    I watched this comeback special when I was 14 - magical 💖💖💖💖 This was a small venue with fans sitting around. He had not performed in front of people for 7 years thus the comeback special. He looks great in his black leather and it was the 60’s. The Beatles - Led Zeppelin - Steppenwolf and other groups were strong so I guess he wandered how this would go. It was magical. “Elvis was hardly ever nervous - but he was then,” drummer D.J. Fontana tells Rolling Stone, reflecting on the 1968 television special that relaunched Presley’s career. “We played a couple of songs, and it got loose after a while, and it turned out fine. He just had been out of the public eye for a long time.”

    Hahaha, this is the best version anyway. Lol We love all your reactions, but the white suit of If I can Dream is very emotional.

    The white suit version of IF I CAN DREAM is not the white jumpsuits you've been seeing and it is a better version, but Elvis never lip synced a song. This song in the black leather is really a great song. Your really doing a good job with your reactions. Thank you for doing Elvis for us his fans.

      Just Me - Almost right, Elvis did lip sync during the 68 Special, during the production numbers and during the stand up shows he performed a lip synced version of “If I Can Dream”. This version was never shown until it was released as an out take in 2004.

    • @sandralybrand9407
      @sandralybrand9407 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only lip syncing he did if any was some of the songs in movies. But the guys said even if songs were prerecorded Elvis actually sang the songs. He didn't believe in faking it!

    Elvis was fine in whatever he wore. The white suit he wears in the If I Can Dream song is different than the white jumpsuit you’re used to seeing him in. It’s a regular mans dress suit. Thanks for all the Elvis stuff. You’re doing great. :)

    • @ASCENDINGTOHIM
      @ASCENDINGTOHIM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not the suit …it was what he left on the stage .. after he sung If I Can Dream …it was like he was crying for all of us ..,

    I'm on your side with this. I love this look on Elvis. This concert was his first in several years after taking a hiatus from performing. The close up audience and the black leather were both very new looks for the King and he hit it out of the park with this concert.

    By the way, Elvis never lip-synced a song. The suit he wore for the closing of If I Can Dream for the special was not a jumpsuit, it was a gorgeous dress suit. Elvis had many different jumpsuits, the white ones are shown the most because those are the ones that were recorded for a movie and television specials. He also started a fad when he introduced his jumpsuits in 1969 on stage, so many people started copying Elvis and wearing jumpsuits. I don't care what Elvis wore, he was just so GORGEOUS.

      Elvis lip-synched scores of songs. In the 1968 Special he did it for a few songs --including the leather-suited IICD song. He did it live in the white suit.

    Elvis never lip synced a live performance.
    If I Can Dream was recorded as a tribute to Dr Martin Luther King shortly after his assassination.
    This 68 comeback special was a nervous time for him as it was the first live performance for 10 years as his film contract didn’t allow him to perform .
    Great your enjoying this

    When Elvis was in the Army, stationed in Germany,,,, we had "the British Invasion" of music,,,,, The Beatles topping the charts. This "68 Comeback Special" took Elvis over the top again and nobody has ever come close to topping him again. I brag, because I grew up to Elvis's music from the 50s on,,,,,, watching all you people on you-tube really latch on to Elvis and totally enjoy him warms my heart more than you'll ever know😊 thank you❤️

    You getting it all mixed up pal The white suit version of if I can dream the people are saying is not the 70s jumpsuit white suit , elvis sings if I can dream only on the 68 comeback special in 1968..the famous white Elvis one piece jumpsuits didn’t start until a year later in 1969, the white suit of the 68 comeback is a 2 piece normal suit that predates the famous 70s jumpsuits, Elvis’s version in the white suit is the ultimate version of I can dream it ended the the 68 comeback special with a message of hope and racial brotherly harmony & togetherness, the song was written especially for that white suit version

    Dude, you do you! I really enjoy your reactions - New subscriber! The "evil" Elvis - 1968 Come Back special is one of the best live performances Ever!!! You can't go wrong with any of the songs! The "If I Can Dream" performance, in the white suit is the more viewed version. But I prefer the Black suit performance. People think it's Elvis lip syncing to the actual performance - in the white suit- it's not. There are very subtle vocal differences! I have watched the 68 Come Back Special several times and I have to say, hands down, it's my absolute favorite live Elvis performance!!

  • @crimsonking8746

    This video is from his 1968 "comeback special"that was televised on NBC in T.V. studio. This was not a concert.
    Elvis had been out of the music scene for several years due to being contractually obligated to make movies. He was trying to reintroduce himself and start making non-movie music and get back to what made him happy, which was, making music and performing on stage.
    The "white jumpsuits" were his stage attire when he started doing residency in Vegas in the early 70s. He adopted them for his concert tours thereafter, up until his death. There were many different colors from black to blue to even goldish colored jumpsuits.😂(Hey, I didn't say they weren't tacky but, it was the 70s man and "superfy" suits and platform heels were in style too)

    Also don’t ignore his performance as a 19 year old versus him as a 33 year old man. He aged, was in the army for two years, did 29 movies, got married, had a daughter all while the Beatles were a part of the British Invasion with Led Zeppelin, the Byrds, Rolling Stones, and more. Music thought he was in the past. This tv special proved otherwise!

