What an absolutely insane collection! I have a collection of DVD/Blu/4k, of around 2,500 titles. I've got years of content to rely on and watch, discover directors and films constantly. I use streaming rentals to keep up to date on new releases!
My only question is that if this collection was amassed mostly in 4 years how many of these have you watched? Are you a movie buff? Do you have a nice set up to view and hear all of these. What if you move? What is there’s a fire or something? Not being a jerk I am genuinely interested in the general “why” of the collection.
Great great video Jamie, loved it. I'm 49 and i started collecting Blurays and DVD's last summer, so far i have about 570 blurays and 340 dvd's and i have spent about 1200€ on them. Most of the films i've bought were used on fleamarkets, private sellers and on ebay. Now, about the space, i got a lot of 7mm cases for bluray's and dvd's, had to cut the cover a little bit so they fit it the 7mm case, but i have absolute no problem with that (maybe a little on one film where i had to cut 2mm of Olga Kurylenko's ass on the back cover). Now there is a bit more space for the films that i will buy in the future.
Due to space restrictions I have to be really picky with my movie pick ups P.S I don't collect movies as a investment I collect them because I enjoy watching them
That’s the best way to do it, collect it because you love the movie, that way the collection is more meaningful to you, that’s what it’s about really, the personal experience
,ive spent thousands too on my cd and record collection, and blue ray etc,its never about the money. some records i just have to have and paid hundreds for ,Nice collection bro.
Nice collection bro. I don’t dare count how much I have spent on my collection. lol I’ve been collecting since 2002. My collection stands at 1,689 dvd 5,460 Blu-rays 294 4ks
Nice, yeah I’ve been collecting since probably 2005, but I made a HUGE mistake in maybe around 2016 when I started really collecting digitally and threw out the covers, kept the disks in binders… only later did I find out how bad a mistake I had made
@@JamieToomeyPresents Can you help me understand further about keeping discs in their original packages? I had a sneaky suspicion about getting rid of them. If nothing else in life people always seem to change their minds about things in the future about ANYTHING and didn't want to find my self making a mistake there.
I agree it's worth having a Multi region Blu Ray player for those Blu Ray's that don't get a local release here in Australia as the wife wanted Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2 on Blu ray and it didn't get a local Blu ray release so I had to import it from Amazon US via Amazon Au I have the Oppo 203 4K player with a plug in chip so i can change regions via the remote
I have Panasonic UB820, it does play most Blu-rays, there’s a secret way to get around the region blocking, I also have Laser player from Big W as another region free option
Awesome collection man! I love physical media for their uncompressed audio formats. For home theater systems Blu ray is the only way to take advantage of premium audio setups. I haven't looked at your other videos yet, but hoping you have a theater room tour! I'd like to see what TV you use and audio setup you have to take advantage of that massive collection 👌
Very interesting, I love 4k I have getting upwards to 1,500 4ks now over 60 Kino 4ks, my whole collection inc blurays is about 4,000 now, I have upwards to 800 Criterions my favourite label, I feel the 4k market is over saturated now and I’m starting to pull back as I have many of these films on bluray and it be too expensive to upgrade I have my own channel dedicated to Criterion letstalkcriterion and I’m the Uk.
Sometimes I cringe to think what I’ve spent. In the end it’s a hobby and for enjoyment though so I’m not upset about it. I’ll gladly trade some money for things that make me happy.
Absolutely, it’s daunting to look at the overall price for what has been spent, but it’s a hobby and also it helps with other things, like in 2020 when the world shut down, it did help for me
Great video man, remember to keep your collection out of direct sunlight and moisture cause discs do rot over time. I do the same thing you do with games, I feel like collecting and experiencing things in their true form is always a good way to disconnect from the extremely connected world we are in. But nothing feels worse that having your media or consoles rot away. As great as it feels to collect, the reality is that they are just pieces of plastic with parts on the inside. Nothing is forever
I will say this - impressive collection! With that being said, because you’re paying a middle man to import all of your movies from the United States, you’re paying a ridiculous amount for your titles from what it seems. When I was an actor in Los Angeles I used to go to Amoeba after classes or auditions to look around. I could leave that place with a stack of a dozen blu ray’s for $50. They would often be used but in pristine condition. Physical media is so important in so many ways, and I love having obscure titles or films that I feel really represent my taste. I’m trying to also make sure that I have digital copies to backup my physical media. My goal has been to get to the point where (if I felt like it) I could get rid of all the streamers and be able to watch whatever the hell I want lol
My bill for buying would be in the ballpark of $80,000 to $90,000 since 2010,spent around 3,000 in the last month on imports from the usa and Uk.Still buying on those ...all 4k's.
