Have to be careful with the new PI laws in the Philippines. It really doesn't even cost that. You just need to know someone who can go down to the local gov office and have her CENOMAR pulled. But if you mess up and let it slip that you hired a PI and she knows about the laws then you probably messed up going to the Philippines. We know 2 guys they've deported for hiring and invading privacy.
EXACTKLY. He got off cheap aside from the embarrassment of it all. Another reason to take your time..... we will get together when *I* open the gate olololol
Yeah, I have no idea why he didn't just cut his booking short, pay for the 2-3 nights he had money for, go get some money, then extend his stay. Why give up the passport?
Better yet he should’ve had a place booked ahead of time before he left the USA for at least a month or two I always do that and I never have a problem. I mean here he was with his girlfriend at some temporary place, not knowing where he’s going to stay next and he’s already in the Philippines that’s too short notice to get a good deal. I always get half off, my rooms because I stay so long and I do it online and I tend to stay at the nicer places
I'm happily married and have been living in SE Asia for over 5 years. My advice is to fall in love with the country before you even think about falling in love with a woman.
Mark, you are a not the first or the last to get scammed. My first time in Philippines back in 1996, I lost $3000 to a gambling scam, which maxed out my credit card so I was unable to pay my hotel bill. That sucked! I always made a paper copy of my passport and had that with me and locked up my passport. I'm retired Air Force and will be retiring from the Veteran Affairs in a couple of weeks. I will be back in the Philippines in March. I'm not sure where you are at but If I see you I will buy a drink. I've been married to a wonderful Filipino for 19 years now. It good that you are not desperately looking for someone and are cautious. Take care and be safe! Pea, Your channel is awesome and I enjoy watching them! Thank you!
It boggles my mind how these guys say they studied everything about the Philippines as far as the do’s and the don’ts, and yet they do all the don’ts anyway. Don’t meet a Filipina online. He did it anyway. Don’t let the Filipina meet you at the airport. He did it anyway. Don’t let her spend the night with you if you can’t secure your valuables. He did it anyway. He also said they were planning to find place to live together. He was ready to move in with a woman he just met. And I bet you he has already heard multiple horror stories of other guys doing that. But he was ready to do it anyway. Fellas get your little head under control.
I did everything he did in 2010 and everything worked fine. She and I started talking online She picked me up from the airport (she actually got inside the arrival building. Which is pretty unique. Back then Filipinos/Filipinas are/were NOT allowed to enter the arrival (and departure) building. We went to the booked hotel The next day she took me to her parents place where I was introduced to her mom, dad & brother. And after that we were still together. Only difference was and is, I had to return back home to get back to work. There is another difference between the guy in the interview and me. I didnt have any money on me. And no laptop either.
It's shamefull that guy's over 50 are learning life's lessons in a foreign land. Not smart at all. I'm 54 same as he. You'd never hear/see me on any one's vlog telling you about it either.
Chatted up my Filipina online for a year. Filipina greet you at the airport man. So did mines. Meeting someone overseas is like investing in stocks. Don't invest anything you're not willing to lose. 5 years later we're married & still together. Bad situations occur, they exist in every country & every walk of life. But they're not the majority.
@@haighton Yes, you have made the point that guys like @pleaseactright1 always miss: That there are success stories. It's those success stories that cause guys to make the decision to take a chance. And it is especially easy to convince oneself to take a chance when there seems to be no rational reason for the Filipina to betray your trust. Talking all day to someone for 6 months, introducing him to family and friends, meeting the guy at the airport, then ghosting him...for $250? When staying with him might have yielded a lifetime of access to a loving husband AND his money? It's irrational. But it obviously happens.
This video has opened my eyes, because I have been talking to several Filipinas from a dating site and I am planning on going there. But the scams obviously run deeper
Never ever try to get a Philippina. Never! You know Philippines’s in Asia as much the same Mexicans for USA, Ukrainians for Germany , maybe it sounds racist but it is what it is
I’m Mark also hope my story be better been to the PH to meet a girl did not work only money I lost willing and dining excessively but it’s ok I had a great time
Wow his story was a nightmare, I will be visiting Cebu Philippines very soon hope that never experience any close to what he went through. Thanks for sharing your experience it helps me to be more prepared.
