    Did you play Sacred games before, or this is your first time hearing about them?
    I really need to play Sacred 1, just to see why a lot of people think it's a better game.
    By the way, I didn't even want to mention Sacred 3, because it basically ruined the series.

      played both. Sacred 1 had a very actice MP community, they even did horse races with those mounts, Lol.
      It's easy to see why many people didn't like Sacred 2 just as much because the developers completely went nuts with the content about aliens and robots and with all that subsystems.
      I always wanted to love S1 and S2 but you fleshed out the biggest drawback: The combat gameplay is absolute garbage. Too bad the developers never managed to get it right.

      Only thing I liked in Sacred 3 was the story. But the story definitely didn't hold the weight of the 3rd one because it barely had any gameplay that actually felt playable and interesting. It felt extremely second thought.

    Community patch is great. Darkmatters community put a lot of effort and love into it and it shows. The game runs smoother, as some people mentioned before several bugs got fixed including some major ones like magic staff + multihit combination hitting enemies offscreen in a very large area. Some useless spells got buffed to the point of being considerable but not op (Dragon Mage's transform spells for example). Some cut content was added including willpower based weapons, bosses etc. Some interesting new sets added for all the classes. And on top of it the whole gameplay and progression system remains mostly the same as in core game, which I'm a big fan of. So yeah if you just discovered Sacred 2 and want to give it a shot I'd recommend you install the latest community patch as well.

    randomly thought of this for the first time in over a decade and wow talk about nostalgia hit. I still remember the exact day my mom brought me the 360 game on a motorcycle when i was living with my dad. I spent quite a bit of time playing sacred 2 with one of my best childhood friends who i always gamed with for many of years but i havent heard from in about 10yrs. After living over an hour away and him switching to pc main from console plus having a long term gf and a kid and me getting in a long relationship plus getting hooked on pills n other life stuff kinda made us drift apart i guess idk. This made me want to get in contact with him somehow tomorrow. I used to main inquisitor amd he mained serphim and i also remember doing alot of the poison/plague spread glitch thing that posions a ton of enemies while running around and you get tons of xp it was great lol

    German rpgs. Sacred, Gothic, Drakensang. Have a charm all their own. Only a handful of American rpgs could stand with them in the Golden Age. Morrowind, Diablo 1, Infinity Games, Neverwinter 2. Respect your opinion of course, but personally gotta disagree on the melee. Chopping someone up close range really feels good to me in these games. I guess that signature German jank isnt for everyone. But the combat in Gothic, Sacred etc is simple and satisfying to me and only adds to the charm

    If Sacred 2 can be considered underrated, Sacred 1 could be even more so because it is older and more contemporary to the firmly established Diablo 2. The game was amazing, I played it since launch and every now and then I install it and create a different character. Even if I know the world like the palm of my hand, it doesn't lose its charm.
    The thing about the sequel though is that, although it feels like a vast improvement and in some aspects it objectively is (for instance, there's a specific class mount for every character that allows you to cast your ordinary abilities while riding it), the setting shifts a bit. Sci-fi elements such as all the T-Energy related stuff and the Temple Guardian/Seraphim specific gear look a bit out of place for my taste, when the first game was pure, raw fantasy. The Seraphim of the prequel wielded actual holy magic instead of a blaster, and when you found something remotely sci-fi in the prequel it was meant like an easter egg, to set a comparison. Sacred 1 also had a more serious vibe to it, even if there were also intentionally funny sidequests and countless gravestones with silly messages that are pretty much a staple for the series. From the top of my head, I can remember that one quest that sent you to an island called Mal-Orc-A (like an island from Spain) and made you deal with unruly orcs that were harrasing tourists while sunbathing on the beach, and of course you were rewarded with your very own sunglasses.
    All in all though? It doesn't detract from the whole experience and there is much to be enjoyed in Sacred 2. Give it a go and do so with Sacred 1 as well, if you're looking for a new ARPG! Chances are you'll end up sinking a decent amount of hours into it at the very least.
    Don't play Sacred 3 though.

    • @MsVector666
      @MsVector666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah truly, Sci-fi stuff and a lot more focus on humor is what I dont like in sacred 2. Sacred 1 was an ideal blend of humor and seriousness

    • @CornPop309
      @CornPop309 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the sci fi twist makes it more unique and a bold choice from the developers rather than the safe usual medieval setting with magic.. devs nowadays are to scared to do things out of the ordinary or what they want so they make their predictable money n reviews.
      one or some of them was most likely really passionate about it and they put it in. I didn't play sacred 1 though so just my 2 cents.

    • @yammoto148
      @yammoto148 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every game and their mother was doing fantasy, to have a truly sci-fi oriented ARPG would have been amazing. Sacred 2 was pretty bold for doing this and made it not generic, unlike Sacred 1.

