I bought mine in 2010. I still wear it most days and I still love it. I do get stopped occasionally in airports or hotels by guys that know watches. Interestingly in 10 years I’ve never seen another one in the wild.
YOU are a very bad influence. I was at the Omega Museum in Biel today and wandering over to their Boutique..... The rest is history. I'm fortunate, or not, to have an 8.75" wrist and it fits great. Now the question is, do I still need my Sub?
The moment Talking Heads came on my first thought was "there is water...at the bottom of the ocean!" Evan, you are fast becoming my favorite watch reviewer. It's borderline criminal that you only have 13k subscribers...the quality of your videos is exceptional. Beautiful photography, sharp editing, great storytelling and humor, and a personal honesty that is straightforward but not offensive. Tim Mosso is the walking encyclopedia, Teddy Baldassare is the relatable everyman, and Wei Koh is the insufferable douche- but your videos bring a clever, creative, and fun spin to a topic that others take too seriously. Well done my dude!
Your videos keep getting better, and I always look forward to them. Just a few comments.... 1. Your wife is a keeper. Obviously I’ve never met her, but the only comment that I get from my wife is that she thinks my Panerai is hideous, or rolling her eyes when she tells me she signed for another package. 2. I love it that you can put anything on a Colareb strap and it looks great. 3. Anyone who can use “eschewing” in a watch video gets extra points.
Congratulations! It took a couple of months before my wife warmed up to my Ploprof.. she loves it now as much as I do! Welcome to the ploprof club 🤙 and enjoy!
Other than the Moonwatch, the ploprof is the coolest Omega. And also, if ever saw someone wearing a proplof, I would have to go up and say something. Surely they are a fellow watch lover. Cheers!
So great to see some watch videos that aren’t just Submariner, Submariner, Royal Oak, GMT-Master, Nautilus, Submariner... Thank you for to some real variety here. It’s almost like you have a copy of my wish list and are ticking watches off one by one...
Just bought mine. Same one. Was teetering back and forth but seeing this video put me over the edge and now I am a proud owner. Thanks Yourterrific guy.
OMG!! I bought this watch yesterday - same version! Will collect it next week! Cannot wait to have it on the wrist.Screw what the masses think! I love the look of this Funky 70's style watch!
No question it’s a badass looking watch. I’ve never actually seen one in the wild. At a dealer, yeah. But never on anyone’s wrist and I’ve been to more countries than most. Having those micro adjustments on the clasp is HUGE. It makes all the difference in the world for wearability.
Exactly, same problem 'solving' that Seiko tried. Although, once you're in sat at pressure, if you don't equalize by unscrewing the crown before blowdown, you can absolutely forget about unscrewing the crown to change the time or date until decompression! At that pressure, a monkey wrench would damage the crown before it budged - and sometimes time changes are needed. HEVs are fairly handy in some cases. Crazy cool watch through, its so unique.
Ive been wanting this watch forever, always ended up buying something else! Seen a lot of videos on this piece, love how you presented this, probably the best. Definitely to be my next purchase!
Do you know what? Yes, it's unusual but it's so unique it's almost an art form. To top it you have a wife who actually encouraged you? Holy sh*t! You're a made man buddy. Take care.
Omega has crossed into objet d'art territory, which is a great thing coming from an old brand. Many companies (ahem, Rolex) are looking a little staid in recent years, so it's nice to see these outlandish releases.
The helium part in the video is incorrect. Later tests proved, that the original Monobloc-Ploprof from the 1970s was indeed helium-proof. Comex just went with the more normal looking Sea-dweller. And contrary to the explanation (taking time) in the video, one of the reasons for that choice was just the fact that Rolex finished it faster, while it took Omega 3 years to develop the Ploprof. The new Ploprof does the Titanium right, since that was originally meant to be the material for the watch-case. But it definitely loses on other ends. The purpose of the monobloc design is overwritten. The pusher was originally red, while the minutes hand orange for visibility. The new one just has both orange (so much for form follows function). The overall case shape and design with the pressure variable gaskets on the original was more functional, while the new one is vertically symmetrical and designed to be a big shiny luxury piece. It doesn't follow up on many of the innovations of the original Ploprof. It's not a bad watch, and definitely an interesting timepiece. But it fails to reach the coolness of the original Omega Seamaster 600 Ploprof.
Fairs, fair, no one should deny good information, research and knowledge, it's core to watching content like this - we are afterall all here to understand and learn.. Absolutely correct sir, in everything said! There is a strange fascination with this piece, as a function of depth, theres certainly lots of others more capable, indeed it has a number of very capable contenders that could, 'blow it out of the water' for specs, if you pardon the pun - watch brand Sinn should is more than worthy of recognition. Rolexes leviathon, the deep sea challenger has 10x the rating, but it won't be found sitting in your AD's shop window! This watch has strange credentials, it didn't fulfill it's commission, Rolex did pull the rug from beneath Omegas feet by modifying it's existing submariner by introducing the He escape valve, providing a thicker crystal and renaming it to sea dweller. And perhaps a story of interesting parallels is the Tudor P01,Blancpain being the aggressor this case- another failed commission from the French navy that didn't come to pass. All this aside, there's something that pulls people to this; it's aesthetic is its own (disregarding Seiko Ripley), it's unassuming, brash, with an uncompromising honesty for what it was intended for. Bizarre in every way, it doesn't even fit in with any of the other watches I own, but I will one day add this piece - it's just a must have for me !