She just didn’t like what she saw when she met him in person. Money is powerful and is very tempting when she knew she wasn’t coming back. Poor guy, I wonder just how often this really happens?
That's exactly what I was thinking. Putting 6 months of daily effort for a $250 payout would not make sense so I don't think that was her plan. Something about the guy put her off once they met and once she could see there was no future there, there was no reason not to burn that bridge by stealing his money
Good lesson. My mindset going into my first trip (they worked for me): 1) Nothing is real until you meet in person. 2) Never travel *only* to meet someone. Plan a bunch of other reasons…food, sightseeing, museums, etc. It takes the pressure off of both parties in the event that there is no ‘chemistry’. 3) Rent accommodations through airb&b, there are lots of protections, especially if it’s a condo with security guard(s).
Airbnb doesn't have as much protection as you think. I've rented a place before that was extremely unsafe and it took tons of phone calls to get a partial refund back
@ I’ve been using Airb&b for 11 years, multiple times/year. Never had a problem that was not resolved successfully. How much protection do you think I think it has, and how do you know that it doesn’t have as much protection as I think? Because you had an unsatisfactory experience? 🤷🏻♂️
@@markreynolds5363 You claim that "there are lots of protections". I'm telling you that's not always the case. I had an incident where I had to call 911 and Airbnb completely ignored me and refused to give a refund until multiple phone calls later. And even then, it was only a partial refund for the days I didn't use when I left early. I got zero compensation above that. There's a good chance you just got lucky or booked in nicer locations than I have. There are tons of comments on this video talking about how guys made all the same mistakes as the guy in the video and got married and now have happy lives (and they understand they got lucky). But this video is important for people to watch so that they don't make these mistakes. Your comment about taking precautions about these things is the exact same thing I'm doing in my comment telling people to take precautions on airbnb and not thinking that everything will be easily resolved on that platform. Just because some people get lucky with meeting a girl online or using airbnb doesn't mean people shouldn't be cautious of both of those things.

I'm sorry I'm not an Alpha male. I'm sorry I'm not an experienced world traveler. This is my first time outside the U.S.. I'm sorry I fell for someone online. I'm sorry for everything stupid thing I did. Lesson learned, but some of you people are just down right mean. I hope to never run into you in the PH. For those that listened to my story and didn't feel the need to chastise me, thank you.
No chastisement here, Mark! I don’t think you did anything wrong besides succumbing to the ‘online temptation’ 👍😊 But you know what the sweetest revenge is? Stay here and flourish - and do a follow-up of you with a smiling face 👍😊
It's not your fault you got scammed, if you're the guy in the vid. Besides I think it happens to most guys that come here now, maybe not as much in just a few days, still I think most of us have gotten scammed one way or another here. It's one of the drawbacks nowadays in the Ph. in my opinon, scams or dishonest behaviour related to housing or relationships. Good that you brought up your experiences so other can learn. Many say nothing and I've heard of ppl getting scammed, for way bigger money than you, so don't worry about what some says. They probably feel bad themselves for being scammed way more than you, and hide it behind hate 🙃
Chin up, buddy. You're only out $250 and you still have your health and your freedom. Many many men have made much worse mistakes than you. Learn from them, move on, and don't worry about the opinions of others. "The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself"
People online with no accountability are very quick to judge and criticise - sharing your story and being open about what you did and the mistakes you made is admirable, and people who see themselves as alphas but go around criticising people on TH-cam are cringe - hope the years ahead are the best of your life!
The more videos I watch the luckier I feel. My story started almost exactly like his but in the morning she was still with me. Went to meet her family and now we're going on 3 years and working on a K1.
This is super re assuring. I'm in a similar situation. Younger woman, been talking not terribly long so still new. Planning a trip to meet after the new year. I'm optimistic still, but seeing stories like this makes me a bit nervous. A lot of similarities. I've spoken to the mother on the phone. Everything. Wish me luck I guess..
Heartbreaking story. Seems like a good guy. Imagine spending 6 months of your time cultivating what you think is the beginning of a relationship, taking the leap traveling to a foreign country, just to get robbed by the woman you've grown into liking. Mark, if you read this, best of luck!
I'm truly grateful for my lady. We have now been married 2 and a half years, together since February of 2019. My mother in law is about to celebrate her 80th birthday. I love my family in the Philippines.

