  • Lasers are a great way to address skin texture or discoloration concerns like dark spots, rosacea, and melasma. It can also be a great way to treat wrinkles of the face.
I've been asked whether people of color can get laser treatments. In short the answer is Yes! But there is a catch... very dark skin tones should still avoid laser treatments... but these individuals usually don't need the benefits of a laser anyway!
Other more olive and brown skin tones are able to get CERTAIN lasers. The main concern with getting lasers with darker skin tones is the risk of developing hyperpigmentation (dark coloring/scarring) of the skin. Ablative lasers are the types people of color should avoid or be very cautious with (like CO2 lasers).
You should definitely speak to a laser specialist before undergoing any laser treatment, but even moreso if you have a darker skin tone.