Super cool video and love the soundtrack! It looks huge, and wasn’t aware this timepiece meets METAS standards. Loving the straps, the orange rubber def works, along with the leather. Good on you for your purchase.
Saw the original as a schoolboy, figured if I became a Sat Diver I could own one. My taste developed to the perfection of Quartz over mechanical and I now have a SBBN015 Seiko Tuna. (But the Proplof is still epic).
You did well, my young padawan.... Cool ass hell and just as brilliantly insane as the guitar solo's on that Remain In Light album.... (also great lines to end the video with)
I owned a vintage (1978) Ploprof for many years. It looks much better than the 'new' version. One of the best watches I have owned (along with the Glycine Airman SST). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
omega was solving the right problem as a helium tight case is a better solution to get rid of damage by escaping helium. Rolex just made the cheap/improvised solution as they were not capable of designing a helium tight case. I think its sad that the better engineered solution used by the original Ploprof and some Seiko models(mm300, and the real tunas(600m and 1000m ones excluding the spring drive models) is not enough talked about while everyone acts like the helium escape valve was an innovative solution(the underlining principle is standard and easy and brings a lot of negative attributes to a watch) . every helium escape valve is a potential weakpoint(structuraly), an additional gasket which can fail and a few extra parts which a proper designed helium proof seal could render obsolete. Also the gasket for helium proof cases are superior to the polymere gaskets used on crystals. i think for Omega to drop there superior technology/design(the helium tight monoblock case) to switch to the easier inferior system there opponent (Rolex) used is not the right way to deal with the heritage of the Omega brand.
The Omega Ploprof and the Omega Speedmaster 125th… Two over engineered watches (in the best “old” Omega tradition) that looks HUGE, but are surprisingly wearable on smaller wrists… Thanks for the video!
Don't know how many times I've rewatched this--my favorite watch video. Curious, your thoughts on new 'Summer Blue' release? Maybe more to come...? Thanks, PMc
Great review. As a rule, I only watch reviews if the reviewer has actually himself purchased the watch. Living on the edge of Europe (Ireland!), you don’t ever see the PloProf in the shop windows of the few Omega retailers. Found myself strolling through Istanbul airport very early the other morning, waiting for my flight. Was pleasantly surprised to find the Omega Duty Free boutique open. The two staff members - a man and a woman - were very generous with their time, and very knowledgeable about Omegas. I was amazed to find that they had several Ploprof models on display. I tried them all on. And I fell in love. I have been thinking of treating myself to a Rolex Submariner or Deepsea for my 50th Birthday. But the ability to purchase the Ploprof at Duty Free prices has made it tantalisingly-affordable! So, I’ll be treating myself to a Ploprof (black bezel) in 2022. And it will be nice to have an excuse to return to Istanbul!
Totally confused how this channel only has 19.3 K subscribers... you convinced me to buy the Santos de Cartier and even made me think twice about a Ploprof when I think Panerai's are too big "for me". Anyway I think your content is terrific!?!?
"Don't give me shit about water resistance" Yeah man, it might be water tight for now, but a display case back is just another failure point that can happen in the future. For a desk diver its no biggie, but if i was a saturation diver then i'd see a display case back as a problem. Awesome video mate, keep it up!
I got the steel one quite a few years ago. It came on the mesh strap only. My Mrs bought me the orange omega rubber strap. It’s still on that strap. I wear it occasionally but always take it on holiday with me in case I get to do some diving. I will never get rid of it.
I have to say, I always hated how this watch looks in pictures, but I must admit, it looks really good on your wrist, and looks like a good fun beach or pool watch, or just sporting around watch
What's interesting is the steel vs. titanium versions have subtle but clear differences... the steel includes the date window and a more narrow bezel. I am torn over which I like the look of better. Odd that Omega didn't keep the same bezel specs for the titanium....
Beautiful beautiful beautiful nothing else to say. Perfect watch to have in your collection that others will not have and will only admire. Quick question what size is wrist? The watch looks great on your wrist
Ok. I just tried this thing on. I loved it. Really. But it was just so thick m. It’s that dimension that I don’t think I can live with. How did you? Make me want it more! Tell me how you with your 8? Inch wrist tell yourself it’s ok. I need it