Exactly. Not at a hotel. No car rental. Even if they insist. No. Your passport is also not your possession: it belongs to the country that issued it. ( and you paid an issuing fee and you are responsible for it)
It is normal for a hotel (their deposit), it is covered by police - immigration - barangay registration identification requirements, usually just first night

Hello Pea, I do have advantage over most expats in the Philippines. I was raised from a young age with pilipino's that lived next door. The first time I went to the Philippines was at a young age of 18. That was in the mid 70's and got stationed there in 83. I continued visiting till I retired from the Navy then a few times after that with my family. My elder kids last visit was right before there lola pasted in July. I am now retired for a second time and will head home to (Iloilo) to spend my life with my second filipina bride, we have been together over 18 yrs and we have 2 kids in college and 1 in 1st grade. So yes ldr's do work if you work together and talk to each other.
This is why a lot of foriners get fleeced, arms wide open for it, why would you trust people you don't even know, would you do that in your own country?? No, so why do it there, shake your head man
My dearest Pea, your interview with the unfortunate gentleman was really interesting. I would have just given up and returned back to the states. And with her husband who is living in the place that he rented for her while he tried to get her passport to Germany. I have mentioned this before pea in another comment, in a different video of yours. He now lives in Thailand with the woman that he loves and loves him. Pea, been watching your channel for a long time and love it. I am a prior Marine who had the opportunity to travel to Asia during my time in the service going back 26 years ago at this point and found my love for Asian women and how superior they are to western women imho. Filipinas were the best of them. What makes them superior is their heart and their ability to see the heart in other people. So humble and genuine. Of course there are the outliers but you have those everywhere. But I do have to say out of all the Filipinas I have seen on your channel and others, you are the most beautiful and complete package of them all! Keep doing what you’re doing and God bless you for all you do!
True, but I’ve spent time with him on several occasions 😉👍 And LDR’s aren’t as risky for women - it’s the men that have a lot to lose, which is why I don’t recommend them. In my case, however, he’s safe - I’ve been publicly vetted for almost half a decade, and he can reasonably conclude I’m not a scammer … or so he thinks! Bwahahahaaaa 🤣

Slow down and pay attention to what is going on, learn a little Basyan and you will find what you are seeking. Respectfully Rick
She played the long con and took homeboy for a sucker. Let it be a lesson, everyone, you don't know somebody until you've met them in person and spent actual time with them. Y'all need to get off this long distance, over the phone bullshit. It gives off desperate energy and gold diggers can pick that up from halfway across the world
I chatted to an attractive Chinese girl for nearly a year on-line. She wanted me to pay for her visa and airfare to England which would have cost around £2000 ($2,600) She sent me lots of photos of herself and promised to meet me at London Heathrow. How can someone you have never met expect you to lay out that kind of money? It didn't work.
Have to say one more thing...............cut off all communication connected with this woman, including the son..............please dont waist one more minute of energy even thinking about them.......cut it off!!!!! go on.........super nice guy........get grounded.......meet good people..........take your time and yes as Pea said........let things happen organicly.....
Met a guy in Poblacion who had come out similarly to meet his LDR. She was a PNP employee. Met at the airport and went to the hotel. At the hotel, the family was in the room the entire time till late. No alone time. A trip to Siargao Island resort for fun--with the family. Bottom line, family was ALL over the girl ALL the time; no chance to sit and talk quietly or (whatever) and this went on for enough days that one morning, he just upped and left his Siargao resort hotel, went to the mainland, and flew to Manila. No word, no goodbye. Just consternation. She tried to reinsinuate herself into the relationship but he just wouldn't have it--feeling she was too subject to family protectionism. Didn't bode well for him, he thought. Now he's reported that he's a bit of a rake--he goes from area to area and lives wherever he pleases--hires women as he pleases, and he flits from province to province and girl to girl. He says he's much happier. Huh.
I think she honestly thought she could be attracted to an older, squishy, very white guy with medical issues; but, once they "did some exploring" in the hotel room, she realized that she was just creeped out and/or grossed out. Then she made the bad decision to just take some money for her trouble and run.
Scammers in Duma? No way. Just innocent students and call center employees from the province. All nice young people eager to show you the waterfalls, beaches and volcanoes.
