One word of caution regarding the Trotec - having worked with one at a previous employer, they can get out of alignment really, really easily. The gantry belts are super tiny and once they start to get a little bit of stretch in them, it's a struggle to get everything back to 0/0. That said, your work is beyond amazing and your success is a true inspiration. May the laser treat you well for all your future customs and keep crafting!

As a hobby leather worker, getting a small laser was by far the best decision of the year! Sure I can't really cut acrylic and stuff like that, but just being able to etch your art into leather goods is so much fun and opened up a whole new level of creativity for me! A laser is just another tool that lets you create, so all that "not hand made" rage is BS.

Started the first 3 years of the business on a rented Trotec they are incredible. REALLY sucks to have go back to a stepper motor after using a Speedy system. The laser hate is at an all-time low these days but I have some hall of fame saved e-mails from a few years ago about how I was "ruining the craft". 😆

Lasers are awesome! We use a Thunder Laser. One thing to note is that with a CO2 laser such as these, you really need to make sure that you are using veg tanned leather (which I know you do). Other tanning processes can cause toxic fumes when hit with the laser.

You have your emboss/deboss the wrong way around. Deboss puts an image into the leather. Emboss raises it up from the surface. So your large crown is embossing.

don't worry about the people complaining you use machines, I mean for me I'm a fulltime painter (of homes) right now, own company so I can't complain but I would love switch to leather craft fulltime someday, I'm doing it a lot in the evening and nights but not yet where I want to be with quality etc. anyway, if you are growing an empire why not be innovative like you are? why hate on being able to do more in less time, I think you're doing a wonderful job and I'm learning a lot from you, thankyou very much and I hope you'll keep up the great work!

I made some acrylic stamps today. The laser is an amazing tool. I cut almost all my leather work on a lasers, I have 2 100w. I talked to a person that takes 30+ minutes to cut out/punch holes of each wallet they make. I make a very similar wallet, I cut out 12 wallets in 20 minutes, stitch holes included.

    • @abarasabwehttam

@@ankval73 Can wet the leather and it wont leave soot. I dont get soot on mine even when dry if using Veg-tan leather. Need to make sure the lowest settings and still cut thru. I make hundreds of wallets, purses etc.

Machines are just cool! They help make things better, faster and more accurate. I mean, I can understand the people „complaining“. They have the comprehension that every single thing has to be done with hand and hand tools. But when something’s works out for someone, why should you differ from that?? If you would do everything by pure hand, people couldn’t afford it at all. As a hobby leather crafter I’d love to have a laser to make these prototypes and get your ideas to leather pieces in no time! But that has to wait until another time!🤪🤓

I use leather mostly as a hobby right now, but I think a laser would be super fun! And I dabble in most art forms, so it would definitely help out with other stuff too! My question is this: is there a cheaper laser somewhere the cost of which could be justified in a smaller, less lucrative case?
