      @@MerciaMoto Yes I agree, Dave. The Euro tunnel was a great way to get to Europe as the road journey from the midlands wasn't excessive. My experiences of ferries isn't really very pleasant - uncomfortable and long.
      Eurostar apart from the queuing and feeling that I was being treated like an unwanted guest at check in etc wasn't the best either but your ride on , ride off appeared to be almost a pleasure!
      A great summing up of what must be a wonderful experience for both of you to look back on. I certainly enjoyed it! Thank you both.

    A great job listing all of the costings for this trip Dave, I'm sure it will prove very useful to many people planning something similar.
    I had no idea what the channel shuttle costs these days, for instance and it was also good to know what the fuel, hotel and toll costs were.
    A very thorough job, very well presented. Congratulations on a great video to round off the series.

    • @MerciaMoto
      @MerciaMoto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nikkij1618 Hi Nikki thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I used the Garmin XT satnav. I tried to plan the passes rides before we went, however as the passes were closed it wouldn’t let me create routes that incorporated the passes which was a bit of a pain, I even tried to plan them on google maps but again due to the passes being closed it wouldn’t route for them. I planned the Routes for our first full day in the Alps when we visited Beatenberg and Grindelwald using the Beeline App and Satnav. On the Thursday (1st June) Grimsel, Furka and Nufenen passes opened so I was able to plot routes using the Garmin. Susten pass didn’t fully open whilst we were there so we were only able to partially ride the pass, it was probably the most beautiful of the passes we rode. I have a folding map of Switzerland which I had used to get a feel for the geography and this really helped when it came to plugging the routes into the Satnav whilst we were there. Hope I’ve answered your question? 😬👍🏻

    Interesting to understand your costs, £1300 is not bad for such a wonderful trip. My trip cost about £2k for a 13 day break, the ferry was way more expensive than Euro tunnel and I was solo so had full cost of hotels. However, the only toll I had was the vignette. Nice wrap up for the tour.

    I did a 21 day tour with 17 days in Europe this year and spent around £2000 on accomodation, tunnel and ferry back. I didn't take a note of petrol costs though.. In France I used the motorways and especially the Peage as little as possible using more enjoyable country roads. In Switzerland I never bought the Vignette as there was never any need to use the motorway with so many good non toll roads, I did prepurchase an online Vignette for Austria as I needed to use their motorway on one day on route to Switzerland,. When staying more than one night in one place I booked an apartment, 4 nights in Altmunster and 5 nights in Meiringen, ended up cheaper than a hotel and I could buy food at the supermarket and cook for myself, saved the high costs of eating out in Switzerland. I noticed you didn't mention holiday insurance, this can be quite expensive as you often have to pay extra if you ride a bike over 125cc, I think I was around £250 but this did give £1m medical cover and covered transport home if the bike broke down, did also have AA recovery to recover the bike to the UK.