@16:39 I’ve stayed in hostels in Manila and didn’t have any issues. Most folks who stay there are other backpackers in their 20s. Really sorry this happened to you but I hope you still enjoy the Philippines.
i dont even like flying into MNL. Go through Cebu! ;) Stay in the Province areas and learn the people and you'll love 'em!!!!! They will teach you everything you need to know! and NEVER give anyone your passport... fk em!
One cannot have a "relationship' with someone they have never met... LDR would be spending time apart of someone you have a real relationship with. And that is tough. but thinking you have a relationship with someone you have never met... Nope.
I met my soon to be wife in that manner and I was blessed to be with a high value woman and serious about love too. She would be great to interview in one of your videos if ever.
Don’t date single moms!!!!!!! Meet the lady in person before getting serious. Forget online relationships, meet girls in the PI. You never know what the girl is really like online no matter how much you think you do. Meet her family before serious.
Jeez, I must have really lucked out. I met my lady online, LDR for about 6 months, traveled to and from the Philippines 3 times before proposing and bringing her back to the US. We just celebrated 5 years of married bliss.
Homework before visiting the Philippines checklist: 1a) Get to know the languages. 1b) Leave the women alone. 2) Establish a friendly relationship with a trustworthy person. 3) Establish multiple ways to get cash. 4) Secure accommodations thru a trusted professional real estate agent. 5) Build the highest wall around my personal feelings to avoid getting duped. 6) Plan on enjoying the locals and natural beauty. 7) Avoid Manilla if possible. Just a quick checklist that came to mind upon viewing the latest installment from that Filipina named Pea. Have a great evening. I am currently preparing for yet another hurricane. I'm well north of the expected trajectory and praying for minimal impact locally and that everyone stays safe and healthy. Until next time, it's been my pleasure. Now, beat it, lady.😂
@tomlorenz4344 Too much of an explorer, Tom. Experiencing different cultures/places has always beaten staying at home. I can get scammed here. Just ask my uncle, who got duped out of about $80K looking for love in all the wrong places. You can learn a lot from others; mostly what NOT to do. Cheers!
What BS this is… learn the language before you visit a foreign country? Stay away from women ( sounds gay to me😅)? Accomodation by a real estate agent? So hotels are not OK nor booking sites? Several ways of cash? Ok, travelers cheques maybe than. Total crap.
@woutergijs5246 If you watched the video, you'd be aware that is where Mark had problems. May I suggest you work on comprehension. Since Jerry said 'before going', avoiding women would suggest to me he's talking about dating sites. That's not gay, that's being intelligent since they're generally scam alleys. If Jerry wants to use a real estate agent for a short term rental, there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, he may find a deal with someone who's trustworthy instead of getting screwed like Mark. Furthermore, having a grasp on the most common language, will take you far with the locals. Have you ever been in an area where no one but you spoke English? Yea, didn't think so.
When I stay in Manila we always stay at the Golden Phoenix Hotel. 4 to 5 star rating 3 restaurants in the hotel plus awesome gym, free Breakfast Buffet with every night stay you won't be disappointed in the Buffet trust me. There are 3 banks within 50 feet with atm 🏧. Stay their you will thank me
Honestly this man has some seriously bad luck. Scammed by a girl, atm cards don't work, crap and fake hotels. No offence but it's seriously depressing to listen to. 😔
Facebook love, chat room, love, sites that help you hook up that you actually pay money. It’s all a waste of time! Just go to the Philippines and find a lawyer get a prenuptial and then go find a woman. You should find somebody within a day. You’ve gotta be smart.
You got off very light bro. I been scammed many times and am experienced with many Philippines. It seems chemistry wasn't there with her, It happens all the time. I think maybe she would have continued but she obviously thought get out while she can and 250 is just a little compensation for her inconvenience. I'm not taking her side because she was very wrong but I think this is also a possible scenario. I hope you were kind enough Pea to tell him the possibility of this cruel truth and I understand this is just more juicy material for you pea to support your channel. I can see your a newbie green horn and your a prime candidate for the many Philippines scammers, they will see you coming. Just be very carful over there.
