Thank you Ron Howard for being so doing such an unbelievably wonderful job! You were by far the best child actor ever. No one has even been close! The show is a joy to watch again and again, for many reasons including the one your mentioned regarding Opies admiration and respect for his father!
The last thing he said was "...it was a simple, straight-forward kind of truthfulness." That is so perfectly well said you just cannot add anything to it. The Andy Griffith Show taught me a lot of important lessons when I was a little kid....it still does now.
As I understand Ron's situation, it was having Rance Howard for a father, and Andy Griffith as an early father figure, that made all the difference in his turning out okay, whereas other child actors and performers have more often treated as little more than cash cows for their parents to make money from. Rance Howard wasn't a typical Hollywood stage parent. Letting his kids be normal kids was more important to him than having their careers be a source of income. Andy apparently felt the same.
I grew up on the Andy Griffith show The Lone Ranger show and several others like them. I'm 65 and have lived a good life, Thanks Andy, Ron and all the good that T.V. has to offer.
My favorite episode is when his sling shot hit the bird in the tree and killed it. His sensitivity was so natural, and he was so heart broken. He was and still is soooo talented.
I aslo like the episodes when Ron's younger brother, Clint, appeared as Leon. He was so cute in his cowboy outfit and could be funny without saying a word.

Even though I've watched the first season over and over all summer and fall, I never get tired of it. Ronny is very very talented at such a tender age.
Very few child actors stay successful as adults, Ron Howard is that exception, whether he is known as opie, Ritchie Cunningham, or more currently as a great director shows that he is truly respected as an adult unlike some of the others who have gone to less successful lives after the show is over. Love to see him direct several more movies in time.
I really enjoy watching episodes from every season of "The Andy Griffith Show" but the most special ones to me are from the first 2 years, when "Opie" was so little. Ron Howard was such a natural for the part and still makes me laugh everytime I watch a show. (Remember "Opie's Charity" or "The New Housekeeper"?)
Funny, never missed this show when I was young, long, long ago, but for some reason the one that stands out in my memory is when as a sub plot Opie was making tracks with an elephant foot umbrella stand and Barney thought an elephant was loose in Mayberry. Lord knows what makes episodes stick in one's mind.
WTF does this interview have to do with politics? Ron Howard is an all American guy, a great guy. Just because his politics are different than yours doesn't make him a communist. Grow up!!!
I always loved watching the Andy Griffith Show, and it's too bad that Opie became a rich successful Communist. Not that there's anything wrong with being rich and successful.
