See how the officers from Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre caught up with the culprits and prevented a donation scam from taking place. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth also advises the public on how they can avoid being victims of such scams.

Happened to my husband today while he was at home working. This young girl was ringing our door bell none stop and asked for a donation, he didn't want to give money but gave a $5 and she said "no less than $10". He had a $10 but didn't want to give more so he just said no money lol and she left. Any charity saying donations can't be less than $10 is a scam, if you're desperate enough to need donations, any amount will help you.
I think this still exist. Last time, i was a student at NUS and there are people that seemed to do the same thing outside kent ridge as the scammer. (cannot donate less than 10 dollars)
I've seen such "charity scammers" while I was eating lunch, just before checking in to Marina Bay Sands.
Abit dissapointed with the government for not taking action against marketing companies that are misusing charity and donations to get money for themselves..
It is worse if marketing companies is cheating other person's money from withdrawing person's money..

Wah this kinda scams r a norm in Malaysia. Nobody really donate except tourists or certain naive people. Nobody bother reporting or police also dont bother catching these kinda ppl because this kinda issue seems never ending and like hard to catch the main culprit. Most ppl tat do these r usually homeless, beggars or drug addicts/alcoholics. It became like their part time job d at kl.
As long as these people never say they are collecting money for charity then no crime is committed. If they sold something just for their own survival / earn a living then let them be. I would rather help individuals on the street who sold key chains, tissue paper and other goods they peddled. I will never ever donate my money to any charities or organizations. Because most of the time, the collected money were never given to the poor children or the needy people but instead the charities and organizations will embezzle the money to upgrade their Church Sound System and Visuals, Building's Lighting, Pay Bonuses to Management Employees. This is the hidden truth that most donation bodies were trying to hide.
When I was walking around Seri Petaling, a few young kids from "UNICEF" who were "collecting donations for kids in Bangladesh" approached me for donations.. I can speak Bangla and so I pretended to be a person from Dhaka and asked them "more details".. I don't know what the girl blabbered in Chinese but all of them ran away... I really wanted to help them poor kids in Bangladesh 🤣😅

Not to mention religious based charities that use a lot of rhetoric and scripture to guilt people to donate. Either make it easier for genuine charities to operate or ban it altogether.
In Malaysia, those scammers can't be sentenced because they have political influence
I’m baffled sometimes how Singapore donates millions to other countries but own country still asking for donations.

hmm i didnt know everyone raising the fund need to carry the permit to collect fund door to door or in public, cos i am pretty sure last time when i was still in jc they have this charity event for all the j1 students to collect fund for charity at a few mrt station iirc but i wasnt given a license or anything like that, all we get is a tshirt for the event .......i was from one of the top public jc in singapore and this is a school event so i kind of just assume everything was in order even though i wasnt issue any license or anything like that

Ha ha, these ignorant teen didn’t have any imagination techniques by asking them money themselves, intimidating them made me feel like they’re gangsters and not even a qualified charity. They clearly act like gangster than the real charity organisations should act.

They use kids as a front cos ppl see kids will think it’s legitimate. And like what’s mentioned by one of complainants--the kids were standing there for long hours & they felt bad for them so they donated.
Little did they know this is just like syndicates where kids are used to ‘beg’ money and do most of the hard work and have to give up half of their $.
The kids can always report less money being collected so they pocket more for themselves 🤣🤣.
