Building a $100k dividend portfolio is one of the toughest dividend investing milestones, which begs a couple of questions: Why is the first $100k so difficult to get to, and how long does it take to get there? We’ll try to answer both of those questions in this video, and we'll approach it from the viewpoint of a brand new dividend investor.
The ideas and opinions presented in this video are meant for informational and entertainment purposes only, are not intended to serve as a recommendation to buy or sell any security in any account, and are not an offer or sale of a security. They are also not research reports and are not intended to serve as the basis for any investment decision.

That's true it is really depends on how much you deposit, and what you start your account with; I started my account with 25k and a $1500 ever month, it took me 2 to 3 and a half years to hit six figures, once I left Lowes I rolled my 401k over it was 29k with my six figure stock I went up to 120k

Assuming you're investing at the same rate, $100k is 33% of the way to 1 million while $300k is the halfway point in term of timeframe.

I know a lot of people focus on the total amount of their portfolio, but higher capital appreciation actually hurts a dividend growth portfolio. lower capital appreciation is a better goal for dividend growth.

Your first $100k is the $100k you should see the least. Set up an automatic investment fund day 1 you enter the “real world”, and then focus on getting REALLY good at something valuable for the next 5-10 years. Then, come back and say “hi” to your portfolio, and look at how it’s grown. That’s when investing starts to get fun :)

Hey Ryan I don’t know if you remember me. But I had a portfolio value of 8.6k (18yrs). You rated my portfolio in one of your videos. Since then I have sold a good portion of my positions and have bought options calls. As of now I have roughly doubled my portfolio. I’m gonna be cautious and not use all money to buy calls/puts. My strategy is gain money and then buy/create my portfolio. That’s the quickest way I’m possibly going to be able to get to $100,000 mark.

Staying consistent with your contributions, taking advantage of red and down trends (bear markets) will also help a lot. If you're DCAing into some ETFS, stocks, but you're able to amp up those contributions when things are down/bear market/red, I could see folks shaving years off especially over the long term. Kind of took a different approach, but we all get to our goals in various ways. One of the best decisions we ever made was to go 100% debt free and own our home outright, following some of Dave Ramsey's advice. Not having debt allowed those funds go towards investing instead. Went with some of Robert Kiyosaki's recommendations on owning physical Gold & Silver, though Dave is no fan of precious metals. Personally don't fully trust having all our funds stored digitally. Now, we're putting funds towards Treasuries and equities, thought I just can't help myself from buying Gold on occasion.
