The concept of the music video is suppose to mirror the concept of the movie the song is for. There's a movie coming out next month called Love, Simon. And its pretty much a movie about a secret admirer of sorts. So the idea is that Normani puts on "dance shows" in the hotel room of the hotel Khalid works in as a valet and he's the admirer whose grown to enjoy them. So it becomes a regular thing that they do, all while not knowing who the other is personally. That's why Normani walks straight past Khalid when he opens the door of her car. She doesnt know its him and he also doesnt know its her.
I thought she walked past him without acknowledging him because he's just a valet and she's an important person so they don't want people to see them being intimate with each other not that they didn't recognize each other. Although, this is an interest interpretation.
She does know its it's him they were texting his name had hearts in it
