  • In this short film I try to load some 400 speed film into a Minox B spy camera from the 1960s. I think this might wind up being a great easy to carry point and shot camera.
I got the film from bluemooncamera.... Like always, they have no idea I am making this video, I just think the camera is cool and needed some film for it

How does it charge? Does this camera have a power source?

3:05 something I did because my solenoid meter WAS working, but it wasn't accurate. What I did was use a light meter (or digital camera etc) and find what the exposure should be. So let's say I'm pointing at a tree and I'm using 400 speed film in the Minox (which has a fixed aperture of 3.5). Let's say my digital camera reads that tree for 500th of a second at f/3.5, 400 iso. I now don't worry about setting the Minox to 400 ASA but only to make sure that when I aim it at the tree, the needle on the minox is reading 1/500th of a second. Neat little trick. (I haven't developed a roll yet since I did that trick LOL... so take it with a grain of salt. Can't see why it wouldn't work though. Unless the solenoid fails in an exponential way, where maybe super intense light or super low light will still be out of wack?? who knows. I think it's better than just setting it to the ASA though, unless you know your solenoid meter is working accurately).

I just found a minox b camera in my dad's stuff. Did you ever post the video where you took pix? Who develops the film for this camera?

I did not do the other video, maybe this spring. You can get the film developed at Blue Moon Camera and Machine (bluemooncamera.com). They even sell film.

    Does the counter set automatically?

I believe it does. The manual doesn’t even mention the counter when loading film. Probably why I forgot to mention it in the video. Thanks for the comment.

@@joeheptn I ended up just clicking it 50 times until it was close.

You have to advance the camera with no film loaded until the red spot is opposite the index mark. No need to release the shutter each time when doing this. The dial then counts upwards the number of frames taken.

@@richardbrown1189 Thanks for the advice. I have only shot 1 and half rolls through mine - still learning about it and info like this is good to know.

Thanks for this! I recently acquired my late grandfathers Minox and am excited to use it.

Invented by an Estonian, first made in Latvia, later in Germany. I think Leica own them now.
