I've mapped these out all over the neck and seeing the pattern between major and minor. After memorizing the pentatonic scale for years and struggling to develop licks from it, these smaller and simple patterns seem to be almost a better place to start than learning full pentatonic positions. I feel that I am making more progress this way in deciphering the fretboard than I ever could by trying to memorize notes and longer patterns. Rusty your lessons have been so useful in enlightening me about patterns and how the fretboard is connected. I am a former keyboard player, and it has been a long-time struggle to change from that mind set to the fretboard beyond learning chords. Your lessons are enjoyable, just challenging enough, rewarding enough, that my energy has been renewed. Wonderful teacher.
That’s great SK!!! Most players don’t try to map out and memorize things. And that’s why they stay stuck. So I’m glad you have a great foundation. Learning to make music with those groups of notes is the challenge but it sounds like you’re really moving forward. Thanks a lot for watching my lessons and have a great rest of your weekend.👍
First off I want to congratulate you on 100k subscribers. You are an amazing guitarist and teacher Rusty!! And secondly we really appreciate all you share and teach . Great video as always. Thanks man 😎👍
Wow! Thanks so much, my brother 🤛 Not many people support me this way and I really do appreciate it!!! if you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I hope to see you soon👍

Congratulations on 100 k subscribers... ......you never fail to deliver consistently good easy to follow tutorials Rusty.........your teaching style is the best.........Paul from Ireland
What a timely video and another tool in my bag. As always, you brought a teaching moment for me and your students. Simply brilliant. Again I picked up my guitar and played it while on pause. When I first started getting serious about licks and solos I wrote everything down in a notebook. To some degree I still write solos down but I just try to work out the music that is in my head. Thank you so much Rusty. God Bless you. 🙏🙏
Right on Russ! It sounds like you’re really moving forward and you’re playing. Many thanks for all your support. And blessings to you also my brother.🙏
Hey Rusty! The Allman Brothers band made an entire career in that E major pentatonic lol.... Cool lesson, thank you. PS ~ I love the Allman Brothers too, it wasn't meant as a dig really.
I really love me some Allman brothers Guitar that’s for sure! Breaking down that style would make a great topic. Always good to hear from you Tommy. Thanks.👍
Hey Rusty! Love the simplicity of the way you present this lesson. Great to hear you playing on the middle pick up - mouth watering sound. This and your other extended pentatonic videos have helped me stay relaxed and pay attention to the fretboard while hearing how the major and minor scales work together. Thank you!
Just 100K Obviously you tube is not sharing your Channel because your Really an Incredible Guitarist and your lessons are spot on Not a lot of talking you let your Guitar do the Talking Much ❤🌴 ⛵ 🌊 🎵 🐠 🏖️ ⏳ 🐶 😺❤TX
One important point not mentioned, probably because it's likely a beginner topic: Listen closely to Rusty's playing. Every individual note has feeling, character, depth. I bet he could play a one note "solo" that would sound great. I'm still working on that. But Rusty gives me goals to aspire to. Great stuff, even if still above my skill level.
Thanks for supporting my channel all this time! Sorry I don’t have any download ready. But by locating the E root, you can find the major or minor box. Catch you later.👍
Another fine example, Less is Best in 4 notes or less says volumes !!! Better take notes folks Rusty has the Lord in his heart and bleeds the blues through his fingers !
Hey Bill, there are really no rules. But the major box does sound great over the A7 and B7 chords. I use the simple four note technique myself, but I target the notes in each chord as they go by in the 12 bar progression. I hope you have fun with it! Thanks.👍
Take those 5 CAGED Minor Pentatonic boxes, and to 1-b3-4-5-b7 start adding, one by one 3-b5-6-2 (in that order). Now you’ve got Mixolydian plus b3/b5 from the Blues scale.
