    One thing I've noticed about tanks is they are longer than they are wide and their center of mass is generally set between the upper travel of the tracks. Something to consider for a potential future attempt.

    For a snowtank you need wide Tracks and gaps between each link
    I also recommend to Lock at Tracks from Snowcats

    I wonder if some sort of suspension would have helped with the track breakage? In all fairness, tracks are also the most failure-prone and maintenance-intensive part of real tanks.

    Just a few improvement ideas - enlongate your tank and make it thinner.
    It means redesigning your gear box, but this will make working over terrain alot easier... I'm sure lining the gearbox with the skirt will be pretty compact and look very nice.
    Also try to limit how many items you have underneath the tank. With an elongated body you should be able to support a platform about 2/3rds of the way up the wheel and encase everything to protect it but also add a bit of weight to give it better traction... Just try not to make it too tall... Slim is always better.
    Perhaps putting both motors back to back on the rear of the tank and an encased lateral gearbox alongside the tank treads would be best.

    What you call siudeskirt is not present on tanks.
    As tanks have suspension holding their wheels, they are not rigidly attached to the chassis of the tank.

  • @Garlic_Doggo
    @Garlic_Doggo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One improvement would be to make the gearbox in such a way that you don't need the printed chains, instead use gears to transmit torque to the tracks. Second would be to make the tracks wider as said by somebody in the comments. And to improve stability (a little bit maybe cuz it's still plastic after all) is to make the track sprockets heavier, instead of attaching extra weight to the body itself. But in the end this is still good because I know how time consuming and mental consuming stuff like this can get.

    V2 ..next

  • @Panthera_Leo_
    @Panthera_Leo_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the V2, tank designers figured out that the tank should be about 2 to 1.75 times longer than the width of the vehicle. The more wide the tank is, the easier it is to turn. But less stable it is, both in the forward direction (flipping end over end like yours) and less stable in the yaw direction (the vehicle would tend to wander to one side or the other while trying to drive in a straight line). If you make it more narrow, there's better grip with the ground and theoretically better speed, but it will turn like a pig.

    The lubrication should be on teeth itself, for shafts you should use bearings. Also please don't hit the bearings with hammer like this. Use rubber mallet with larger surface area or some kind of block. You are going to fuck up those bearings sooner or later.

      @@Qwarzz no idea, he has more experience with mechanical printed gears, and although i bet their not the best representation of what he can do, i do have a lot of experience in designing wacky vehicles. the su-5-1 has very thin tracks maybe best use another as a template.

    @03:00 That Layer Line orientation looks _horrible_ for what you're using the part for... With the Screws acting as reinforcing Pins anyway you'd have fared better 3D printing them standing upright so each layer would have formed a continuous loop around both screws in each link - If you then add some sacrificial 45° geometry below the overhangs acting as built-in support you could have 3D printed them without Slicer generated Support and would have had an easier time snipping those built-in Supports away with sharp Side Cutters. Also print time is highly Printer specific.
    @04:00 Side Skirts are more of a protection thing - Not a structural part like in your tank so a more appropriate description would either be a Running Gear Assembly or Running Gear Pod akin to how the *Milrem **_THeMIS_* System works - Which I'm _highly_ suspecting to be the inspiration for this project 🤔
    @06:10 I don't want to _split_ hairs but man... I think those 3D printed Parts look like they would have benefitted from either being made out of wood like the top or 3D printed flat 😏
    @06:31 A bit more complicated but doing a tank with just one Motor driving both the actual driving axles _and_ an input shaft for a differential steering gearbox controlled by a Servo switching it either into either one or the other direction via Slip Rings would also be possible 😁
