I don’t care about rotation. I don’t pay money to go to games and watch average performances because there had to be rotation. The euros looked bad to watch because most teams had tired legs.

I totally agree. You have a squad to compete. If you fall short because you rested Rodri for a different player, then so be it. It's a luxury to be in all these competitions for good players and for better teams. Many professional ballers don't get to take part in this luxury.
Like Jordan said: if you only want to play a certain number of games, get it in writing in your contract. They shear arrogance to even suggest 'strike action' is off the scale.

The expectation on the elite players is ridiculous. They are getting to the point where there are too many games and not enough rest for them. That being said a) their career is extremely short
b) one of the huge reasons the clubs are enticed into these money making extras is because the wages are way too high
c) if the players want to reduce the commitments they have to acknowledge that wages would have to match it

@@spitmatic you realise they train for about 2 - 3 hours a day on average 4-5 days a week and have asistants, private chefs, chauffers and cleaners. They dont have to cook, clean, take kids to school do the ironing, sort paying their bills and should they get ill yhey have access to the bestnmedical care in the world......they are so privalidged its unreal...when they turn into cry babies becuase their tired...especially a goalkeeper do me a favour!

1. no player plays 70-80 games and if they do that Is down to bad management and squad depth no one else.

@@Secret19977It’s not about reducing the number of games as they are at the moment, rather adding more. FIFA wants to expand world club championship. They are greedy/not satisfied with World Cup money since it’s once every 4 years - they want more and more…money regularly. UEFA already expanded Champions League and you can tell from Match Day 1 games some teams shouldn’t be in it - who wants 7-0 score-lines? We watch basketball for high scores!

Then factor in they play 82 games in the regular season with a considerable amount of long distance travel mixed in. My point is they get a break. Hell, American football (as much as I dislike it) is far more brutal even though they play fewer games and has a long offseason. Maybe UEFA should look at compressing the schedule a bit more. Play the same number of games but over a shorter period so there’s a break?

There is a simple solution. Force clubs to cap each player to a maximum 45-50 games per season which force all clubs to use squad rotation. Allow for bigger squad sizes and give each player an option of 7-10 days UNPAID LEAVE during the season but like every profession the leave will need to be approved. Problem solved.
Someone needs to ask Rodri what about players who are barely getting minutes? And give him example of Philip his teammate 2 yeras back 😂
If players want to play less games, the clubs should grant their wishes, contracts should be renegotiated taking less games played into account, less productivity less money, they could also play for clubs that historically play less fixtures, taking major pay cuts in the bargain, but they won't, they want to earn the same yet give less back.

Considering the UK labour law is a max 48hr week averaged over 17 weeks, the 60 hour week you claim would be a specific conscious decision made above and beyond the "rules" by those work those hours. Crucially though, everyone is protected from having to work that load as a condition of employment.
If you can back up your assertion, then studies to determine the health effects of that behavior, and to determine how close the to physical effort of an elite footballer that is before you can even begin to compare.
Also, money doesn't cure all, so renumeration comparisons don't matter.
Ask yourself, would you rather money or your health,. Only a right fool says money.

It's astonishing to me that footballers at the very top earning 50,000 to 400,000 a week complain about playing football twice a week. Try working in a heavy lifting factory warehouse job being paid £400 a week for years on end. Most of these footballers are retire aged 35-38 millionaires doing nothing but enjoying life. They don't live in the real world or worked a proper job in their lives.

Different sport same scenario. When Dennis Rodman needed time off when playing for the bulls in the 90's. He talk with coach and they agreed to give him 2 weeks off in the middle of the season. When he came back he was able to compete at the level he needed to for the finals. Rodri is good enough to have special treatment. I agree with Simon.
And remember on the other hand you had cr7. Asking to play every game possible and he compete at the same level Rodri does not speak for everyone.
I just wish people spoke about cutting down international football instead of club football so then the players could have the rest they want. Clubs pay their wages, transfer fees, medical bills, invest millions upon millions investing in players future while international clubs just lap it up and take all the benefits and none of the draw back. They do play too many games, because they get very little rest due to internationals.

It’s simple. If you wanna play less football (doing your job) then fair enough. What that means for us is, we don’t get paid as much. So as long as Rodri is willing to take a pay cut, shouldn’t be an issue then

1. It doesn't matter that you're not a top player yet.. your ambition to get to the top is married with your wish for top to have acceptable conditions.
2. To argue that players won't agree to lower wages if the game numbers decrease contradicts the opposing of players wanting something when game numbers increase.

I do agree there are too many games. Not because I sympathise with the physical wellbeing of players, but because there are too many boring, pointless games that hold no merit. We don't need a european competition for every position in the league, we don't need two domestic cup competitions, we don't need a third international tournament in the nations league.

If players want to continue with this crusade the only end result I foresee is some nonsense like load management like what they have in American sports where half of the season is meaningless cause players can sit out whenever they want. Which leads to them not winning as many games and trophies as they could. And you can say that they can rotate... But there is only one rodri. Not playing him can also lead to city losing trophies anyway.

Was looking at my roofer this afternoon and just envied his life. He gets to work outside in 100 degrees F, atleast 8hours a day, 6days a week, zero injury risk, zero burnout risk, strong mental health, gets to live in the very best house and drives the very best cars and able to afford vacation anywhere in the world.
