Old-school YuGiOh was cool to me because of the fact that most people I would duel with as a kid had different "ace cards". There were no two decks that had the same strongest monster, if that makes any sense.

since megarock dragon's effect specifies "original atk and def" i think ectoplasmer would've worked the way rhyme thought it would (you can also tell based on the color of the card's stats -- white numbers means that's considered its original stats iirc)

been running a yubel sacred beast deck which has been fun kinda a mix of old and modern I can end in 2 turns or 20 its been very fun especially using yubel

My problem with master duel is that I come across the same 3 decks all the time. Last night I did about 15 duels and all but 4 were either sword soul, despia or runic. I prefer old school over modern but enjoy both. I just hate that everyone and their mother copy paste the same decks.
Fun story: When I started playing yugioh a year ago, my friend had a pile of cards he let me go through so I can build my first deck, including a lot of the older structure deck cards. I realize now that I accidentally ended up putting together nearly all the same cards that were in the wind structure, and is the sole reason why I play Harpies as my main deck.

Harpy is surprisingly decent as far as modern support goes Harpy Harpist + Harpy Dragon Fiersome Fire Blast goes into Galaxy Tomohawk which gets you a Simorgh and a Mist Valley Apex Avian infinite negate setup Plus their trap lets you stop your opponent from any monster effects for a turn (only downside is that Floo can use it too and their searching is a mixed bag)
These decks need a tcg reload. The fire kings got one, so there's no real reason these two couldn't. A sphinx based structure deck (ditch Exxod, cause he makes literally no sense.) would be awesome and the wind one could be rebranded as a character deck, like a Mai valentine structure deck. Plus they could then work as hybrids with other more modern strategies and archtypes; for example the earth one could work well with labrynth given its number of normal trap cards.
I played a grindy game of striker/runick vs witchcrafters, went 11 or so turns and i lost but was such a fun match plus if i played better i definitely win, came down to the wire