That’s crazy you will get $1 for trade in per item if your lucky, obviously their will be some heavy hitters but I would recommend just hold it all, you love it and it’s your passion
Interesting topic! As far as I can tell, I basically started with about 500 titles up until 2016, and since then it's grown to just under 3,000. It's hard to pass up the $1 dvds, which the majority of the collection is. But, it's really become a curated collection, and the process has really taught me a lot about what I want to collect and how to best organize things. Although I didn't track the spending, I'm gonna say I probably spent 5-6K over the last 8 years. I don't forsee adding too much more, as I'm approaching having just about everything "needed" but its still going to be a process of upgrading a few things to blue ray, and consolidating things when I can. I desperately need one more large wall shelf because I'd love to get the whole collection in view and accessible. I'm fairly close to being able to say that I've watched everything I have - my estimate is 15-20% unwatched, and this year I'm mainly concentrating on getting that done.
Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of all my purchases or maybe it's great that I didn't because I'm not sure I want to know. 😁 I currently have the following: 3,301 Blu-rays 2,026 DVDs 975 4K UHD 216 3D Blu-rays Total is 6,518
I just found your channel. Yeah wow great collection! I enjoy your content and how passionate you are about the hobby of owning a physical media. I have 721 movies Blu-ray and 4K I like that I can watch it anytime and not rely on digital streaming servers and if you have a good Home Theatre system who needs to go to the cinema
Do you have to worry about disk rot? How do you ensure that these discs will last if you were to pass on your collection? What's neat about collecting BluRay is that the definition will be way higher than what you're able to get for free online.
Its not just about the money but it is relevant to consider whether you have time to watch them all or are most of them just sitting on your shelves. The value of the discs will depreciate. DVDs used to cost like $20 but are now worth @$2 or less. Therefore you will lose out if you buy too many and don't watch them.
Here in the United States, I go to thrift shops for most of my collection and never pay more than $5.00. I have a wish list for my must haves. I also have a list in alpha order on my notes of what I currently own. I’m nowhere near your collection. I’m almost at 1000. I would definitely pay premium price for movies that are hard to find or must haves. I enjoyed your video.
I have the Dragon Boxes, I bought them when they were first released for $34.99 a piece. btw do you collect a lot of anime, also do you think you’ll ever collect Japanese manga, I’m currently considering collecting Manga, I’ve already bought some Dragon Ball manga (I’ve been watching a lot of manga collection videos).
I just thrift 99% of mine or look for amazon deals/sales. I spend about 50.00 a month maybe between movies and cds. I am also not all that fussy. I am happy to at least have a film regardless of dvd/blu/4k . If I see a bluray/4k of a film I super love for a good deal then sure I will upgrade but it rarely matters and I am finding blurays for 1.00 most places now. Music cds for my taste are much harder to find for cheap.
I have been collecting movies since late 2022 and by now I own 269 movies on Bluray where 268 are normal HD BluRays and 1 is 4k. I'm not really a Special Edition type of collector so I only go for the standard Keep Cases but I also only collect new copies since I don't really put trust in buying used ones. Only 3 Of my movies are Steelbooks (because I couldn't obtain them as normal Keep Cases at the time of purchase) and one is a Digibook. I also have 6 TV Series' so far. For me the especially important categories of my collection are Found Footage and Asian Movies when it comes to collecting. It's just unfortunate that Found Footage has alot of OOP titles here that I still have to import and that Asian Movies are often very expensive xD. My most expensive movie is my only 4k copy which is Akira that cost me 37€ xD. I bought it because I was excited about obtaining the 35th Anniversary Edition of its manga for a very good price so I bought it extra as kind of a celebration xD. I have no idea what I spent on my collection so far but if I had to guess, anywhere between 2000-2500€. Was one of the best decisions I've ever made and I don't regret spending the money one bit. Great video btw!
4000 films, if you watch 1 per day would take 11 years give or take to go through once. If collection keeps growing and you re watch some more than once or sometimes go to the cinema, or get fatigued. The collection would take 20 years to watch once. I am very selective and I have decided on only owning 1000 films in my life. I have been collecting since 1995 and don't spend more than £500 British pounds per year on this hobby. Although I do collect vinyl records and CDs too.
I can hear someone saying "You could have bought a nice new car!" But it sure as heck wouldn't bring as much enjoyment as this fella's collection will to him. Unless of course you're a car collector. heh Seriously though, brilliant collection.
hmm no im hearing.. a house deposit, not a car. im also a huge collector but I was focused to buy a house first before i went nuts.. im very grateful for it now.. house is almost paid off and im 42.

I thought The Octagon was terrible, very boring film, one of Chucks worst. What made you start tracking cost? Do you track other types of spending? I don't get why someone would put so much effort into the cost tracking, feels like a lot of extra work for a recreational hobby.
It's all about priorities. Some people spend a lot more on traveling, clothes, or electronics. As long as it makes you happy, no judgement here.
Exactly, there’s lots of stuff to collect, it’s all about personal preference, and I love it 😊