This is why I love Vietnam so much. Everyone so polite and helpful. I once left my wallet in back seat of a Saigon taxi. Didn't even realize it until 3 hours later the front desk called my room and said a taxi driver just returned my wallet to the hotel! Completely intact, not a single Dong missing! Not only did he take the time to return it but i assume another honest client found it on back seat and gave it to him! I never get scammy vibes in VN. I stay away from Bui Vien Street, nightclubs and expats so that helps! 🎉😂

To Mark: Never, ever give up your passport to any person except the Police and a Government Official. In fact, it's against the law to do so.

Such a good show!
She and I started talking online
She picked me up from the airport (she actually got inside the arrival building. Which is pretty unique. Back then Filipinos/Filipinas are/were NOT allowed to enter the arrival (and departure) building.
We went to the booked hotel
The next day she took me to her parents place where I was introduced to her mom, dad & brother.
The interviewer can do so many interviews. You will see successes and failures.

It happens non stop. You will never be saying "poor guy" about me i guarantee that..
Could be, or maybe it's just part of her routine. Something tells me it wasn't her first time doing that.
Who's "we"? You got played, dude. You can't be all in just off talking. $250 isn't much so chalk it up as a lesson and keep it moving.
I think you are right. It does seem strange though if she was hanging onto him when they first met like he said. Maybe he just snored too loudly.
Good lesson.
My mindset going into my first trip (they worked for me):
1) Nothing is real until you meet in person.
Good plan 👍👍👍

You could be right.
We’ll probably never know 😳
this is it, exactly. correct analysis.
I agree. You got off lightly my friend. Take your time and look
It would explain why she didn’t rob him blind
Thanks for these videos and warning people who are kind hearted about how many women are just looking for easy money.
Someone from the expat community in dumaguete should talk to this man and give some advise before he gets hit by the next scammer
I’m on it - I’ll help as he needs it 👍
Scammers in Duma? No way. Just innocent students and call center employees from the province. All nice young people eager to show you the waterfalls, beaches and volcanoes.
Sure hope Mark finds the right woman. He seems like a real decent guy.
I think so too 👍❤️
Decent men’s don’t find good women’s. I don’t know why
@16:39 I’ve stayed in hostels in Manila and didn’t have any issues. Most folks who stay there are other backpackers in their 20s. Really sorry this happened to you but I hope you still enjoy the Philippines.
54 looking 40, Philippines is doing him good despite the bad things that happened to him!
Thank you.
Not throwing any shade, but he definitely looks 54
I was shocked when you said your age. You really look 40. Keep being healthy. Thanks for sharing your history. I wish you the best.
I predict good things for him 👍😊
i dont even like flying into MNL.
Nope.
I agree, Jeff 👍
I met my soon to be wife in that manner and I was blessed to be with a high value woman and serious about love too. She would be great to interview in one of your videos if ever.
Thanks my love... I appreciate you.
Don’t date single moms!!!!!!!
Meet the lady in person before getting serious. Forget online relationships, meet girls in the PI. You never know what the girl is really like online no matter how much you think you do. Meet her family before serious.
And don’t date bar girls!!!!
Good morning pea, you're wearing a great smile today
I hope I’m wearing more than that 🥺🤣🤣👍❤️
Jeez, I must have really lucked out. I met my lady online, LDR for about 6 months, traveled to and from the Philippines 3 times before proposing and bringing her back to the US. We just celebrated 5 years of married bliss.
Homework before visiting the Philippines checklist:
1a) Get to know the languages.
That’s actually a pretty good checklist, Jerry 😳👍👍
Or, stay home!
Stay their you will thank me
First trip at The Manila. There after always the 1898.
Just looking at this fellow I am not surprised he got taken. God bless him.
Honestly this man has some seriously bad luck.
Scammed by a girl, atm cards don't work, crap and fake hotels.
No offence but it's seriously depressing to listen to. 😔
Imagine how depressing it is to live through.
@@markmitera4521 I have had much worse happen with traveling, I ended up with a $3000. hospital bill for well over a week's stay.
Facebook love, chat room, love, sites that help you hook up that you actually pay money. It’s all a waste of time! Just go to the Philippines and find a lawyer get a prenuptial and then go find a woman. You should find somebody within a day. You’ve gotta be smart.
👍👍👍👍👍
I stay away from
Bui Vien Street, nightclubs and expats so that helps! 🎉😂
Wow 👍👍👍👍
It's true, scamming is almost non-exist there. In the Philippines it's the norm.