    70,000 people lined the streets outside Graceland on the day of Elvis' funeral. These people just showed up to pay their respects Of you are upset about the disrespect for Elvis. This is the 68 comeback special. You should watch it or buy it.Thid is a leather suit. He got real hot. I'm a fan from 1956. Yes, I was real young, but not too young to see what I liked, still do.

    The reason the stage was so small it was by invitation only, Elvis had been away from live performances for sometime, he was nervous about the reception that he would receive (imagine that), so the Colonel Parker set this type of concert to help with Elvis' being not sure how he would be received by a live concert audience. Elvis for whatever reason thought it might not be a successful. Elvis will be loved forever. RIP Elvis

    The black suit was inspired by demi shirt and pants set that was popular. No one wore a suit that was all leather. The black suit was almost turned into swatches for a special collection for fans to buy. Each record came with a swatch of Elvis's clothes. Someone working for him saved it and some other iconic outfits from the swatch factory.

    The "white jump suit Elvis" is when he started kissing the same ass he used to kick! Las Vegas shows in front of blue haired old ladies, white jump suits with big belt buckles, it was all a joke, and what was sad was he only had yes men around him who couldn't (or wouldn't) help lead him in the right direction. The black leather Elvis was a comeback special he created in 1968 to revive his career after a long lay off. In that time he wasn't doing anything, music was evolving, The Beatles exploded, the world was changing. Elvis started out raw and awesome on Sun Records in 1954. Sam Philips (the owner of Sun Records) sold Elvis to RCA Records in 1955 (for $35,000...I don't think Sam ever got over that massive mistake), then he was drafted into the army in December 1957 (and was sworn-in March 1958). And that was kind of the death knell of his awesome rawness, when the government got a hold of him. When he came back from the army, he was involved with making kooky movies, and his music started to loose its edge. This is when he stopped performing, and the Beatles took over. The 1968 comeback special "black leather Elvis" reunited him with Scotty Moore (his original guitarist) and DJ Fontana (his original drummer), and that's why "black Leather Elvis" sounds so awesome! The black leather Elvis was his attempt at reliving that awesome rawness he had in the 1950's, and he captured it for most of that television special. He was doing that original, raw 1950's material with the guys he originally recorded it with. It's too bad he didn't stick with that, but instead, he became the overweight, white jump suit Elvis. There's no doubt that some of Elvis' latter music was great...burning love, suspicious minds, in the ghetto, etc., but in my humble opinion, none of it holds a candle to the earth shattering, kick the walls down, in you're face music he created rom 1954 to 1957. My recommendation is continue watching videos from the comeback special (the Black leather Elvis), then start listening to studio recordings of the 1950's Elvis, and I would start with his first one "That's Alright Mama", and go forward from there. Just a suggestion. In addition to Elvis, I would highly recommend checking out Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Ray Charles (start with the original Atlantic Records recordings), Robert Johnson, Hank Williams Sr., and definitely check out Led Zeppelin, who were kind of an amalgamation of all of that, plus.
    Peace

      The Vegas 'white jump suit' Elvis was fine in the beginning, it was not an old audience, it was middle-classed and mixed but it didn't really suit Elvis and he was bored by 71 and should have got out and toured overseas. It was totally wrong that the Col. didn't make it happen, if he had, I don't think things would have ended so soon as they did. I always wished Elvis would have joined back up with his original band and sang more rock and blues-style music after his 68 Comeback but the fact is, he was happy with the new band he'd put together and he had always been happy to sing all types of music. Some cannot accept that he also liked gospel, country, and some pop, all of which he performed brilliantly with the TCB band in the early 70s and was happier doing more so than his old RnR songs. Amidst the self-parody of the 70s, imo there were still some amazing highlights throughout and he only became the 'overweight jump suit Elvis' in his last few years. My favorite Elvis is also the 50s! ✌️

      @@JonBurrows3577 It seems as if you believe that you have the right to order me how to behave or feel. Shame. This is my last response. Elvis in front of a live audience of his fans never lipsynched.

    This was his so called come back special ( which is my favorite) This was Before he started the stage performances, they didn't start until 1970. The stage performances was all Elvis that put Everything together! The backup singers, the jumpsuits how the band played and he also hired the orchestra. On stage he has little signals for the band and backup singers. They rehearsed for 2mos before the first show at the international. You can see the rehearsals on the That's the way it is video. It's worth the watch! You also see his sense of humor in alot of the rehearsal videos, After his last shows they would all go to his penthouse and sing gospel songs until daylight. That was the way he wound down from all the energy he put on stage.

    Your fine mate Elvis only wore the black suit in the 68 comback and the white suit for If I can dream .
    In the 70s tours and las vegas and lake takoe engagements he started wearing the jump suits based on karate styles

    This was pure music that is shut up in his bones... why I love his rehearsal, and after concert gospel jam session videos also, its him, the musician raw.

    The If I can dream video in the white suit is not the white jump suit he usually wares. It is a more of a sincere version I guess. And the one thing Elvis never did was lip sync except for the songs in his movies