Always wanted one---but never found the right deal---eventually moved on to Rolex---but maybe someday.
Your wife encouraged you to buy a watch, that’s Awesome 😎

i have a vintage monobloc Ploprof with a crown at the right , very rare
An absolute home run, love the Ploprof!
Other than the Moonwatch, the ploprof is the coolest Omega.

That's the Most Beautiful "Ocean Crawler" I've ever seen so far!!!!
Fantastic videography, composition and lighting. I can tell you really care about this piece and took the time to make it look great. Love it!

The Omega Ploprof and

Two over engineered watches (in the best “old” Omega tradition) that looks HUGE, but are surprisingly wearable on smaller wrists…
Thanks for the video!

This is the greatest ‘ugly’ watch ever. I love it.
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
great looking piece i've just seen one up for sale in my local pawn shop for £5500 with a full service and 2 years warranty! Worth the purchase?
Come for the watch but stay and sub because your sense of humour. Love your narrative work very funny but not force. 10/10
can i just say that i love the choice of music to this video
Great video. A very interesting and unique case design. What is your wrist circumference?
My first time to see this Omega Diver's watch pretty awsom ! Enjoyed your review. One more thing beautiful watch
Love this watch, just tried it on at Boutique this past memorial day weekend. Putting deposit down for the blue bezel one.
The Ploprof is 'Beauty and the Beast' in one package :D
I feel like doing sat diving just looking at this watch!

I love diver watches and have two of them, but who dive with them today?
Yo moma :)
"Considered lethal weapons in twelve States..." That's hilarious! Great purchase, Mate. Hope you're enjoying The Beast.
Great purchase and a commitment timepiece. But man, definitely awesome!

Your wife is awesome and the watch is insane but ... I'll be surprised to see it still in your collection in 2 years
good choice out of all omega line up....
Every time a see a vid about the Ploprof, it is funny to see it worn on the left wrist. Great watch in its own way.
Beautiful. Knight’s armor for a band and a fantastic body. Omega is the best.
Wow the production quality of this video is very high.
I wear watches on my right wrist, I just dont know if the ploprof will look wrong on the right wrist !
Funnily it was built to prevent helium ingress but now it has a helium escape valve...
Congratulations! That's a seriously handsome watch. Is this a keeper, or do you think you'll flip it later?
I have to say, I always hated how this watch looks in pictures, but I must admit, it looks really good on your wrist, and looks like a good fun beach or pool watch, or just sporting around watch
This is a badass review for a badass watch! Nice!
That is superb. Great purchase. Love the idea of the size vs weight.
I am saving towards one - I want the white face with blue bezel
I FINALLY got one!!!! This watch is seriously wild and I love it.
Congratulations! Please don't forget to do a long term review later.
What's interesting is the steel vs. titanium versions have subtle but clear differences... the steel includes the date window and a more narrow bezel. I am torn over which I like the look of better. Odd that Omega didn't keep the same bezel specs for the titanium....

This watch is bad-arse. Well done.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful nothing else to say. Perfect watch to have in your collection that others will not have and will only admire. Quick question what size is wrist? The watch looks great on your wrist

cool watch, it's my dream, what is your wrist size ? thank you!
Was half hoping we'd get a Ploprof over sleeve shot haha
You're insane!
Its a must have for anyone who really likes watches. Unique.
Ok.
I just tried this thing on. I loved it. Really. But it was just so thick m. It’s that dimension that I don’t think I can live with. How did you? Make me want it more! Tell me how you with your 8? Inch wrist tell yourself it’s ok. I need it
