar sound like a Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, whatever. It was the single most versatile guitar I ever had, and I have kicked myself in the ass many times for selling it.
man, you made me buy a '60 silvertone today, I didn't even know the model but I was very amazed at how you made it sound. very well done, congratulations. Lots of blues in you. I'm from Chile, and this video gave me the impression that the Jupiter works very well with slide, obviously the guitarrist is the most important thing. Cheers
What some people did not know about Silvertone Guitars was that when they milled the necks they were somewhat bended or bent so the silvertones always had a peculiar sound . Which is why this piece sounds sooooo Damn Awsome . You played den blues boy !!!!!
that was some beautiful shit man always loved that tune... blues aint nothing but a good man feelin bad.. thinkin about the woman he was once with-Crossroads
I just posted a comment a few days ago , and there are a lot of people on youtube who do this song , I particularly have 3 that are the best but of the 3 I always come back to This ONE . And my explanation is because the way you play this and the Silvertone Jupiter your Using gives it a Bright new style on a beautiful Dreary piece. At one point I rock my head my head on your downbeats and then you put brite work on it , I love it Man the BEST !!!!
Maybe I would place a bet against! The amp is "todays equipment" and this is in my opinion the big part of the sound. I'm not sure about the part of the pickups and the cardboard body ...
I really enjoyed this - my father played a very similar Harmony Stratotone through the early 60's. Great to hear slide on this similar model. thanks for posting from Canada (I think I shall learn this great tune).
Nicely done! I have fun with my Silvertone and Harmoney/Aldus Tuxedos. Love the lipstick pups. So few demos bring out the real tone possibilities of these guitars. Thanks!
God damn, son you must be hurtin' the way you got them blues! Haha but seriously, that sounded incredible. I've never squinted and said "ooh!" out loud to a TH-cam video before. Lol
Great Job!!I heard someone saying about how the Major 3 was what really gave this it’s flavour somewhere. I didn’t know really what that meant. Then I saw this Sonny Landreth vid on here and although he was kinda talking about something else it all of a sudden made a lot more sense to me.
Interesting subject! This piece uses the major third often - in the fingerstyle bass line and also in the turn around melody ... In general I would suggest to practice the clean minor third, the clean major third and the not so clean first blue note in between. I like to play the minor third and slide up a bit to the blue note and maybe slide a bit more sharper and out of the tone while stop ringing it. This feels for me very bluesy.
The original is still the best version in my humble opinion. Did you hear first Joes cover? I heard two of Joes versions and both have a very good sound ...
...Lots of towns...lots of songs....lots of women....good times, bad times...only thing I wanted anybody to say was, "he could really play......he was good"
The blues ain't nothin' but a good man feelin' bad.
This song reminds of the time my wife ran away with my best friend. I sure do miss him.
Lol
That’s the best comment I have ever read on TH-cam-lmao!!!
Shiiitttt I'd miss him too
😂

This guy is amazing I’ve listened to this so many times and each time it sounds better

Fine job on that old tune ..we all had a Silvertone when we were young. They have a tone that's all their own. Perfect for this tune.

WOW! thats AMAZING! that sound is AWESOME! And I like that improvising too, its not just a strict cover. Love it, guy!
Yes not that strict anymore. It comes from playing it for decades ... after learning it note by note.
The lick from 1:02 to 1:07 makes me especially glad to be alive. Well done, sir. Seriously - Well done. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for your comment. This feels like I still could play this guitar ... or get vibes from it without owning it anymore.

And yes - some times I think about signing at the crossroads...
Great Job!!I heard someone saying about how the Major 3 was what really gave this it’s flavour somewhere. I didn’t know really what that meant. Then I saw this Sonny Landreth vid on here and although he was kinda talking about something else it all of a sudden made a lot more sense to me.

Best version I've heard yet.., too bad it wasn't longer... Great work.

I used to lust after those guitars in my Houston Sears store when I was 12.