    Cool, you covered one of my favorite games of all time, albeit two years ago! The game expands as you play. There's a real sense of progression. Early on it might take a while to kill an enemy, but as you level up the combat arts you can start nuking large groups of enemies. Also, each class has a custom mount, which you get about a third of the way through the game (or earlier if you know where to go). The shadow warrior rides on this big troll thing, the inquisitor rides a giant spider, the seraphim rides a massive tiger, and so on. This game also shares something with Elder Scrolls Oblivion: hilarious fully voiced randomly generated NPC conversations in towns. There's over 600 side quests and some of them are very elaborate, including some quest chains. For example, there's a lot of undead in the starting land, and there's a multi-stage quest to take down the lich who leads the undead army. There's also a ton of different enemies to fight, including larger size enemies like ogre mages, giant beetles, and dragons. Last but not least, the various areas of the map are varied and very cool. There's an end game crystal area that is very "Color Out of Space", and there's a huge underground volcano lair with dragons and fire elementals.
    (Personally, I like Sacred 2 more than 1. The first game has some cool classes like the vampire, the dwarf engineer, the demon; and it has the same open world style. I just find the 2nd game more fun overall.)

    The first part from 2004 had a fixed camera and thus resolved the transparency and angle problems quite well. Everything was positioned in a way that looked decent or good from the fixed perspective; for example, hill would always increase towards the upper parts of the map. So it didn't feel flat, even though it definitely was.

    Sacred 2 has the best itemization, skill progression and exploration than any other game that exists on planet earth. This is not just my opinion, it is a fact. I have played Sacred 2 for over 2000 hours and have played every action RPG that is out there.
    P.s. - The story sucks and you should be installing the community patch mod if you decide to play because the company went under after the game released with lots of bugs.

    As an interesting detail, Thq Nordic adquired the ip from the sacred franchise some time ago in an interchange of ips with another sub branch of the same company that owns them.
    This means, after so many years of legal paranoia since noone knew who had the ip (one of the most common reasons that prevents the making of remakes of some classic games), we could get a remake coming from Thq Nordic.

      Or a 4th, but i had rather them work in a remake first, so they get a better grasp of how the first 2 sacred games were, before doing another game

    What's different here is that unlike other RPGs you can NOT reset skills..so you must choose carefully what direction you want to go because if you choose shield lore and find that you rather want 2 handed weapons instead then you wasted a skill slot for the rest of the game.

    currently playing sacred2. running a dryad with blowpipe now. game is blazing fast and flawless under ssd. installed cm patch also. adding more content and fixed most bugs and memory leaks.
    litte disagre with pacing. its not fast, its not slow either. it feels slow due to immense landmass you covered with walking. imagine having to walk or riding horse a whole texas state thru every nook and cranny.lmao
    very early gameplay youll do auto attack most of the time. but just lil bit further youll find that using combat art is way faster and satisfying. my lv50 dryad already forgot how to left click (normal attck). just right click enemies on the edge of my screen. most of the died in one or two hits. kinda boring but i choose to be OP lmao.
    best part of it, unlike many rpg game nowadays is that, there are so many different build in one class. with 3 different aspect for each one of them.
    fyi. i also played the first sacred. gladiator is my favorite. gameplay pretty clunky, just like diablo. but nonetheless its perfect open world rpg back then.

    One thing I really liked about this is there was no tethering. You and co-op partners could be on the opposite sides of the map.

    I remember trying this game a long time ago but bounced off it because of the annoying camera and janky gameplay.
    The graphics were amazing for a 2008 game (especilly from that 3D pseudo-isometric perspective).
    You should really play Sacred 1 as it is really good and the 2D graphics hold up really well (unlike 3D games from the time).

    • @SpecShadow
      @SpecShadow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kabelfritz I still laught at the fact that this game took almost decade to develop, was really short and ended with cliffhanger. Then studio fought with Epic (some engine shenaningans) and lost, then closed the doors forever.

    • @kabelfritz
      @kabelfritz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpecShadow well all of that added to the really bad image of the game, which is totally undeserved looking at the game itself. i have never played any other game that merges rpg and action so well.

    This is the one of the best games, EVER! Like World Of WarcrafT, Diablo 2 .. with Shadow Warrior, everything you need to do is: modify '' Demonic Blow '' to: Vehemence - Poisoning - Life Leech ''
    If you use this, you will hit your oponents like '' aoe '' with one single blow, focus on that spec and you will never die in Sacred 2 :D Yeey.. thanks me later. :D

    I just added this game to my collection as I have been thinking of adding it for some time.
    Diablo never really drew me, nor most other ARPGs. However, this looks different, and the open world nature/quest design feels like it might be what I am looking for.
